First, is that walk possible? safe?

Second, what part of the strip does the walk lead into?

Sure... it's a reasonable, walkable distance... don't really pass anything of note. Safe? Well yeah in the daytime, for sure, but not sure I'd do it alone late at night. Harmon is the street that goes directly from Hard Rock to the Strip. It comes in right across from the Cosmo. Of course you could also walk up to Flamingo and that would enter right where the Cromwell is being built.

The walk is possible. During the day it should be safe IMHO. Not sure at night though, there really isn't much along the way to the strip, mostly small hotels and motels and empty lots designated for future hotels and casinos.

You would take Harmon Ave from the HRH to the strip. It will end up near the south side of the PH.

I think it will all depend on the temps when you go, the walk can be brutal in the hot summers or cold winters.

You can. It's just under a mile and a half walking straight west on Harmon. That will take you to Planet Hollywood. Not sure about the safety factor though.

Thanks smartone! I thought the next intersection near hard Rock was where Terribles is....is there a connection to the strip from that road?

Hmm...those side streets are always sketchy. Darn. I wonder if there is a bus up/near that way. Or maybe I can walk to Terribles and get on the 202.

I did it once in 1994, when hard rock was only a café, not a hotel. It wasn't very far and seemed safe enough for two 21 year old men in early evening. We barely encountered anyone. However, I wouldn't do it at night today, wouldn't do it alone, and wouldn't do it if I were a woman.

thanks for all the info guys.

Dankyone, you have got me worried! I didn't know whether to depend on the strip shuttle. I am trying to save on taxis for late nights...but I guess I put myself in the predicament.

In reality nothing would probably happen. But you say yourself the side streets are sketchy--and they are. Just walk to somewhere close like Planet Hollywood (the entrance at Signature at MGM is probably even closer) and take a cab--the cabbie will hate you but it won't cost much and will save you the worry.

It will cost a bit only because I often use credit instead of cash and they always tack on a $3 surcharge for credit. :grrr: I usually tip $3 flat in the area. So that's $6 before the cost. A day bus pass costs only 8 bucks. I guess I will have to just pay the price to be off-strip. Maybe I will only go to the strip once while at Hard Rock and then take the taxi once at night.

I can see comprising on convenience; though I don't do that often on vacation. Safety is another thing, even if it's just the perception, since peace of mind has immense value. In all likelihood what would happen? Then again, if it is 1 in 10,000, being that one ain't a good thing. Money is cheap, S-girl, choose safety, please.

For the factual question: It's an easy walk by anyone moderately ambulatory, and you end up a PHo.

Another thing is that the taxi stand at HRH will probably have more than just you waiting. Split a cab with others. 10 bucks says that there will be a chivalrous man who will pick up the entire tab, at least some of the time.

And there's waiting involved? Hmm...this off-strip thing. What I do for a beautiful pool. Chivalry would be nice if safety is not compromised. What an ordeal. lol

We have done it several times. Never in the summer months, which would be far too hot, but spring and fall for sure. We felt perfectly safe each time. We only did it once at night, and there were four of us. (Me, SO, my parents.) Daytime alone, I wouldn't think twice. Night time? No.
You can get to Harmon/LVB by going right out of HR. You will end on the strip by Harley Davidson/ Walgreens/ City Centre. I think the view of CC from Harmon is great.
Go left out of HR, up Paradise to Flamingo. Left again and end up at Bally's/Bellagio/Caesars/Cromwell. Best corner on the strip!

Yes... if you walk from the Hard Rock (Paradise and Harmon) north on Paradise, the next intersection is Flamingo. That's where Silver Sevens (old Terribles) is located. If you exit that end of the Hard Rock, it's just a half block and there's a traffic signal to cross mid block now. Paradise is safe enough at anytime, IMHO as there's lot of traffic and it's well lit. There are the usual small time hustler's "running' their games" along Paradise though.

Love it when people in the taxi line ask if anyone is looking to split a cab. I don't usually have a concrete plan so I usually just say YES and get dropped off wherever they are. He my first downtown adventure from that one, worked out well!

you could always keep a few $10 bills handy for cab fare to avoid that extra cost.

Yes, I have done the HRH to PH walk along Harmon many times and at all hours and in all conditions of sobriety. There is usually plenty of other people about making the walk even late at night and the traffic is always steady, so I felt safe despite meeting the odd sketchy character and witnessing drug deals going down all along the way. But for a female alone at night I would recommend walking to Flamingo and catching the bus.

There is nothing sketchy about that walk at all, other than you are walking in a big city by yourself. I always say its best to walk with someone anywhere in Vegas, but its a busy street and no one will bother you short of a few bums asking for change, if that! I will take the bums over the superheroes and fake showgirls any day!
