I like both, but if you need two beds in a room you'll need to book a tower room. The Cabanas only have one bed.

We love the Cabana suites. Its private. Has its own gym. free wifi, more security. Quieter, non-smoking from day 1, etc. The rooms are funky, but only have one bed.. My wife prefers the Cabana suites to most other rooms downtown (except the Rush Tower rooms at GN).

Only negative I could mention about the cabana rooms is they are very small.

Junior suites are a little larger than deluxe rooms, and have a king bed. Very comfy, quiet, and nice big bathroom. Don't expect a "room with a view," however....

The Junior and Super Suites aren't bad at all, and they have huge bathrooms.

cabanas are nice but being a smoker walking outside in cold weather for early smoke was a hassle.
GREAT if non smoker. Good security

If you need a bathtub, two queen beds, a view, or a slightly larger room, get a tower room. If none of those things matter, the Cabana Suites are vastly superior. Biggest downside is being across the street from the casino, but Ogden St. has very light traffic and it's at most a two-minute walk to where the Tower Room elevators are.

I have stayed at the Vintage Rooms and Tower. I prefer the tower, nice and roomy, desk, loveseat but Vintage room is clean and comfortable to and both are well maintained. EC also shuttles yo back to the hotel in their town car and has a Subway in the lobby as well as a great 24/hr café and a good steakhouse, the Flame. Friendly staff, it is a great deal and a good location,I think.

Can't go wrong with either. For actual sleeping, Cabana is better.

    Bed Bugs

if you smell what smells like cigarette smoke, it's bug spray. They've had a bed bug problem. They won't tell you that, but my wife has asthma and it caused her to have an asthma attack.

We switched rooms thinking someone had smoked in there in the first room (Tower) , but the other room was just as bad if not worse, so beware.

Maybe the Cabanas are better. Id try those first now.

I stayed there a year ago. I had reserved one of the bigger cabana suite rooms. We showed up and they stuck me in a tiny cabana suite room. It was like a cracker box.

We were put on the first floor. The place was clean, and the decor was cool. I have to say, to me the El Cortez casino is one of the most depressing places in Las Vegas. While we were there, the place had a decent crowd; very interesting clientele.

Now that I've stayed downtown, I probably won't do it again for a long time. However, I'm glad I did but I wish we would have stayed in one of the places directly on Fremont Street.

    Geeze Ben,
Just what I wanted to hear; I have reservations for the tower on Feb. 25 for 7 nights. I read your post and started itching! Actually I googled "Bed Bugs in Las Vegas" and got "reportbedbugs.com and the critters were reported in El Cortez, 4 Queens, and Golden Nugget....all downtown. There were plenty of hotels on the strip as well; it has little to do with room cost, or location. I guess you need to trust the hotel to remedy the situation.

In reading the complaint about bedbugs at EC, the poster stayed on the 6th floor. While I don't deny it can happen there or anywhere, they found nothing good to say about the hotel. Staff was indifferent, hotel was filthy, rundown yadda, yadda, yadda. I have stayed in the Vintage rooms and Tower rooms several times over the last few years, including the 6th floor of the towers. I found the rooms to be clean and very well maintained in both choices. The staff has always gone out of their way to their guests. I chose to pay the extra this year in the Towers for my stay because I enjoy the extra room.

I will be vigilent and check as we all should but I trust that while hotel owners do not want the publicity, they likewise do not want a multimillion dollar asset full of bugs either.

We stayed at the cabana suite a couple of years ago. It was the first time staying at the el. Just like you wanted to check it out. Big rooms with small fridge, big bathrooms with huge showers. Just my 2 cents worth.

I like both. Towers give you more space, but I personally would sacrifice the space and take the Cabana rooms. Aside from being more modern, they offer more quiet. I was awakened every night just by doors opening and closing in the Tower room. :ssst:
