Seeing as I have 30 hours 49 minutes and 41 seconds until I land at McCarran I was wondering if anybody else actually procrastinates like me? I still have to go work a 9 hour shift and get out at Midnight and then I guess I can finally start packing. (Well technically I think I started to prepare, I'm actually charging all electronic devices that are going along!)

Do you procrastinate and wait until the last minute? Do you pack light? Are you prepared weeks in advance or maybe you never even emptied your suitcase from the last trip and are just ready to take that along. Maybe you just take what you're wearing and buy everything out there. I, unfortunately, am taking 3 suitcases (as I tend to buy stuff so I need room to lug it back).

Am I alone as a last minute person?

We always go for a week on each trip, and have learned to pack conservatively ... which we do the night before we head to the airport. My wife and I each pack a 22" carry-on , and she also takes a large purse, and I bring my briefcase. Easy packing, easy on, and easy off ....

For a weekend or 3 day trip, which is usually what I do, I pack the night before: a suit and tie, nice shoes, comfy shoes, nice jeans, 2 collared shirts and 2 tee shirts, plus shorts and trunks if its summer. Usually any combo of that stuff works for whatever I need.

In addition, I always take a loaded cooler (yep I'm that guy walking through the casino with the cooler) and a few flasks. And my dugout too. :wink2:

I leave next Sat morn, and will start packing Sunday. I only work Wed-Thurs next week so its gonna be long week of waiting! I usually take a back pack for a carry on, food, electronics, magazines, etc then wife and I split a check in suitcase. She usually has a purse and small carry one as well, sometimes just purse! We try and pack pretty light for two people, would love to pack lighter and take everything on a carry on at some point though!

    Different Driving vs. Flying

....I pack differently depending on whether I am flying in or driving that's for sure.

If I drive I will take more stuff than I will probably need, just flinging stuff in that looks good is easy when not carrying stuff on. I take more clothes, bigger sound system, bigger lights, more room decorations. I'll bring a cooler, hiking gear, and pillows. I stop all the time and buy more crap from road side stands and attractions like the Little Ale I Inn in Rachel for example.

Flying in.....hardly take a thing that is big, small flat speaker, little lights, a silk tapestry, and thin layerable clothing. I can do it all in a small backpack and carry it on. I will generally wear my heavier clothes for the flight, sport coat, heavier shirt, tie, jeans, and hiking boots.....pack a dress shirt, slacks, a couple tees, dress shoes, and board shorts for the pool. I end up putting it under the seat more than in the overhead bins, seems easier trhan fighting for space with the roller bag pholks. Lots of ironing on arrival though.

I am not a fashion guy really (OK, at all), but a nice sport coat and a button up with a tie seems essential for evenings anywhere you go.......even though I may look lke Judge Smales from Caddyshack.

I have done a fair amount of traveling and if it a first or second world country I get my toiletries and anything heavy or bulky when I arrive. The advent of small eletronics, Ipads, cell phones, plate speakers has really lessened the bulk of past travels that's for sure.

I try to cut back on how much cat hair comes to Vegas with me by packing directly out of the dryer. I give everything a spin with a dryer sheet and put it directly in the luggage and close it up. Otherwise I look like the crazy cat lady who might have cats in her hotel room. Even with precautions, I still end up with cat hair. It's ridiculous. I only have 2 short hair cats.

I'm a total Type A when is comes to packing. I start about a week in advance - I have checklists going. Nothing gets forgotten lol :) I leave the suitcases open on the floor, fill them throughout the week with things I won't need until the trip, and check them off my list. I'm trying to downsize though - one or two pairs of sandals, instead of every pair of shoes I own  I'm getting better!

I pack about 3 nights before because what I will wear in Vegas is not necessarily something I would wear on a daily basis...so I can do it in advance. My husband on the other hand. He packs the night before....no wait - let me re-phrase that....he puts the clothes he wants to take on the bed about an hour before he goes to sleep the night before our flight and has ME stay up late to pack them! Argh.

