what are your thoughts on the shoot to win craps? it's the slot machine that has 2 large dice inside a dome and simulates a craps game, except it's slot based.

do you think it has the same house advantage as live table craps?

does it favor the pass player or don't pass player?

They seem to be very popular. I dont think I,ve seen an empty one during "normal" gaming hours. They look a lot of fun, never played but will give it a shot this time.

I have just started learning the game so I enjoy this machine as it is a bit less intimidating than going to a raucous table. It appears to be the same odds on everything else. The only negative that I have in playing the game is hearing the truly annoying female recorded voice telling me to shoot the dice...incredibly irritating. So I just drink more to ease the headache.

Same game as live craps but who would want to give up a live table in exchange for interacting with a computer? :)

I like the concept, as it pays exactly what a real table does, but I would change a couple of things.

First, most places that have it only allow very low odds bets. Double odds suck. The house is not paying a dealer, so give some of those savings back to us players by allowing 10X odds. You would think the casino would encourage play on these machines over, the expensive to run, manned tables. Give us a reason to play it. 10X odds (or 20X) vs 3/4/5 odds would make a difference to some players. 20X odds with $2 minimum line bet? I would give up some comraderie of a real table for those craps conditions.

Second change would be the speed of play. There needs to be a "I'm ready" button. Make your bet, push the "I'm ready" button, and the roll happens. As it is now there is a long wait between rolls. Super annoying when playing alone, but even annoying when the thing is full of players. Of course with more players it would take longer between rolls, but frequently I look around and everyone is just staring at the dice, waiting for the timer to finish.
Again, you would think the casino would want more rolls per hour, so having this feature would benefit them.

One of the reasons I like this game is that I think you can influence the dice some. Don't roll your eyes at me!! :evillaugh It's true. A lot of the times the dice will just pop up, and come down and land the way it was when they went up. No rolling after it lands. When the machine is shaking the dice around. You watch for the moment the dice are configured the way you want, then you hit the button. Up, down. Not always of course, but I think it happens way more than just a random result. The dice don't always configure the way you want before the timer goes off that pops them up automatically. But still, if you can influence the decision only 1% of the time, you are turning the game into an even money opportunity.

I don't bet on any dice I can't hold in my hand.

I haven't actually played this, but this sounds wrong. Aren't there just two states for the dice? One: they've landed and the shaking is over and that's the number for that round. Two: somebody hits the button to shake (or it's automatic) and the shaking begins until the shaking is over and you get the new number.

If there are only these two states, you can't 'wait' until the dice are where you want them. It's either showing the last number or shaking for the next.

Is there some intermediate mode I'm not aware of?

Last visit I could only find machines with 2 x odds. Thats simply not enough to cover your losses. You dont get a fighting chance with odds that small.

When the "roll" begins, the platform shakes and vibrates. This causes the dice to roll around, never leaving the surface of that platform. They are not violently rolling around though. They just lazily roll around.
When you push the "shoot" button, or when the 10(?) second timer goes off, the platform pops up, "shooting" the dice up. Most of the time when they come down they land on the edges of the dice and do some more rolling. Like dice do. But I have seen them go straight up, and then come straight down, and land the same way they went up. I am not arguing the possiblities of that happening. I have seen it happen multiple times.
The goal in pushing the button at the precise time is not to shoot up a flying V so there is less chance of a seven coming up like in precision shooting at a real table. The goal is to shoot them up with the actual point you are going for. Even if one of the die comes straight back down, and you are relying on chance for the outcome of the other, you still have influenced the outcome.
But I have seen it happen on several occassions where both dice go straight up and straight down. More than 1% of the time? I don't know. I doubt it. But I am sure that I am life time up on these things. I would play them more, but it just gets so tedious waiting for the timer to allow the roll. I like to play alone so I can always be the shooter. And the wait seems worse when I don't have anything else to do but wait and wait.

My thoughts on Shoot to Win Craps?

