Hmmm...interesting question if people take it seriously. Most of us gamblers here are degenerate gamblers to some degree while in Vegas "but addicted to gambling"...I'd say that's a no for me. I play like an addict when in Vegas but the only gambling I do at home in between 1-2 Vegas trips/yr is the occasional Lotto ticket. I don't think an addict goes that long w/o a fix of his or her drug (and I use that word loosely) of choice.

No. I like to gamble but after a few days of gambling in Vegas I'm over it. Even here at home I only visit the local casinos about 3-4 times a year. I don't ever find myself needing to gamble. I don't bet on sports either.

I feel like I am like this too, I go to Vegas once a year for MM and that's basically it. I live 30 minutes away in the middle from a casino in Milwaukee and a one in Illinois and rarely go to them, they are not fun to me.

I have 3 casinos within an hour drive from my house. 1 of them being 5 minutes away. I go to them about once a year and that's basically for free birthday bingo, or a cheap buffet lunch if my job takes near one of them. I figure as long as I can stay clear of them, I'm not an addict. I know a lot of people from my town that blow their checks and money set aside for more important things at those places so I'm learning from them.

I think I am to a certain extent..Cannot quit playing my numbers in the FL lottery after many years for fear that the day I stop playing ($10 a week) that they will come out..Not the big one,but the 5 number daily and the semi-weekly 4/w/mb...The lottery has me by the nuts like a roulette wheel when you chase a number to come out.

We have a local Indian casino that I have never set foot in after 20 years..Can wait for the VP play in AC/Vegas in nicer places.

I keep a couple atm cards in my banks safety deposit box cause if they were home Id be betting the ponies if bored on a day off. I even banned myself from TVG..It's just too easy and next thing you know you've blown a $100 in 2 races...Like would I really hand over that much cash in person at the track/racebook on a 6-1 when the drop=down option is 5.10.15.20.25.30 etc..? Hell no..

Those ATM cards do see the light of day in Las Vegas however..:wink

No, I have a set budget each day and when it's gone it's gone. I look at as entertainment and never expect to win anything.

Definitely in stretches, currently a recovering "gambohlic" in a decent controlled remission. But I don't think you can ever truly fully recover...ask Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

No way am I an addict. Hell, I've been going to Vegas for nearly 29 years haven't gotten hooked yet. Likewise, I've been having at least one drink per night and haven't gotten hooked on booze either. I'd like to elaborate, but I'm already late for my Gamblers Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Nope. I think to be an addict one has to have their addiction interrupt and ultimately destroy almost every facet of their life. Never been even close to let that happen. In my early Vegas sojourns in the 80s I went full tilt once for about a five hour period. I was disgusted with myself and learned from my mistake.

I was gonna say no, but after reading these replies I sure feel like one. I gamble a couple times a week but no more than $50 a week. Every single bar where I live has at least 5 gaming machines. Whenever I'm out (which is like 3-4 times a week) I'll always throw a few $5s in and try my luck.

Definitely the main reason and the main activity I pursue when in Vegas but I only gamble a few times a year, so I would say no.

    From a compulsive gambling hotline.

    Do you:

Find yourself reliving past gambling experiences, planning the next venture
, or thinking of ways to get money to gamble? Yes - I'm on VMB

Need to gamble with increasing amounts of money in order to feel the excitement? No - My bankroll has decreased over the years.

Become restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling? No

Gamble as a way of escaping from problems or relieving guilt, anxiety or depression? My Vegas trips are an escape from reality. Mark this a maybe-yes.

Often return another day in order to get even or chase your losses after gambling? On Vegas trips, yes. Have in the past.

Lie to family members, friends, therapist, or others to conceal the extent of involvement with gambling? No

Participate in illegal activities (e.g. forgery, fraud or theft) in order to finance your gambling? No

Jeopardize or lose a significant relationship, job or educational or career opportunity because of gambling? No

Rely on others to provide money to relieve a desperate financial situation caused by gambling? No

Attempt to control, cut back or stop gambling but are unable to do so? No

    My score 2.5-3.0

    Check your score below:
    1-2 at-risk

No way I'm addicted, yet it's my primary reason for going to Vegas twice and sometimes three times a year.

Only other "action" other than the occasional lottery ticket is my annual visit to see my son and his family in Tampa. Occasionally we'll hit the Hard Rock there, but always have to go to Tampa Bay Downs to play the ponies one day. A fun day in the sun.

When it comes to stakes/amounts, I have it under control. But I tend to think about gambling a LOT (on here, wizardofvegas, videopoker.com ). Nearest casinos 30 min. away, only been to those twice this year, so far. By the end of the week though, I'll have gone to Tunica twice and Vegas once this year as well.

When PokerStars existed in the US for real money, oh yeah, major addict. I played probably about 5 days a week.

Interesting topic. From the standpoint of routinely planning for my Vegas trips and the topic is constantly on my mind..... Then yes maybe, however that excitement could also be attributed to the shows, food, and all the other things associated with Vegas. But the fact still remains, the primary reason I go to Las Vegas is the gambling. Sooooooo, I guess I am an addict........(maybe lol)
