    Hi,

We're booked into Excalibur for 12 nights. Because it was so cheap, we are thinking of booking one night in the middle somewhere a bit posher.

We intend to leave most of our stuff in Excal and just take what we need to the other place (ie this night would be double booked)

Looking around we were thinking of the Cosmopolitan one bedroom terrace suite with fountain view, this is currently coming out at $250.

Can anyone recommend this or an alternative? Budget could go up to $400 max. Doesn't have to have a strip or fountain view, but that would be nice. Having a terrace sounds awesome, and a large bathroom would be good.

    Cheers,

    Justin

Your best bet is to upgrade during a weeknight as rates will be much cheaper.

The Cosmo is an excellent selection mid- Strip. I love their rooms and casino.

I also liked the MGM Signature for their balcony and room quality. These rooms feature a very nice jacuzzi, a refrigerator and limited kitchen. I like the oasis from the Strip aspect as well. You can likely book two weeknights at MGM Signature for the price of one Cosmo night. The Four Seasons (at Mandalay Bay) or Mandarin Oriental are also good alternatives for a "get away from the Strip".

Wynn / Encore have great rooms, sans a balcony, and is another good alternative. If you are younger, you'll likely prefer Cosmo, though Wynn/Encore has great clubs, nice pools and vary large bathrooms as well.

I have also enjoyed my rooms at TheHotel @ Mandalay Bay. You'll have access to their great pool, the rooms are very nice with a very large jacuzzi and bathroom. It's also an easy transfer to/from Excalibur on the free tram.

I would perhaps consider saving your "splurge night or two" to the end of the trip if you think you'll be disappointed returning to your original hotel room. I try to escalate my hotel quality when booking two/more hotels within a trip, depending on comp availability.

Yeah Cosmo would be an excellent choice in what you are looking for. Its a good thing you are going for the fountain view its so worth it. Terrace studio and terrace 1 bedroom are there standard balcony rooms, i prefer terrace studio because of the layout but both are nice. Look to see if you can get a deal on the terrace suite (all have fountain view), its a real suite and definitely worth spending a little extra on. But most important is as mentioned a balcony with a fountain view.

Book some room type on a Sun - Tues at Cosmo that has a guaranteed terrace and fountain view.

When you check in, find out how much it will cost to upgrade to a Wraparound Terrace Suite, but only on the northeast corner of the East Tower, and only on a high floor (high enough so that the Bellagio bell tower doesn't block any of the view of the fountains). If it comes in under $400, do it. If not, stick with the room you booked.

I'd definitely go with Cosmo. Great location, great view from a high floor fountain view terrace suite.
I wish I could get my cheapskate SO to go for a night or two. Upside is, we have long trips, downside, cheaper hotels. I don't mind really.

All of their websites have pictures of their rooms. Take a look and see what appeals to you.

Cosmo is very unique in they have the outdoor balconies. We have done that a few times. Very special.

High is good, but not too high. We were very, very high on one trip. Cool, but you could no longer hear the fountains music we were so high up.

Thanks for your help and the tips on the room :)

We looked at the Bellagio, Paris and Planet Hollywood, but I think we're sold on the Cosmo - I want to try the Henry as well and also the Secret Pizza place that everyone raves about.

    Cheers,

    Justin

I wholeheartedly endorse Cosmo, but you may want to look into Palms since they now have their new policy of being able to check out as late as 11pm: seems like that is tailor-made for your situation, because you'd be able to spend a TON of time in your room for one night.

    Room with show package...

A few years ago... my daughter and I... were staying comped downtown... but wanted to see the Bette Midler show. It was cheaper to get a room at Caesar's with a show package than it was to buy show tickets alone. We had great seats in the 4th row. Just stuck our nighties and toothbrushes in our purse and spent the night. Have fun!

Cosmo for 250 is a good value for luxury.

We do this all the time at various hotels and have stayed at the Cosmo. I can highly recommend it, especially with a fountain view.
