Not being a beer drinker, I need some ideas of BOTTLE, not draught, beer to order when playing machines on the casino floor.

This is for afternoon play so I do not get too boozed up compared to my Ketel One's at night.

I also do not want to ask the CW to give me the laundry list of beer they have.

What I do know is I hate Lager's (Bud, Miller, Mich, Coors), but lean towards and enjoy the Ale's. Love Guinness because of its nitrogen base, instead of CO2 base that tends to bloat me up.

Anyway, most places will probably have BUD, Miller at most casinos, but can anyone recommend some Bottle Ale's that are commonly obtained on the Casino Floor?

Everyone's going to have their favorites; but assuming I'm not playing at MSS or Ellis Island (where ordering bottled beer should be illegal), I usually go for ale. I don't particularly like Newcastle, however. Unfortunately, most of the ales I do like aren't served in bottles on the casino floor with the exception of Gordon Biersch Marzen, which I've gotten at Boulder Station. Many places have Guinness, does that count? (I'm not even sure they're ales, so my apologies if not.)

I'll be watching this thread closely!

I've never thought to order Guinness on a casino floor. Is it usually in the bottle with the "rocket widget"? Because Guinness in the bottle without the widget is pretty much undrinkable.

Not a big fan of Newcastle either, but will enjoy it any day of the week over lager's. I'm not a beer drinker, but like the ale's for they just have better flavors to them.

And if it is one of the "more commonly available ones", that will work!

Read about IPA (at Quad), and will try a draught of that when at the VP bar. But when on the floor, for some reason, I want a bottle. :rolleyes2:

Totally undrinkable without the nitrogen capsule.. :vomit:

Guinness in the tall cans with the nitrogen capsule, crack open, and then
IMMEADITALLY poured into an ICE COLD GLASS, seems to be OK. Not as good as draught but it will work when I want some at home.

OK, so far.... New Castle Brown Ale is commonly available.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

If you're at home you should do this, but with the CANS with the widget. It's better than the bottle with the widget, and a million times better than the horrible non-widget Guinness.

But I was trying not to hijack your thread, which is why I was hoping someone could say if they had successfully gotten a bottle of Guinness with the rocket widget on the casino floor.

I'm a big fan of ales and they're usually my primary drink in Vegas.
Most casinos have one non-lager beer, and I find that if I ask the CW what ales they have, they'll start naming their Euro beers like Heineken or Stella. So what I usually ask is if they have any "dark" beers. The first answer is always Guinness, so then I have to pry a little more.

But I've found most casinos will usually have at least one of the following:

    • Newcastle
    • Fat Tire
    • Sierra Nevada Pale
    • Sam Adams
    • Bass

Sometimes you might find a Shiner Bock, Negra Modelo or Beck's Dark, but those are not nearly as common.

    Cheers!

I had no idea what the noise was coming from my Guinness bottle at the time, but it was obtained at a BJ table at the Eastside Cannery a couple years back.

The majority of places will at least have Sam Adams Boston Lager, which is a much fuller bodied beer than it's domestic Macro counterpart lagers (Bud-Miller-Coors). I find it to be more "Ale-like" than "Lager-like", and being pretty easy to find on the Strip, tend to order it often.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is my drink of choice though. It can be had at the nicer places like Aria, Bellagio, Caesars, V/P (and oddly TI).

Cosmo doesn't carry either, but they do have Deschute's Mirror Pond Pale and a Double IPA from Lagunitas.

Fat Tire, Newcastle, Stella, and others are widely available, but I don't order 'em (not a fan).

The lower end places like Harrahs, Casino Royale, Flamingo tend to have less of a chance of having any "craft beer" options. Corona, Heineken, Newcastle and maybe Guinness are about as good as it gets.

This is all regarding BOTTLES :drunk:, by the way. The options do open up quite a bit if you include draft beer (on tap), but that's another topic in it's own.

And to be clear, I'm by no means ripping on Bud, Miller and Coors (or their consumers). Everyone has their own taste in beer, and mine just happens to be of the heavier, more flavorful craft beer options. This explosion in craft breweries has been awesome! But Domestic Macro Breweries (and fans) deserve, and have my respect as well. Just 'cause I like craft beer, doesn't make me a "beer snob", though I've known many!

    Cheers! :peace:

IIRC Cosmo has Fat Tire in bottles. Another good choice for bottled ales.

Cosmo has Lagunitas Maximus? Can you get that on the gaming floor? I'm tired of fat tire. Hell I'll take any Lagunitas over fat tire.

Great responses, and since I have read that someone else was really interested in the results, I have complied a list of what has been suggested.

    This is STRIP ONLY....

    ALE'S
    • New Castle Brown Ale (Widely Available)
    • Bass Ale (Widely Available)
    • Flat Tire (Widely Available)
    • Sierra Nevada Pale (Aria, Bellagio, Caesars, TI)
    • Fire Rock Pale Ale (Availability ?)
    • Lagunita's (Double?) IPA (Availability ?)
    • Lagunita's Maximus (Cosmo)
    • Lagunita's Luck 13 (Only in 22 oz bottles?)
    • Deschute's Mirror Pond Ale (Cosmo)

    DARK
    • Guinness (with Nitro Widget?) (Widely Available)
    • Beck's Dark (Rare)

    NONE ALE'S
    • Sam Adams Boston Lager
    • Shiner Bock
    • Negra Modelo
    • Stella

Last, a note about Guinness. It has to have the Nitrogen Widget in it, or forget it! Cans work the best if you IMMEADATLY pour the beer into a glass.
What you are accomplishing here is, by pouring, you are infusing all of the nitrogen throughout the contents.

In the case of the bottle, the reason it is not as good as the can version is:

The Nitro Widget is very small compared to the can = less nitrogen to infuse the contents. Also, if you drink it straight out of the bottle (or can), the nitrogen does not infuse the entire contents properly. I love Guinness, but because of that reason I will stay away from it unless I'm at the VP bar and get the Draught.

One beer I like to do as a "fun" drink is a BLACK & TAN. This is a draught beer where the bottom half is Ale (Usually BASS), and the top half is Guinness.
I like it, and one time I told the Bartender, can you make it the other way around (Ale on top, Guinness on bottom). '

I mentioned to him that I read somewhere, when drinking beer and progressing, to start with the lighter, then Lager's, to Ale's and finish with Dark Stouts.

So I said, doesn't it make sense the Guinness should be on the bottom? We started laughing and he was in the mood to experiment. So he started with a half filled glass of Guinness and tried to fill the top with ale.

FAIL, it doesn't work. The Ale is heavier than Guinness. So if you have a BLACK and TAN, there is some trivia for ya!

Last, for fun a giggles, I'm going out today to the local 1001 beer joint down the street and get a bottle of each on the ale's on the list. Then tonight, I'll have a taste test during the Big Game tonight. Glad I do not have to work tomorrow, for if I did, there would be no taste test tonight. Sounds like fun! Sounds like with all the mixing, it could lead to a serious hangover.

The things we do in the name of Science. Bar Science of Beer that is. :evillaugh

    Enjoy the List.

I see Shiner on a few of these lists - a few years ago at a blackjack table at Mirage I asked for Shiner Bock - the cw looked at me like my face had just turned purple. She had no idea what it was. Maybe it is more widely available now? I tend to steer towards Heniken or Corona on the casino floor, but I am more of a dark beer fan.

Has anyone seen San Diego beers like Stone or Green Flash on the strip?

    OCD side coming out here.
It Newcastle - as in from Newcastle. Not New Castle.

reasonable list though.. I'd love to see a lot of the craft brews available but I'm guessing that's too expensive for casinos to do.

although I think the Newcastle and Bass is brewed in the US - not imported...

if there was a place that did Timothy Taylors Landlord then I'd be there... all the time!!

I have not, would love too though!

I usually just go for a Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada when I am casino hopping. Its holds me over until I get to a place that has good beer on tap! I love the Fat Tire at Luxor, drank many of 'em playing VP last trip and that will be my first stop this Friday.
