Hi, I was playing craps, locally and seen a man playing both the pass line and the DP. He was basicall pushing on the pass line bets and then just betting the odds to the max depending on the #. his only risk was a come out roll on a 12, and would lose both(did'nt happen). His strategy appeared to be to bet the dont pass odds on the 4, and 10. On the 5,9 he would not bet any odds, then on 6/8 he would bet full odds on the pass.

He was also playing the 6/8 when neither were the point. He was doing quite well.

Anybody played this way and have any feedback?

impressive strategy, but has a high house edge, compared to just playing pass+odds and just playing dp +odds. too bad the 12 will kill the doey-don't player during the come-out. one good advantage for you is that you can remove the don't pass bet, and hope that the shooter makes the point, saving you some extra money.
on the other hand, if he makes a profit, and stays in the game longer, there is a good chance his profit will go back to the house.

statistically, the house edge for doey-don't is high, because you're putting up more money to win a small amount.

    Simple answer.
    1) if you win the passline flat bet you are only getting even money.
    2) if you bet the same on pass and don't (Called Doey Don't bet) one pays the other but then play the same amount in behind your pass line bet and receive true odds if it wins. Example: if point is 4 and wins you receive 2to1 return on your win for your odds placed.

Betting the 6/8 is just a bet the player decides to play regardless of the doey/don't.

My real question is? Has anyone played this? if so, is it your main game, or just something you would do to change it up.

I played this strategy 3 times on Wizard of odds for about a hour each. Once, I won 4 times the bank, and the other 2 times I justed played and played with no loss or gain to speak of.(note-on wizard of odds, I play the 10k start up like it is $100, so my pass line is a $500 bet on the game)

On my big winning session, I had some of 4/10's dont wins, but also took down my 6/8 after 2-3 hits(when playing odds on the dont) and waited for the point to hit or or 7 out. When playing the pass 6/8 I played full 5x odds.

On my kissing sister sessions, I was leaving the 6/8 placebets up till RED showed up, and even though I won some don't that the place losses, nullified profits. When playing the pass on 6/8 I played full 5x odds consistently.

Morale of my 3 sessions is that when playing on the dont with the 4/10 was to sneak a few hits on the 6/8, or press once, rake, and pull them down.

My normal game is 3 point molly, or 44 regression game.

enough babble, give me some thoughts! I am coming in in 20 days, and need some love.

i've seen a guy play the doey-don't with $100 chips. He has an enormous buy-in. he adds 6x odds to the pass line if the number is 6&8. he adds 6x odds to the don't if the number is 4 and 10. then he waits for the point or 7. He wins, but not by much if he were to only play the pass line + max odds or only dp + odds.
i'm glad the casino allows a player to make 2 separate bets.

Would this be a way to get massive comps?

No, because comps in craps are really not that good unless you're betting huge.

This sounds vaguely familiar like a strategy used here by a member on the board as there was a thread about it.

As far as this strategy being widely used the answer is no.

I have never seen anyone play this way. Does it mean that no one does? No, it simply means it isn't a common practice. Why you ask? Probably because the majority of folks play Craps for the excitement. The strategy you posted doesn't really take advantage of that aspect.

Thanks for the comments. I am 47 and have played craps for at least 20 years, and have not noticed the doey/don't player. As I get older, and play a more of relaxed game with fewer comes and more simple basic pass line play, I find I am watching more player strategy while I'm waiting for the point to hit.

Realize that the doey-don't player isn't 'getting away' with something. There is a house advantage on both bets; the fact that they usually cancel each other out in payouts doesn't change this fact. Ignoring the odds bets, he's GUARANTEED to either win nothing and be be a loser; it's impossible for him to win anything. The house loves bets that look like that! And he won't be getting rated on his odds bets, anyway.

A doey/don't player is getting lower house odds than a pass ora DP player.
When he is playing max odds. In this gents game, he was only not playing any odds when it was a 5 or 9. On these rolls he was pushing and waiting for a new number.

Note- he was playing the 6/8 place bet at all times.

Ok, ignoring the place 6/8 for now. A do/don't player is still only losing twice as much. They are losing 1.4% of 2X table minimum on each resolved bet.

This is identical to player betting 2X table minimum on the pass line. I guess I just wouldn't call this a "huge house edge".

On comps on these players. I have heard of places completely ignore comps for these players. I don't understand why, but oh well.

    Doey- Dont

I play Doey-don't 97% of the time over the last 3 years. I play like this... 1000 on do and 1300 on don't. I throw 30.00 on the 12 every other come out roll. The 30.00 has saved me several times over the last 3 years. Luckily only lost a hand full of times on the 12. (I understand the house edge is well against me by doing this and I am well versed in this game). Don't care what point is established as I always play 600.00 in odds on the dark side only. I am up high 5 figures in that time. I usually play 10 hours give or take over a 3 day period. Only crowded tables and I might stay on the side lines several hands and watch. For 25 years I played the "Right side" and did nothing but help build Las Vegas Casinos. I loved giving high fives and the action so one day three years ago I said why am I doing this. The fricken 7 comes up more than any other number! Went to the dark side and now im giving my friends low 5s instead. I am very methodical about it and I am smart and careful with my play. All of that being said, can you guess another big reason I play 1000-1300? (No snide remarks please)By the way I don't live in Vegas. Hint hint..

The 12 is the doey-don't weakness.

i'll have to try out your strategy, but my bankroll is $500, so i will start small. i'll have to remember to bet on midnight during comeout roll.
when the shooter has made his point, do you stop betting until he 7s out or do you continue the doey-don't?

Don't waste your money betting on midnight. The worst thing that can happen is you lose one bet when 12 rolls. Coughing up a small amount betting on 12 every time is going to be far worse. Good luck on your odds bets.

I believe the usual pattern is just to bet do/don't on the comeout, then put the odds on the side you like. Wait until it's resolved and then start over. I suppose you could continue this with come/don't come; that could add up to a lot of money at risk pretty quickly.

I like the dark side that's why I put more money on that side. You can switch it around if you like the right side if you want. With a 500 bankroll I would try 25 do and 35 don't with maybe 35 to 70 or so in odds. If you win a few in a row and you are feeling lucky you can take those odds up to 210...Or, raise you initial bet to 100 do and 175 don't with no odds and variations of that. Playing that amount I wouldn't put money on the 12. It is all relative. If the 12 comes up for me I lose 1000! So I want to protect myself at least every other roll. that's me. Keep in mind I make the same bet every time. I don't raise it or lower it. I think that might be one reason why im winning. Also, if you are betting 100-175 that will give you a 275 avg for comps but only risking 75.00 bucks!

    my question is:

    Why?
why do you play 1000/pass and also 1300/Don't when all you have to do is just play 300/Don't?
    Is it not the same?
    Am I missing something here?

Two reasons. One, I want to be able to put 3 to 6 thousand in odds if I feel it. Second, I have a 2000 avg bet.

The whole "Doey/Don't" strategy, as it's understood by me, is to get out on a point without having to fight the all-powerful seven on the come out. The "Do/Don't" player knows the come out roll is close to a push. He is hoping to not see a 12 and then laying as many dollars as he can afford in odds against any point number. This bet I believe has a house advantage of .3% with single odds (even less with, say, 10X odds... but I'm no mathmetician) So it's a decent way to play provided you don't run into a really hot table or a blizzard of box cars... but in my mind it's only really viable as a pure wrong bettor strategy where you are using the opening come out bet(s) to avoid the seven on the come out...

As an aside...craps dealers generally hate seeing this play and get really annoyed, so it might be a better fit for the new electronic craps machines for those with thin skins...
