Doing our March Madness trip downtown for the 15th straight year, however, the wife can't come until Thursday of that week. We always get a limo through presidential limo, but the wife will have to take a cab. Will she have any trouble telling the cabbie no tunnell? Also, how do you tell them to go downtown?

Looking to help my wife have a smooth cab ride to the Nugget.

    Thanks!

You will usually have no problem at all. Most of the cabbies know the difference, unless you get one that is a crook. I just ask them "take me to Fremont and Casino Center, avoid the tunnel". Only one guy screwed me on the tunnel after I asked him not too. His dispatch and I had words.

When I go to MSS from the airport I just ask them to take Paradise. Once the guy said something like, "oh, you want to go the long way then," and I said "yup." It's 10 bucks cheaper.

Tell them Paradise to St Louis to LV Blvd. That will pretty much get you right downtown, I just drove it this weekend about 4 times!

From the Gold Spike to the airport it cost me about $25 plus tip. I told him the airport by way of Paradise.

Took a cab from the Nugget to the airport on Thursday morning. I told the cabbie "we're in no hurry, so no freeway & no tunnel, ok?"
His reply was "Hey - I was going to offer you that choice!"
I said "fine" (with a tinge of sarcasm).
    Fare was about $24.

...or if she doesn't deserve a limo...

...tell her to take the WAX for only $2.00.

I told a cabbie once no tunnel - he took it. His tip was instantly gone!

Hmmm..., that might be a good idea. The WAX is usually fast, on time, and rarely full. Roomier than a limo, she can really stretch out!

I got scammed from Downtown recently by a cabbie. He took the freeway to the airport which is fine, but instead of turning onto Tropicana kept going and we went the tunnel. The cab fare was around $40. I took Maryland from the airport which was over $10 cheaper. That cabbie told me to take Paradise like others have suggested instead of Maryland. I will try Paradise this next trip.

I get ripped off every time. Last time I stayed at Downtown Grand and it was like $45. Thanks for the information. They really need a flat fee system...

I got f'd when I stayed at GN. The scam was I told the cabbie not to take the tunnel and then they mysteriously get a cell call saying there is traffic and that it would be better to take a different route. I felt like an idiot.

Next time I'm coming prepared with the route and if there is push back, I'll say it's my lucky route. I got that idea from the Five Hundy podcast.

    WAX

Another vote for the WAX. $2, and it takes pretty much the same time as a cab (about 30 minutes). Never full, has luggage racks, takes you to the terminal entrance the limos use. Unless you've got a lot of luggage, have mobility limitations, or are leaving/arriving when the WAX doesn't run, why a cab?

I agree with some of the other posters – if a limo is good enough for you, the wife should get one too! It may cost an extra 20 or 30 bucks, but she’ll avoid all the stress of a cab and I guarantee the good karma will pay you back many times over.
