I stayed at the old IP once and didn't like it all (except for the FANTASTIC cocktail waitresses). I was looking forward to the CET remodel and hoping for a nice, affordable option center strip. But it looks like the price is going way way up. I know "affordable" is relative. Maybe the new Quad will be worth every penny. Maybe. I guess we'll have to see what the rates end up being. If they can keep a basic room under $100 great.

I don't see the Quad ever being a legit 4 start hotel. Seems like it would cost way more money than they are pumping into it now.

True. It takes more than rooms to make it 4 star.

Agreed. I don't see how it is possible. A friend stayed there after it was re-branded as the Quad and I met him there one night. Tiny elevators, maze-like hallways to the rooms, and the room itself was on par with a low-end Holiday Inn. CET did a great job of trying to remake the casino and givi9ng it a much needed refresh, but I just don't see how its possible to turn a dump into a four star without a total tear down

Unfortunately they will jack and gouge until the market bucks and prices drop back down. There is a large amount of LV visitors that are "one and done", they will look at the online pics, great location and the inflated rating and flock to disappointment.

They can try. Let them pump some money into it and wear themselves out trying to gain that clientele and then watch the prices come back down. It won't be like the glory days of super cheap Capri rooms at the IP but it'll settle back down. And then keep in mind, it's CET, they announce stuff like this like it's going to happen next week.

The "star rating" itself has really lost a lot of its meaning since, as the article even mentions, its done by the individual travel websites itself. The original star rating system has much higher standards for 4-stars than most travel websites.

For instance on travel sites 4-stars runs from hotels like NYNY and South Point to hotels like Mandalay Bay.

But the original (some would say "official") guide to hotel star ratings is Forbes/Mobil guide which includes hotels like this as 4-stars in Vegas (which are mostly rated 5-stars on travel websites):

    ARIA Resort & Casino
    Bellagio
    Encore at Wynn Las Vegas
    Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas
    M Resort Spa Casino
    The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
The Laurel Collection by Caesars Palace
    The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino
The Signature at MGM Grand Las Vegas
    The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino
    Vdara Hotel & Spa
    Wynn Las Vegas

As others have said, I just don't see it working at this hotel. I'm glad they've done some much needed upgrades, but it's still nothing great. As the old saying goes, you can polish a turd, but in the end it's still a turd.

It seems like it's a race to make each new or revamped property as upscale as they can do.

I've stayed at the IP many times. My biggest gripe is the elevator situation. That will not work for the $200 room crowd! The rooms themselves are smaller than any of the higher-scale rooms around. It will take a lot of heavy construction to make them larger.

I just don't foresee the IP/Quad becoming any more upscale than, say, Bally's or Flamingo.

It can't become a Vdara, Bellagio, Aria, or Wynn. so no worries there.

Even the outside of it screams lower end. Not gonna happen.

I do believe the renos could command a higher price tho' but not by that much.

CET has no choice. They dominated the low end/low roller for years on the strip, NOT competing for the same clientele as Bellagio or Aria. Because they were inexpensive and gave out free rooms like it was candy. But that changed when they added $25/night resort fee to their hotels and boosted their cost to $50+++/night for the average joe. Those looking for deals now look downtown, or Boulder hwy, or south point/orleans etc. I know I'm one of them, countless times to Bally's, now we go downtown and the Orleans.

Now CET is stuck in a no man's land. They are not high end luxury props, they are no longer dirt cheap props. If they don't do something they will end up like Riviera, Circus Circus and dry up all together. So they made the decision to up their status and try to compete with the other side of the block. The Linq, Bally's, Bills, Casino Royale, Harrahs, and now Quad all going thru major upgrades to raise their stature.

The strip will no longer be a draw for the gambler, it will cater completely to night club/night life/entertainment and high end luxury. There will still be gaming, just expensive gaming.

Keeping in mind, Vegas is branding itself as a luxury destination in a lot of ways. New hotels in the past 5 years have raised the bar in terms of room quality and what the designers feel people are looking for.

CET is competing against MGM who did an extensive remodel cross properties over the past 5 years. So much so that the CET brand is not competing head to head in room categories anymore and they are desperately trying to raise income to cover that monstrous debt load.

I think the 4 Star description is more hype than reality. The Quad will never compete against Mbay, MGM, or Mirage. But they are competing head to head against Luxor, Excalibur, and Monte Carlo. Now throw in the Plaza and Downtown Grand with trendy new rooms. CET has no choice to re-invest heavy in the rooms and do as much self hype as possible.

At the end of the day people will only pay what the market will bear, no matter how CET hypes a 4 star rating for an aged property. Its clear however CET is targeting the Quad at a 20 something segment now and plans to leverage The Cromwell dayclub to help pull people to that area of the strip. They need a room product here to overcome the crappy Quad pool facility to fend off the MGM neighbors. Don't expect $30 rates to ever return, but I doubt you will see the Quad command Mirage level rates here either.

Sorry but $50+ is what they should have been for quite some time.

An La Quinta in southern MD cost more than $50 a night.

I remember I could have booked The Quad for $225 for 7 days one time with no comps. Come on.

Habitual Vegas goers have simply been spoiled for years.

    I find $70 a night for a decent hotel room.....normal.

Free/cheap rooms and free/cheap food has and continues to be the draw for the Vegas regular. The strip wants the wide eyed tourist.

Those who never pay for rooms don't want to start forking over $500 in hotel costs for a 4 night stay. That money (in their eyes) was for their gambling.

My co worker went there last week and he hated it there. He said it wasn't worth the money.

Vegas hotel rates have always been below the industry norm, from top to bottom. It's still that way but the bottom keeps rising.

The Quad will be a 4 star resort only after the application of large quantities of dynamite.