We're driving from LA usually for just 2-4 nights. We are often leaving first thing in the morning to get on the road, so we usually pack the night before. My toiletries are already packed since I just throw the same bag I use for the gym every morning into my suitcase. We just throw a few pairs of jeans, nice shirts, t-shirts, hoodie and nice shoes into our full size suitecases and fill the rest with a spare pillow. That way, we always have a good pillow no matter where we stay.

    I don't need a lot so I don't bring a lot.
I pack about 20-40 minutes before I leave my house

Husband is an efficient packer. Usually days before a trip.
Me? Last minute procrastinator. Kind of proud of it too,
as I'm always ready and on time for our trips.

I bring the suitcase(s) up from the basement 1 week before. If going with my husband.. I pack more as he is an elite flyer and checked bags are not extra. If flying by myself I pack carry on. That takes more planning. I put everything I want to take out on the bed in the spare room.. and then go in each night and pull something out. I do make a list to make sure I don't forget charges, toiletries etc.

I have gotten better the past few years. Suitcases will come out 20 days before. My trip is 65? Days away and my bathroom bags are already packed..packing list printed and in the bedroom. A pile in the computer room has started to grow...printouts, players cards, camera, headphones...My list is very detailed and kept on puter in Excel. Meds, carryon will get packed the week of....2 full size suitcases will be packed 2 days before. Morning of departure the biggest issue is remembering the dh's electric razor and charger. We are going for 7 nights and since bags fly free with SW :) we do full size....I tend to come home with "extra" tshirts, sweatshirts so I don't overstuff going out.

When packing bring half the clothes and twice the money that you think you'll need.

Once I grabbed 3 pair underwear, 3 t shirts, a couple pair of socks threw them in duffle grabbed my wallet and passport and packed in under 3 minutes for a last-last minute trip to Vegas.

I keep a running list of things I want to take in my carry-on, check the TSA website about a week before I go for allowed carry-on items and start packing a few days before I go. I usually go for a week and always pack less shirts than I will need because I always get a few nice polo shirts with the casino logo where I stay.

Preplan all the outfits both day and night for a couple months ahead of time and then throw everything into your suitcase and add more clothes and shoes just in case you might need them and then pray you don't go over your 50 lb weight limit at the airport!! :peace:

I pack the night before my trip. Have toiletries prepacked in a zip lock bag that I use only for travelling and just casual clothes for my stay. Nothing fancy.... This coming trip I'll only be taking one small rolling bag. No plan to purchase lots of suvenirs for the grand kids this time as they already have Vegas sweatshirts and t-shirts.

Years ago, I used to pack days in advance and way overpack.

I now travel quite a bit and have learned to both streamline my packing and I do it later.

Mentally, I pack a few days in advance, thinking about what I'll need based on conditions and events, and then pack a day or so in advance.

If it's a domestic trip, I can get everything into a carry on, usually a duffle bag. I also have a backpack for iPad, noise-free headphones and charge wires and misc junk.

    My travel tips?

ROLL your clothes, do not fold and lay flat. Fold them, then roll then up. Takes less space and wrinkles less. You can fit way more by rolling your clothes.

Even though TSA says 3oz size in QT size ziploc, you can do a bit more if you keep bottle sizes still at 3oz, but use a gallon size ziploc and fold down some and hold all in place with rubber band. You get more room and more stuff, while in the x-ray, it all looks same as a QT size bag. BTW, I noticed most airports don't care about taking it out of your bag any longer.

Finally, lesson learned hard way, if you are checking a bag, ALWAYS have in what ever you're carrying on, a change of clothes, or at least, a change of socks, undies and a shirt, in the event your bags are lost. If lost, that'll get you through a day at least reasonably comfortable.

We are a month away & will get out our bags within 2 weeks to dust them off from storage. Hubby & I both have those huge, roll-around cases that we stress out over them possibly being over the max at the airport. I will start pulling out clothes to match up my outfits about a week before we leave and actually pack 2-3 days before T day. We both do a small carry on....backpack type with a few things & we can switch things there if we are at the limit. I'm ready to go now BUT.....MM here we come!!!

My packing is simple. Takes me a minimal amount of time.
Now prepping the house is another story. That takes more time than actually packing.
