I realize this is date specific but my last trip in August just happened to coincide with the annual Star Trek convention at the Rio. Spending a day at the convention was a highlight of my trip!

Perhaps there's groups or organizations that hold gatherings on your trip dates. I still remember seeing all the Rockabilly's walking around at the Gold Coast on my second trip. It just added to the Vegas experience that we saw all these "Grease" looking folks walking around. Actually, my first trip coincided with a NASCAR race in April and Ive never seen so many people wearing those racing jackets (with all the sponsor logos) walking around.

Other than that, I assume you've gone off strip before and done Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Grand Canyon, etc?

Zipline in boulder city! They offer roundtrip transport on the strip also. It was a great experience. Flightlinezbootleg.com

We went to "Dig This". Its a place where you drive a bulldozer or front end loader etc. and dig holes, climb hills and stuff. We could not do it because they were booked up for a month in advance.

Sams Town bowling alley is old and worn. If you want good bowling alleys you can check out the southpoint alley. Neat because they have a center walkway and alleys on both sides of the walk way. Neat with tournaments because you can see the action on both sides.

The Red Rock alley is awesome, they even have a separate VIP area with 10 or so lanes. In the VIP area they have free sodas and foodstuffs for the bowlers.

many of the newer alleys are more spacious so you aren't cramped into a few seats like you find at Sam's town alley. Even the Orleans has decent alleys with spacious seating areas.

As for unusual things to do, you can always go to a gun range and shoot a machine gun. Or go indoor skydiving. Go to the top of The STRAT and see all of vegas. Eiffel Tower. drive to hoover dam or lake las vegas. Hit outlying casinos like the M Resort or GVR or red rock station. Drive out to primm to the shopping center or the resorts out there (check out Bonnie and Clyde's car).

Drive out to the extraterrestrial highway. Mesquite or valley of fire. Mount Charleston.

    Drive out to Pahrump.....

the chicken ranch is right next to Sheri's ranch so you can visit both places.

So much to do, it depends on what you want out of your trip.

There's the Pinball Hall of Fame.

    1610 E Tropicana Ave

    They're open 11:00AM - 11:00PM.

They have aisle after aisle of vintage pinball machines available for play.

The machines are primarly those of one man's personal collection, plus some acquisitions, which are maintained by enthusiasts. Proceeds are donated to local charities annually.

Their repair shop is open and the guys will gladly answer any questions.

We took a tour of Sheri's. It was extremely enlightening, and we could have a drink in the bar and chat to the girls that were on duty but not working.

They will NOT tell you their prices until you commit to some type of service, so don't get disappointed about that if you take the tour.

Go shooting at one of the indoor shooting ranges in town. You can shoot a full automatic gun...I'm planning on doing this when I go in June