    I think I don't like it.

Sure, there's no reason why house advantage ought to be different than statndard crap table. Can't see any advantage to betting either pass line or don't pass at this game rather than a standard crap table.

Nevertheless, I just don't like it.

The few times that I've tried it the dice seem to only bounce up a couple of inches and then "Seven Out!" No reason that the two big ol' giant dice ought to favor one number over another on a short bounce, but I just don't like it when it happens.

To me, craps is played with two real dice thrown by a real shooter.

The Shoot to Win, the old-style video craps and the abominable "card craps" are simply abominations of the real game.

Don't get me wrong. I understand the appeal:

No having to know a plethora of complicated terminology.
No being embarassed by making a "wrong" bet or move.
No having to figure out the complex payouts of the bets.
No dealers to have to tip.
More solitude and privacy than having to play in what seems to be like a set for "Guys and Dolls."
No smokin'. No drinkin'. No cussin'.

But is it really the same as a crap game? To me? No.

It's just a personal bias, as I got my first exposure to the game in "fade" games for cash, like they show in the old movies. Guys throwing dice and players betting and fading stacks of bills.

Casino "bank" craps is the adaptation of the man-to-man street or barracks games for club play, but it still retains its basics as the premier gambling game of all time. To the confirmed crapshooter, there's simply no mechanical, computer, or card game that can take the place of real dice thrown by real shooters. If they ever take that away, then I'm through.

Just my $.02. But then again, you asked.

Forgot to mention a big advantage to the game; you don't have to stand.

That's one of the big reasons I liked the tub they had at Casino Royal. I got to sit at it.
I get it that it's a tradition to stand at a crap table. But I like to play for a long time. However I don't like to stand a long time.

I don't think you receive any points for playing these machines, I noticed at most casinos I played I wasn't getting any points on card while playing and I believe when I was at the Palms they had a sign stating no points.

Interesting. I wouldn't have thought they would have done it that way, but you might have something. I doubt you can get an advantage, but it's probably fun to try!

I just got back from Mirage and we played this game for about 3 hours with the same group of people who all knew the trick to trying to keep the dice the same. Like was said before, it worked maybe 1% of the time, but oh boy that 1% sure was fun. I was between a married couple, and the guy next to me was up about 600 and his wife was up another 350. I ended up winning close to $500 and this was probably only on about 6 rolls. The rest of the time I may have won about $50 or $75. When the dice would 7-out with a 6-1, I would load up on the horn (well a $10 horn bet for me is loading up LOL) It came out way more often than when standing and playing the regular game...like 1 out of every 4 rolls when the 7-out was 6-1. This was because the shake thing didn't always happen. Sometime they pop up to the top of the machine and sometimes they simply do not. And if you got a shooter who would watch the dice and not worry about the annoying voice, you could actually set your total...provided it was a roll that didn't pop.

I was pressing my horn bet from the $10 and hit 11 3 times in a row on two separate occasions. Again...this was only when the 7 out would be a 6 and 1. I would bet $10 and get around $40...then double the horn bet to $20 and get back $80...then when it hit a third time I would be betting $30 and get back $120. It did this twice over the 3 hours of play. And a couple times we hit back to back 2 or 12 and got back around $150 on the second shot I believe. I'm not sure of all the winnings and what I was betting and how I was paid, but it was a good time and it sure was exciting to be betting a $30 horn...I'm really only a $5 player so I never usually get that high. if I had any guts I would have pressed my winnings, but I'm not that aggressive.

But it's definitely true that on occasion, you can get lucky and set up a horn winner. Also, it is true you get no comps when playing this game. It took my card and said Hello to me, but I watched after an hour and the session points were still 0 so I just removed my card. Figured I didn't need to have them know how I was doing if they weren't going to comp me.

I would say definitely yes. It would be easier to try and make that seven come. Also the rest of the table doesn't know you're playing the dark side!
