I haven't been out (on a Sunday) in a couple years but I used to like playing the mixed game Sunday nights at IP. Is it still happening at the Quad? if so, how popular is it? I remember this was around summer of 2012 because the Olympics were on, the game took an hour to get going because of lack of interested but once it got going, it went all night.

I failed to get it going on Presidents' Day weekend last month. I posted ahead of time on All Vegas Poker and the Las Vegas Mixed Games facebook page to no avail. I probably should have informed 2+2 and here about it, although I'm not sure that would have helped either. First time in 8 trips since 2011 that I didn't play it. And on my first trip since the poker boom, on Labor Day Weekend 2011, we played it without air conditioning!!!!!

Probably one the saddest moments I ever had in Vegas. I actually try to build my schedule around that game, and really don't play live poker in Vegas outside of this game. Another guy from San Fran consistently plays in it when visiting, he got it running on Super Bowl Weekend and Fri. Feb. 28. But it's on major life support. Of course if you yourself bring 4+ buddies to play, they'd start the game for you. It would more likely run during the WSOP too, I'd think.

Currently though, 8/16 Mix at Venetian runs more consistently. Next trip, I'll be willing to play that if I have to. But I would rather play drunken 3/6 and not have to worry about possibly losing $400+.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably avoid the Quad poker room if that game doesn't get going Sunday night. The PLO game at Venetian is nice if there aren't too many crazy people at it. I'm with you that $8/16 mixed game could get pretty costly, but it might be worth a try. What nights does the Venetian game go and what games do they play?

This is all totally accurate. I'm a regular AVP visitor and have played at the Mirage with that guy from San Fran a few times. I will say he was almost fanatical in his trying to get this game going and keeping it going when he wasn't even going to be in town. In the end while they did get a great game going at the Quad a couple times it couldn't get enough support.

He posted that he got a new job and wouldn't be back for at least a year. I would say this game is dead. In the end his insistence on only triple draw games and his insistence on all the various badugi games probably didn't give it a fair chance of success because of this. His idea of a mix game excluded all the most popular games and included the slowest games including one which in my opinion is by far the worst of all. He did try his best to get people in though, I'll give him that much.

Yeah, him and Mark (Nocaution on AVP) were the two guys that have helped kept the game afloat in the past year. The guy that originally created the game never plays it anymore. The whole Quad reno definitely did not help. The traffic on AVP as a whole is not that good either. This forum gets a lot more traffic than AVP. Well, except when talking about poker.

As for keeping all the draw games in, that's why I play the game! I can play hold'em anywhere. There is a casino 30 minutes from my house. Unfortunately, you pretty much scare people 98% off if you dare play anything but holdem. :(

Curious to know, what was the "worst" game, in your opinion? I usually tried to save piss breaks for 4 Card Crazy Pineapple w/Ocean...:evillaugh

And to partially answer CFioren317's question as well. From what I have heard (I've actually never played it), Venetian's 8/16 mix varies, but usually will include things like O8, S8, Razz, 2-7TD, Badugi, Badacey, Badeucey, and others by request. If it was 6/12 or lower, I snap play this game.

I was talking about Badugi. It's too slow for a social casual 3-6 mix game. A lot of people have never heard of it either. You can't find Stud 8 everywhere and I think tossing one triple draw game like badugi and adding Stud 8 instead would have given the game a better shot. I think that guy's name was Chuck, i told him that when I was playing with him but he dismissed it and went on with trying to get the 24 year old dealer to play on Sunday night. The kid didn't have a clue what he was talking about nor did he have any interest. He was also asking every 5 minutes to play a round of Razz in the 3-6 game at Mirage which drew silence every time.

Like you said this is a very small pool of people your drawing from already, widening it a bit would have given the game a better chance IMO.

Stud8 is a standard part of the 3/6 mix game (and many others, fwiw) . If he got rid of that, then it definitely would be way too draw heavy.

Getting rid of Badugi would be bad. That game is on pokerstars, so people somewhat interested in a mix game probably know the rules already, or it won't take them too long to pick it up. Also draw games go faster than you might think, especially when the players know what they're doing. :( In 5 to 6 handed games, 30 hands an hour isn't unheard of. And it's rarely slower than 20 hands an hour at a full table of 8 where all 8 players are not experienced.

If I wanted to just play horse, I would just go to Orleans and play in their horse tourney.

I don't think I've ever played with Chuck to be honest. Sounds a bit pushy; also reads that way from his AVP posts. No one should be asking a 3/6 holdem table to play razz. Omaha 8 maybe, but not razz. God, I think I'd rather play holdem than razz...lol

And the problem with getting rid of some of the games is that the people willing to play have fell in love with some of them. Get rid of the wrong one, you might tick someone off. Unfortunately, you're right the base is smaller than it ever has been. I'm willing to bend on games if it would attract more people. Not sure if it would though.
