So it looks like I might have to rebook my flight and leave/arrive a week later than planned.
Looking at the prices was a nice surprise as they are all relatively cheap for somebody who can't get them comped.

It will be my first trip to Las Vegas so I would like to be mid strip,
however Bally's is a little pricey for me now and since there is a construction site that kinda blocks the walk I might go for something else.

    Flamingo
    Harrahs
    Trop
    around 55$ per night

The Quad is 33$ per night.

LVH 23$ per night, pretty cheap.

    Bally's 72$, a bit steep now.

I'm trying to decide between Flamingo, Harrahs, Tropicana and The Quad,
what's important to me is cheap eats around and no long treks to the center.
Is Tropicana too far out for that?
Cleanliness is important, however since I'll mostly just crash it doesn't have to be squeaky.
Am I right in assuming Harrah's and Flamingo are comparable to Bally's?
Monte Carlo is 100$ so that's definitely out.

Hope you can help me decide, I've never been and I've read that most people dislike the Quad, but seeing how it's been renovated now it doesn't seem so bad.
Cheap is great because that means more gambling money. ;)
I would mostly play slots and just enjoy Vegas, so the best black jack games won't have to factor in.

Been to Quad (IP) and last year to Harrah's.......if I could get the Quad at Harrah's prices I would be there in a heart beat.....only problem I seen with the Quad is they have no Starbucks.....so I had to do the 5 minute walk over to Harrah's for my coffee.....

Quad has better BJ table rates ($5) and the Dealertainers are EXCELLENT.....(see Bet Midler).....and you are not allowed to smoke cigars at bars at Harrah's as of last year.....but you can at BJ tables...go figure.

Both the Quad and Harrah's are right next door........so take the best rate you can get and don't forget about the $18 per night resort fee each will steal from you daily....

Tropicana is out since you want mid-Strip. Don't bother with Quad yet, lip stick on pig until they get those rooms cleaned up a bit. Definitely let it be between Harrah's & Flamingo. I think people seem to have better luck with the standard rooms at Harrah's versus Flamingo but for all intents and purposes they are the same.

I am trying to come up with reasons for one or the other but honestly the pros and cons just balance out. Quicker access to the South strip from Flamingo's front door and easier access to Mirage and the north from Harrah's.

Harrah's is a little more laid back/classic, Flamingo is a little more lively/classic.

    I'd pick Flamingo.

It's pretty much center (more center would be Aria and PH) and smack dab next to the Linq.

You never said when you were going to do any comparison but I guess you plugged the dates in already so you know the prices.

Also when helps with the pools. Flamingo has a nice one. The Quad and Harrahs are boring rectangles.

Thank you all for the replies so far.
Dates would be Feb. 26 to Mar. 4
I think I will decide between Harrah's and Flamingo then.
Probably Flamingo as the hotel itself seems a bit quieter without carnival court and it probably has less foot traffic.

Aaaand suddenly all the prices are up 25$ without Resort Fee. Those swings are ridiculous.

We stay at Harrahs if we are on the strip - no frills, good location, clean rooms - a place to crash, generally decent rates (stupid resort fee is a ripoff though). I like the premium room in either of the towers. If in the Mardi Gras tower, I ask for the rooms away from the Carnival Court. Overall, I have had a pretty good time at Harrahs. The casino is fine and you're close to everything. I recommend the oyster bar and the Toby Keith place if you like live country music - good cover band at 9 or so each night.

Stayed at Harrah's, Flamingo and the Q. Of those 3, I prefer to stay at Harrah's, primarily because of location and proximity to where I like to play, I've stayed in the Mardi Gras tower twice and did not hear any noise from Carnival Court, although it is fun to hang around that area during the daytime to hear the bands. IMO, I found Harrah's rooms to be cleaner than Flamingo. Cheap eats are close by Harrah's with McDonalds close by as well as Subway, Cinnabon, a hot dog, and pizza place in Casino Royale. While Harrah's does not have a food court it does have a cafe, KGB, and Toby Keith's I love This Bar (good food!!)

I would take Trop anyday over Harrahs or Flamingo, and especially if it's the same price, but it is a bit far south and you mentioned "no long treks" and if that's the case perhaps Harrahs or Flamingo would be the choice for you. If I was forced to pick one over the other I would pick Flamingo for the pool. I haven't stayed at the Quad yet.

I say Flamingo or Harrahs, but a slight edge to Flamingo based on what you want.

Quad...I just can't fathom that place being actually tolerable. I know it has its fans. And, yes, I have spent a night there, last summer, actually.

Trop is too far south for you.

I've stayed at the Flamingo, Harrahs, and the Quad. My current obsession is the Quad, but I enjoyed the Flamingo Go room. Harrahs is very basic but clean. If the room matters, I'd stick with Flamingo. If its just a place to lay your head, the Quad or Harrahs is fine.

Keep in mind, the Quad are in the middle of room renovations. Some may be done, but most probably aren't. The rooms for me have always been clean but worn. I don't mind it since I hardly spend any time in it. I love the casino at the Quad most.

Try using the Promo Code "IFPYO"
With that it is showing the average cost at $60 a night for 6 nights. Of course that is before taxes and resort fee.

I haven't seen a picture yet from any renovated rooms at the Quad so I get the feeling that hasn't started yet - but I could be wrong! It will be an exciting day seeing fresh rooms and fresh carpeting.

A little renovation to the rooms and elevators turns it into a viable guys trip destination.

I still think it is worth a few extra bucks to stay at Harrah's or Flamingo though. Harrah's rooms are simple Holiday Inn type rooms with a little age. Flamingo GO rooms are fantastic in my opinion but the property does have a little grime to it as many mention. Harrah's does have the lower ceilings/smokier feel though. 6, 1/2 dozen or the other...both will suit you just fine if you don't have wild expectations.

Another vote for the Flamingo. Honestly though Harrah's and Flamingo are so close that it really doesn't matter much. I like the food court at Flamingo more than any fast food type options around Harrah's.

If it were me, I would consider the Quad as well, but I can understand why people don't like it. I've stayed there twice and I've been happy both times. I'm not picky about my room though. I want a bed to sleep in(in no way was it uncomfortable) and for the room to be clean(it was both times).

At ~$20/night extra, it would be a toss up for me. It would depend if that $60-$80 really mattered to my bankroll or not.

Good point on the lower ceilings and smokier atmosphere with Harrah's vs. Flamingo. I forget about that but always seem to notice it once you get away from the doors in Harrahs.

Harrah's also has a powder type scent in the air whereas Flamingo has the distinctive coconut/vanilla scent.

If you're going during pool season I would suggest the Flamingo. Actually I woudl suggest the Flamingo regardless.

If you are NOT going during pool season and IF the rooms are renovated at the Quad, then I might try that one.

We enjoy the Piano Bar at Harrah's but didn't like the few dealers that we met at that casino.

    "We" are 30 and 34 - brothers.

Thank you all for your input, I'm hoping I can actually go on my trip in 2014 as I had to postpone it again...
