Sadly I could not make my annual march madness trip this year

My friends are all low on cash and the GF doesnt have any time off work to use until late April.

With that said April 30th here we go... what are some good recommendations for places to stay?

I'm an MLife member but my comps are never good....

I guess some of my preferences would be:

    Nice Pool (for her)
    Good location (central strip)
    Younger Vibe
    Solid Restaurants
Decent book (May bet some NBA Playoffs - Go Pacers)
Good Bar/Club recommendations - I dont care too much for the fist pumping insanity but still a place with a great vibe and upbeat would be fun.. I usually get stuck at the tables and she really wants bars/clubs so I have to hit them up

I've been 4 times now but still always looking for pointers :)

    Thanks!!

I would consider Planet Hollywood. It's in the heart of the action, younger crowd, good restaurants throughout miracle mile, all of the hottest clubs and lounges are close by. I've always liked the vibe there being a younger guy myself (25), makes losing more tolerable :)

I've actually never stayed there but I always spend a considerable amount of time there. But seems like others have liked the rooms. I have stayed at TI a few times and personally think those rooms rock. I like the vibe there also. Nice pool, solid nightlife, tram to mirage, good food options, party bars, yeah that's definitely another option lol.

PH rooms are very nice. I like the property and the location.

Even if you don't have any offers or comps based on your play if you log into your MLife account and look at rates you'll get better rates than if you check the website without logging in. Same with Total Rewards.

Where have you stayed the other 4 times?

    sorry if this posts twice

First trip was hard rock - fun but off the strip
second was riviera (no thanks) and one night at MGM
third and fourth were at MGM

I really want to try something else besides MGM, I'd like the central strip atmosphere, MGM does have a great pool though. My MLife offers are all pretty lame, even though i hit the second tier of membership, guess that doesnt mean much. I have a couple nights at Lux/Excal I believe and one night at MGM - thats where i do 99.9% of my gambling. Total rewards doesnt have any offers for me really... only gambling I did there last trip was lost about $300 in 20 minutes of BJ, may not have even had time to be rated LOL

If your mLife offers are that weak. I'm assuming you checked online. For most members it's the same thing.

Try calling mLife services. They usually have many different things available. Including waaayyyyy better discounts.

I got discounts that were twice as much as the website plus a better offer.

    Good Luck!!

The rates for PH on my total rewards site are AWFUL I mean I could stay at Cosmo for way less? Why would it be so high for a Wednesday-Saturday trip??

I'd recommend Elara. It's attached to PH, in the Miracle Mile shops. Not too bad of a walk to the strip and easy access to the casino at PH. Definitely a fun, young vibe at the restaurants/bar nearby. The hotel itself seems to attract a younger crowd. The price isn't too bad either. The rooms are all one step above your average hotel room (all have a kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave, and dishwasher.) I've always been upgraded for free there too. The pool isn't as big as some of the resorts, but it's never crowded, even when we were there last memorial day weekend. I've never had trouble finding a chair. They don't charge a resort fee either :)

Put this code is the "corporate rate" box when booking: N0041604. It will give you the best rate. I've used it on 3 different reservations, with no problems, and have always been given an additional upgrade on top of the discounted price.

I was a little skeptical the first time we booked it, because it isn't a casino and it's in Miracle Mile - but I'm definitely a loyal customer now. It's not far into Miracle Mile, so the walk is actually less than what you'll get in a casino property. and like I said, it's got easy access to PH.

    Have fun!!

Cosmo way less than PH? The Cosmo has the EDS show during that time (3,000 people) but nothing special going on at PH. There's a fight at the MGM on the 4th but you're leaving then.

I thought the fights were on Saturdays which is the 3rd of May?

If the price is comparable I'd go Aria over PH. Stayed at PH and the rooms to me are dark and small. Aria for that time frame on my player's card which has zilch on it $181/night for a deluxe room. Pools are very nice at Aria with lots of room. Loved it there when we went MDW 2011.

I'd also look at Monte Carlo as the pool is very solid and wife with her gf's loves the lazy river there. Strip View is $120/night, Monaco Suite $148 per night, Spa Suite $170 per night. MDW 2012 here.

I hear and read Vdara is very nice $153 for the deluxe suite for that time.

Have you tried the employee/family link fo TR?

    http://www.harrahs.com/vegasvacation/

Need to go into each one individually and then exit then re-enter for the next hotel. If you just change the hotel on the page it will not give you the lowest cost. Just discovered that the other day when looking at room costs for the summer.

    Just some options.

You're right the fight is May 3. It's also Cinco de mayo weekend, quite busy.

his very first criteria was good pool. PH has the worst pool on the strip.

Try Flamingo, you are steps away from Mirage and Caesars (great book) and have the best pool on the strip in your back yard!

Yes, he cleared that up in the reply following my next post. Flamingos pool is great but I don't know how you can really hit his other wants and needs on that property. Nice room? Yeah if you purchase an upgrade... and like you said "steps away" from everything... in other words nothing at your home base except the pool. Just my 2 cents.

I still think all around TI is worth looking into.

We use to go that week and stopped. The first sat in May is always Kentucky Derby, fight at the MGM and cinqo de Mayo celebrations. Really boosts the room rates. People start coming in the thurs before. We are doing the 3rd week of April this year. I have been watching rates for months and IMO April and May are both higher this year than in the past. Gambling revenues may be down but the conventions are on the upswing. I look at the room rate calendars before picking my week every year...as I said April/May this year are higher.

Thanks for all the tips everyone.... I don't get why my rate is high as I am not staying that Saturday? I guess that Friday night is expensive as so many people are flying in.

I'm going to have to price out some places and see what I can do.. PH looks like it'll be around $500 and some change. I can do Aria for relatively the same price. If Cosmo extends its current promotions I should be able to do three nights there for around $560. Those are all close enough to where it won't really matter.

How is the Cosmo Pool? I know she loves it there.

Great advise but just to mention I was going to book the first few weekends in May and pricing was crazy until the weekend after Memorial Day

I recommend the Mirage. It has a great pool with a young vibe and is center strip. Being an MLife member may get you a decent rate.
