So the trick is to get there just as they are switching over from lunch to dinner, eh?

Unfortunately, I'm not really hungry at that time, but it might be cool to just pig out on crab, shrimp and beer, then not eat again until Mid Rats. (Midnight Rations, for the non-ex-military, or all night breakfast).

The buffets are catching on also. Many now have a set time when they remove the food and close for an hour or so while they set up for dinner.

It's a nice benefit if you are hungry at switchover time but as said above many places are taking preventative measures.

Going for dinner at 3:30 to save $5 isn't worth it to me. Going to a buffet for dinner isn't really worth it period.

It's not about getting a deal, it's about getting the food when it's fresh. I don't mind paying full price if I'm getting the food as it comes out of the kitchen.

If I am going to a buffet with free booze i make it a point to get there close to opening time and leave when I have well worn out my welcome.

If no booze then i wait until the lines die down.

a mid rats buffet with free beer would be the perfect combo.

This was a "trick" my parents used to use when I was younger. We'd arrive at the buffet right before switch over. It allowed us to go to "dinner" but at cheaper prices.

In Vegas we tend to eat a breakfast buffet in the morning and then a late lunch. So sometimes the timing works out well for us and we weren't even really trying to game the system.

Buffet day in LV for breakfast I always eat a small bowl of oatmeal at Starbucks, McDonalds or somewhere else.

For lunch I eat a garden salad and handful of almonds

By the usual time buffets switch over from lunch to dinner I am ready to eat my hand.

Don't they just take the trays in the back and pile on more stuff?
There isn't such a thing as "fresh" at a buffet. :wink2:

Exactly. Also the nicer buffets are $30, you can have a nice sit down meal at a ton of places for that... without waiting in line, and you can have fresh food... unless you really wanna pig out on crab legs it hardly seems worth it to me.

I don't do the buffets like I used to. Old age has me preferring a nice sit down dinner.

However, when I used to do buffets for dinner the switchover from lunch to dinner was perfect for me. Because being from back east, at 3:30-4:00, my internal time clock was telling me it was 6:00-7:00 and time to eat. Not so much to save a few bucks, but as has been said, to get the food fresh as it was coming out.

I love Buffets...I've never had an issue with "old" food sitting there. I have been to many buffets in Vegas. I seem to run into pans sitting empty...changed out quickly with fresh food...Even at CC I have never had old food. I love the buffet's ...I get a huge selection and get my fill.

Lets say when youre a family of 4 going to Bacchanal Buffet, Lunch vs Dinner could be $10-15 difference each person. You could already be paying $120 for all. So thats $60 possible savings for just timing it. Saving money is saving money. We all arent billionaires that can waste all this money all over the place.

You getting the most out of your money is what its all about.
