Pretty sure that is in mandatory to change the linens between guests.

If you don't feel they have been changed or want to have peace of mind then you can call down to housekeeping and request a change. Throw a little tip the maid's way after she's done and you'll have the comfort knowing that they're fresh.

You seriously imagine that they might not change sheets between guests at Bellagio? C'mon.

I dont think you have anything to worry about. I dont believe any hotel in LV condones housekeeping not changing the linens.

Some of the nicest hotels around are the worst ones when it comes to cutting corners, and it has been proven many times. Do not EVER drink from a glass in a room, you would be amazed at what they are cleaned with. Some of the gringiest looking hotels were actually the cleanest so you really can't judge a book by it's cover. Some were the fault of the chain pushing as many rooms on a maid as they could and others were the fault of the person cleaning wanting to look good getting so many done. Hidden cameras tell a major story.

Changing sheets is mandatory, changing the bed linens is NOT. I worked in a hotel (not a housekeeper) and i was appalled that the under blanket was not changed between every guest. I knew the top ones weren't and rarely are at most places but i always thought changing the under one was a given. I always throw the top blanket off the bed soon as i get in the room.

Consider bringing a small portable black light. Identifies protein spills...

I stayed 245 nights in hotels last year. USA and Europe. Veteran travelers can identify many unsanitary conditions and request remediation. It's been a couple years since I went non-linear on someone over cleanliness and that was at Excalibur.

Inspect your room carefully, buy bottled water at a convenience store, introduce yourself to housekeeping and tip them (I leave $4 a day or more).

    Good luck!

Ohhhhh lord.... it'd be a cold day in hell before I spend time "investigating" my room with a small black light!!! More power to you folks... I'm there to have fun, not perform a health inspection!

OMG what a disgusting thread! I'm with smartone, close the eyes and pray those little bugs go away. Afraid if I actually seen them with the black light I'd pass out!

I never walk barefoot on the hotel room carpet either. If I don't wear my shoes it's either flip flops or socks.

I've stayed in my fair share of hotels and really never once thought about it being clean. I've never stayed anywhere that really made me question it, I guess..

But it's really nothing to obsessively worry about. If it looks dirty, call the front desk. If not, move on and enjoy your time in Vegas:drunk:

It also identifies a lot more than just that. This whole black light thing at hotels they like to do on the news every once in a while is just one of those shock stories with little substance in my opinion.

You know what else shows up under black lights? Bleaches, fabric softeners, dyes, lots of laundry detergents and any other fluorescent inorganic or organic substance in the world. And organic doesn't just mean bodily fluids, something like tonic water which has alkaloids is organic and glows under black light.

Unless you know how to analyze the different wavelengths of light bouncing back from these "stains" you can't say what they are. Most of the times they run these lights over sheets they see bluish or whitish stains that are likely inorganic, things like urine and semen are supposed to refract a yellowish or orange color. Since CSI taught people that anything showing up under a black light must be disgusting, you can always count on someone in the news trying to get some mileage out of it.

Imagine that a pair of 300 lb. hog farmers from Nebraska have been rolling around having sweaty, passionate sex on that bed for the previous week and you won't worry about bugs.

Damn. I try my best NOT to think about this every trip or hotel stay...
    Ignorance is bliss!

But now Im thinking about it.

Can you request a whole new bed set up, is that possible? I mean blankets, sheets, pillow cases? Ill tip them, of course, but is it allowed?

    +1

Look, people, there are some obvious, blatant things you want to worry about and have addressed -- like the GIANT cockroach we found skittering between the sheets at Orleans one time. (Housekeeping: "A cockroach? What do you want us to do about it?" Ken: "Well, call us demanding but a change of linens would be nice." Housekeeping: "So you want a new sheet?" Ken: "No, we want news sheets and pillowcases. And since you've shown such concern about your customers' satisfaction, just make it a whole new bedding ensemble and throw in the bathroom linens, too.")

Anyway, seriously? It's like the antiseptic obsession with soap. I'd venture to say that the average person has far more disgusting things going on at home and in their personal habits than they are likely to encounter in a hotel or restaurant.

I don't use a comforter, I wash my hands often and try not to touch my eyes or nose. That goes for home and away. Otherwise, common sense and denial work great for me!

I think that exposure to bugs build immunity....

LOL! Reminds me of a motel on Route 66 we stayed in Albuquerque decades ago when we went to the hot air balloon, sunrise ascension.

Checked in and looked like a decent, clean room. Got up in the middle of the night and turned on the lights. Roaches everywhere running for cover. We stayed one more night and slept with the lights on:poke:

It wouldn't happen today Ken2V, because I'm a senior and can afford better.. :wink2:

I saw a cockroach in my room at Orleans and when I tried to step on it, it put me in a half-nelson and threw me. The next time I saw it, it was driving down the hallway in a miniature Mustang, giving me the finger. Headed toward the Chocolate Shop, no doubt.

I was also bitten by fleas in The Orleans.

I saw a mouse in my room at Harrah's.

Watch out for those ice machines. They never clean them, anywhere. You may get deathly ill from some bacteria.

Pigeon poo in rooftop air conditioning condensers is suspected of causing Legionnaire's Disease.

Check regularly to find out which restaurants failed the Health Inspection. You will be shocked at some of the names on that list.

Coffee makers are never cleaned properly.

Don't use a bathroom glass unless it is wrapped in plastic.

Room service trays that lay in hotel hallways for days on end attract insects and vermin.

People piss in the pool by the hundreds.

And don't forget the ever present bed bug plague.

    Enjoy your vacation!!!! :wave::beer::eek::vomit:
