After 14 years, we're moving from MSS to Suncoast

This really is a big shift for us. We are going to spend our entire April (10-15) trip at the Suncoast.

We have been staying at MSS for about the last 14 years, but it seems to be getting a little stale and we need a change. I'm not sure how this will turn out, but we are going to try it. Suncoast is kind of isolated, the only other casino around is Rampart, but in reality, we only end up going to Four Queens anyway when we stay downtown. When we lived in Vegas, Suncoast was in our top 2 of casinos we liked. It is a Boyd property, so my points still add up on my B Connected card.

They have a free shuttle to/from the airport and if the timing doesn't work, there is always the WAX bus for a buck each way.

I don't want to schlep golf clubs, but I think we'll rent some at Angel Park which is across the street. We also like walking and the Angel Park walking path (5 miles, free) is next door to Suncoast.

A host comped us the 5 nights up front with a golf course view room. My biggest concern is food. We don't go nuts on the free food we get with the Gold Card at downtown Boyd properties, but they don't have that option at Suncoast. The host said just charge everything to the room and "I should be able to take care of it". A couple of hundred in food bills isn't going to break us, it is just not what I'm used to.

I have to admit flashing the Gold Card still makes me feel like a "big shot" downtown. No criticism needed if that sounds pompous, I'm just saying it did.

Old Vegas veteran and the thought of staying at a different place has me excited, maybe something I haven't been feeling the last few trips.

Unless I stumble across Turtleman at Suncoast, I guess I won't bump into many VMBers. However, just in case, at SC my favorite VP machine is next to the crap tables, left side of the bar.:poke:

Sounds like a good choice, Joe.

We've visited Suncoast a few times and I've always enjoyed the place.

Only downside for me is the ventilation system doesn't do all that well
clearing the smoke in the casino but hey, I can live with it when in Vegas.

I hope you and the wife have a great time and the host treats you well.

I'm sure the weather will be fantastic for some golf too.

I'm sure you'll have a great time there. I love that casino. We rent a car each trip and we make at least 2 day trips each time we're out there. And don't forget Tuesdays you can see a$4 movie and then lunch in TGIF with your stub. That is if you favorite VP machine isn't too kind. I like their buffet too. If you eat as Salvatore's give us a review, I'm dying to eat there. They are the sister restaurant to Fellini's in the Stratosphere . When we were there in December I thought they have tues, wed, thurs 7x,11x,7x multipliers on points.

To paraphrase a famous quote, "Say it ain't so, Joe !"

We'll miss you at MSS, but now I will have my pick of "lucky" machine #1 or #2 at the Boar Bar. Maybe when Nancy and I go out to the Rampart on that Sunday, we could stop off at the SunCoast, and look you up.

We have eaten at the SunCoast many times ... buffet, cafe, mexican, deli ... all good.

Joe, I know we don't know each other but I have read plenty of your posts. This is a big move! MSS has been your home casino for a long time and you speak of it very fondly. Do Kelly and Jose know you are changing Casinos? They will miss you.

Joe-played angel park over super bowl trip....loved it but wished we has practiced putting in kitchen on tile floor prior. It is a very liberal-wide open landing area facility. We has a ball. Number 1 goes down Fairway with Sunvoast on the left. Thought how neat it would be to sit and sip watching the golfers trapse by. Good luck!!

Hey Joe - you know we think you made a good decision, and you can still take the WAX downtown from Suncoast, that's what we did last Friday. We just can't ever seem to make money at Suncoast, but have consistently at MSS! Suncoast remains our favorite place to stay, but that may have to end in favor of winning.

Good luck with the move! (Now at Orleans)

I always wondered how you could stay at one place considering you used to live there. I rent a car so I casino hop. I have to get my whole Vegas fix. I will visit you if we are ever in town at the same time.

    Joe -
    I've never been to Suncoast.
I didn't realize Angel Park was across the street ?
How much are the "out-of-state" Green Fees ?
    *
With a public golf course right across the street ---
    I would consider staying there.
    How's the pool area ?
    *
Let me know about the VP paytables !
    Good luck
    Joe S.

A couple of reasons. First, when you live there it doesn't take long to decide which casinos you like and which you don't. Santa Fe & Alliante were the closest to our house, but after a few months, we just didn't care for them, so we drove further to find places we did like, Suncoast was one of them. That being said, neither of us have won crap at Suncoast, but we do like the employees and their attitudes and winning is just around the corner, right?:evillaugh

At MSS, we have won a lot. Not saying most of it didn't eventually end up back in their cage, but winning feels good.

We just feel it's time for a change. I'm not saying that come Oct, we won't be back at MSS, but we are just testing the waters. Airfares are so high right now, I'm not sure we are flying anywhere again this year. $1,100 for two to fly to Seattle in July. I'm not booking that yet!:poke:

Good for you, Joe. I can't think of many things I've done for 14 straight years; never lived in one place that long let alone in the same abode, never held the same job that long though this one is getting close. Guess Terri's been stuck with me for longer than 14 straight however. lol

I'm a Suncoast fan. Big rooms and the course view is a bonus; beats looking down at the the mechanicals on the roof of the casino. Good array of eats. Golf all around as you've surmised. I think you've made a good call. Enjoy!

Last March my friend and his wife were staying at the Suncoast and I was staying at the Fremont Downtown. I was on a solo trip so I hung out with them every day. I got to see their room at Suncoast and they had a view of the golf course. It was very scenic and relaxing. I liked the casino but honestly, they all started to look the same after a while. I swear it looked like the Orleans, lol!

It sounds like MSS did nothing wrong and you just want to try somewhere else out. I'm all for this for anyone and truly hope you find something special at the Suncoast. I have no doubt you will be making a lot of comparisons back to what you had, so hopefully it doesn't taint the experience too much.

I'm nowhere near 14 years at MSS and not overhalfway to 14 years going to Vegas. I do wonder what the first place I just get fed up with and want to move on. I'm glad it hasn't happened yet. I'm not sure if part of that is because it is rare that I stay at the same place 3 times in a row.

I wish you well at Suncoast. I can't imagine staying just at once place so to me you are unique. I always hope everyone finds enjoyment in Vegas.

I hope you folks have a blast out there! Some of my LV visits find me going directly from the airport out to that area and spending the day there. I feel like I'm in a totally different city. I travel up and down Paradise, Swenson, Main St. and the like so much that sometimes I feel like the whole town pushes shopping-carts with their belongings in them!

    Joe,

Looks like I will miss you by a couple days. Our plan is to drive out starting 3/13 and go home after GT's cousin leaves 4/8 but that could change if I'm still in town I will look for you at Suncoast.

I am really looking forward to it. I can't say I don't get excited about all my Vegas trips, but this will be different and I'm looking forward to trying a new place. Our last big move was leaving the Stardust and moving to MSS.

Ive stayed at one hotel 3-4 times in a row so I cant imagine 14! It would start to get stale for me as well, but right now I have been happey at the Plaza and dont see us going anywhere for awhile! I just like being able to go into the other casinos, whether its the D or 4Q or Binions. I just enjoy the area , not sure I could limit myself to one casino like that! I hope you have fun, something different is always good regardless!

The funny part is...I've been to MSS a few times now (like 6 or 7?) and I was really bored with it...but for some reason, I've got a new excitement for it and can't WAIT to get back!
