Okay, I've been reading a lot of the comp section but I'm still trying to fully get my head around it. I really want to know if I'm going to get comps and if so how for my upcoming trip. Also whilst I don't want to play just to get comps, I do want to know how to maximize and what I can expect to get.

    My situation is as follows:

I've been to Vegas only once before and didn't use a players card or anything

This time I'm going with one friend and staying for 6 nights ina $750 a night
Skyline Marquee Suite at the MGM Grande

Bankroll is $10,000. Table games and poker.

Will be eating in a few of the top end restaurants.

Any advice massively appreciated!!! I'd obviously be more interested in how I could get something comped off this trip more than future trips.

I know other will chime in and give more detailed info, but I believe these are the basics.

    1. Use your players card every time you play.
    2. Play at least $25/hand on table game
    3. Charge everything to your room.
    4. Near the end of your trip (night before you leave), you can do one of 2 thing.
      a) Go to the players club and ask them to remove any charges
      b) Go to the players club and ask to speak with a host and see if he can remove any charges*

    * With that kind of bankroll, I would talk to a host at the end of the trip

Pretty much do all of this.

Although MLife changed their table game rating system and will now rate you at any level, not just $25/hand and above. Although with a $10k bankroll, not sure he will be playing below that!

I'd go the 4(b) route and talk with a host. They will take a look at your play and may comp you room charges and/or meals depending on your play. It would also be a good chance to meet a host as you should get some nice offers when/if you decide to come back (again assuming good play).

It all depends, if you spend 40% of your bankroll playing poker, then your remaining $1000 bankroll/day is not going to get you very much!

You already have all the right suggestions, see a host at the end of your trip and ask if they can do anything for you!

    Good Luck!

The properties don't take live poker into consideration for comps. Some rooms will give you a very small hourly comp (like a dollar an hour or less).

If you meant video poker, that's a totally different animal.

You are booked into a fantastic room, but it will take a lot of play to get that comped on the back end. I would guess $500+/hand for 4 hours a day or more at tables. With your bankroll, though, some significant food/bev will be picked up. Charge everything to the room. If you have a particularly heavy day of play or losses in the middle of your trip, check with a host at that time and ask him where you stand. He may go ahead and reduce the room rate, comp one or more days, or wipe off some food and bev right there. That will also give you a contact/someone to call on your last day.

As has been mentioned, poker rates very poorly for comps and will not be much of a factor at all for your stay.

It all comes down to how much you bet and how long do you play. At MLIFE casino's I've just gone to the MLIFE desk before check out and asked if there's anything they can knock off. At the Cosmo I went to the host on duty in the high limit room that's off the main floor (not Talon Room).

Make sure the room is tied to your MLIFE account.

    http://www.vegastripping.com/compcalculator/

Take what it says your donation to the casino is and multiply that by .35 or .4 and that's approx the amount of comps you should get. And yes they will comp a portion of a stay. I think usually they try to knock off meals and other smaller expenses. But don't over gamble your bankroll for a comp. If your action is worth 2 nights of comps, they'll knock off two of the nights.

I dont think this comp calculator is very accurate.

When I first started going to Vegas I would only play penny slots at $0.40 a hand for about 4 hours a day and I was getting free midweek and discounted weekend rooms.

this calculator says I should get nada

Looks like the "penny slot" algorithm is broken, it doesnt output a value for anything

Yeah, looks like penny slot calc is broken. I only use it to calculate a rough theo loss. Of course each property is either more generous or stingy depending how they feel. Room comps are the toughest to gauge it seems. Just because a room might be $150/nt on a given day, doesn't mean they won't comp it for a small player considering they are under capacity.

At $750 per night, the total room cost is $4500 (6 nights) not including taxes and resort fees. You will need a theo of more than 10k to get the room comped.

Depending on your theo, you could get some nights and food comped.

    Don't play for comps.

    Good luck.

    Do not expect much.

You are really going to spend $750 a night for a room?

    Wow!

You might get some help, but it all depends on total play. And play at any MGM casino will help, but play primarily at MGM Casino is your best bet.

    But... does it really matter?

It is a 2br suite, recently refurbished, and very large. I stayed in one last year and I would say $750 is a very fair price for it if paying.

My bankroll is not remotely close to yours (I am a slot player) and I get 4 nights comped weekends/week days, $100 resort credit, and $100 free play. I've never had to pay any food/beverage over and above my resort credit (all I pay is tips). BUT I stay in a Grand King, so your room choice may be the deal breaker. How much time will you spend in the room?

I think everyone is forgetting that the size of your bankroll doesn't matter. It's all about theo. So it's about how long you play out that $10,000, not about how much you spend.

To get that room comped, you're going to have to play a minimum of around $500 per hand on blackjack and with a $10,000 bankroll, that's only 20 potential hands. It's possible to lose that bankroll fairly quickly if you get on a losing streak. If you lose it quickly, you might not see much in the way of comps, but you can potentially get a loss rebate.

Also, trying to milk $10,000 for a 7 day trip betting huge amounts trying to get your room comped is very unlikely unless you do very well.

Since it seems like you're well off enough to afford a $750 per day room, don't worry about comps. Just play at your comfort level and have a good time.

Also, stay away from poker and spend that time playing slots or table games.

Yes, it's not cheap but you get what you pay for..... And to be honest i was VERY lucky, I booked the suite for the weekend of the fight a few months before it was announced. I suspect you'd pay at least double that now.

And yes - It does still matter. I'm under no illusions about getting the room itself comped for the whole trip or anything, but it's still good to get what you're due.

I think the first reply pretty much sums it up for you table games/slot/VP play. Unless you go on a hot streak you're unlikely to get your room comped but as long as you play for a half decent amount of time they should take care of some/all of the meals that you charge to your room.

The most important thing is to get a players card as soon as you get there and use it whenever you gamble, charge everything you can to your room, see a host/players club the night before you leave.

For poker you get $1 per hour which you can use in the MGM food places on site (this doesn't include the food court). Ask for a comp slip at the poker desk and they'll give you a redemption voucher which will have a list of restaurants you can use it for, you have to use it within 24hrs, you don't get change from it but it can be used as part payment I just ask after every day or two when I want to get some food so I don't forget about it at the end of the trip.

Just bet at a level that you're comfortable with and at end of the trip visit MLIFE and see what they can do. You should at least get a few meals and resort fees knocked off with moderate action.

You need to say what table game you play, your average bet and hours per day if you want anyone to say what comps you can expect. Poker hardly gets comps. So forget about the poker part of your bankroll. If the rest of your bankroll for 6 days of table games is $5,000 for example then you probably can't bet more than enough to get some food comp and future offers. Unless you get lucky early on and can bet more.

Dont worry too much about comps. Hosts can be annoying and get up in your business. I wish they were all replaced by computers.

I hope you like the marquee suite. I dont like it. It is too far and it is only a big space with no extra amenities then a normal room. I think it is the worst suite for the money at MGM.

I didn't see it mentioned here yet. I've found that play at the casino you are staying at seems to count more than play at other casinos. If you do play significantly at other MLife casinos, you will want to tell the players club desk this when they are looking into comps at the end of your trip.
