    My Trip Report

Just got back last night. A play by play seems like overkill but I'll try to give back a little to the board since I get a lot of good info here.

Stayed the first night at MSS. Enjoyed their beers and played a few hands of VP. My friend even earned a scratch card ($2). Played a few hands of BJ at their double deck game then hit Fremont. Played at Golden Gate with their party girls for a while. Went over to The D. The music wasn't nearly as loud as has been reported here. I wouldn't have noticed it one way or the other but was expecting it to be overwhelming so I was paying attention. The minimums at The D were $10 (this was a Thurs night) and the girls weren't as cute at GG so we went back there where the mins were only $5.

My friends bailed on me and I wanted to gamble more so walked to El Co. Kind of drunk and late at night. Never felt unsafe but that doesn't mean I wasn't. Walked all the way back to MSS and as I entered the south doors some dude standing between the double doors says to me, very belligerently, "what are you looking at"? I hadn't even seen him until he said that. I cussed him out and kept moving. On the way to my room I saw a security guard wasting time with a bored dealer so I told him there was someone harassing the customers and pointed towards the door. Well, the dude was following me so I said, actually, there he is. I'm going to my room, you deal with him. The guy was not drunk or whatever, he was up to no good. I'm lucky he didn't try something as I walked in the door because, as I said, I didn't even see him until it was (would have been) too late.

    Other Fremont observations:

Spent about an hour in Glitter Gulch, as we do every year. There were actually a few cute girls scattered amongst the abundance of hags. And the harassment level was WAY down that night for a most welcome change. Made for a reasonably good time.

LVC. Ugh, what a dump. The 'party girls' needed to be fully clothed. These just aren't party girl material imo. The did have the party pit open at noon on Friday, unlike any place else though, so I got to give them credit for that. Hell, maybe it's 24 hours there.

I've wanted to try the Chicago Brewing company for years and still never have. However, this time two of my buddies did go there and walked right out. They said it was just a hole in the wall and full of cigar smoke and not appealing at all. (I realize it's a cigar bar). I think some things get built up on this board that really aren't worth the effort and end up being a disappointment to others. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming anyone for enjoying what they enjoy. If a spot is 'your' spot, it's got a special appeal to you that may not translate to others. I used to go to a local Hooters that others found deplorable...but it was 'my' spot.

Anyway, we moved to Flamingo for the next three nights. Have stayed there before. It's cheap. I had a decent view but the water wasn't very hot. The last morning it was downright cold.

I liked the renovations to the IP. We only walked through but it really looked much better. Enjoyed a dozen or so dollar Michs from CR, spent some time at Wynn, Bellagio, the Bellagio buffet, slices of pizza at Venetian. We do these every year and they all remain pretty much the same other than they moved our favorite bank of machines at Bellagio. But we found ones we liked even better so it was all good.

    Some new things we did:

Found a great place to watch the football games. Most places, we have found on previous trips, are so damn crowded you have to get there hours early. So we went to the new Twin Peaks, got there early, and had a great time. And while they had a good crowd for the games, there were still empty tables so arriving super early is not necessary. We went there Saturday and Sunday to watch football. (Almost all of my bets lost). Oh, and the girls working in there are half naked and they are all beautiful. As in, every single one is a 9 or 10.

I had some time to myself the last day and went to Palms in the morning. I had a match play and free play to use and made a small profit. I have been there before but it was years ago. The cocktail service was good. And this was a Monday morning. Seems like a lot of locals were in there but I still had a good time.

Got yelled at by a pit boss at Monte Carlo for not coloring up. I just wanted to take my stack of reds to the cage because I was in a hurry. So I ask why and she starts ordering me to put my chips back down on the table. So I put them back on the table ask why again, what am I doing wrong, is it a rule? (I just wanted an answer) and she gave me more shit and finally says to the dealer, just give him his chips back. So I took my stack or reds. I know they like you to color up but I didn't know I HAD to so I was just asking. I was not drunk or belligerent. She was just rude for no reason imo.

    General Observations:

The ‘characters’ on the strip bother me way more than is reasonable. I’m not sure why, but I really dislike their existence. Same thing with the other ‘entertainers’ (singers, three card monte, drummers). One legit reason for my dislike is that they clog up the sidewalks. But it goes beyond that. Maybe because they are relatively new and I don’t like change.

We started calling the walking bridges the ‘Bridge of Despair’. The dregs of humanity that plant themselves there are really pathetic. It got a little confusing at one point, I thought the 400 pound lady in the wheel chair might have been a ‘character’ working for tips, like maybe a villain from a James Bond movie. But my friends convinced me that no, she was just a vagrant. I think the problem is that she was not on the bridge, she was on the sidewalk. I thought it was characters/entertainers on the sidewalks, bums on the bridges. Society has much better options for these people so I don’t feel sorry for them.

We noticed that time share hawkers never ever ask a group of guys if we’re going to be there tomorrow night. Feeling left out, we started asking them if they were going to be there. It threw them for a loop a few times. I think a few of them thought we were interested in whatever they were selling and wanted to come back later to talk about it.

Finally had the Ellis Island steak special. Service was spotty but I guess the price was right. I won’t make an effort to return but if it happens it happens.

Had the ACG book. I did use a few of the coupons but that book seems more hassle than it’s worth (for me). But as long as they have a few match plays for places I already play anyway, I’ll keep buying it.

Most of my gambling sessions were small wins, with one large loss being the exception. Most of my football bets also lost (small losses though). I think I came out slightly behind but didn't track it closely enough to know for sure.

Glad you could use the info. It's a great place to watch games or just have a beer for that matter. And not only were the girls really good looking, they were friendly too. Unlike so many service workers in Vegas lately, they actually seem to realize they're working for tips. The better service they provide, the more money they make. I know we way overtipped just because our girls were very cool, not just hot. They were actually good waitresses too.

(I hate to overhype it - you can check out their facebook page and probably tell pretty quickly if it's a place you would enjoy or not)

I feel EXACTLY the same way about the characters on the strip! And, like you, they bother me immensely. Not only do they clog up the sidewalk, like we really needed more of THAT with all the slow pokes walking 4 deep, but I think they really detract from the real view... the strip. The bums and porn slappers never really bothered me, but the characters drive me insane.

Thanks for taking the time to write up your report, appreciated!

I'm not sure but I think $8 for a 22 ouncer. Didn't see any specials though we did get a free chips and queso coupon from the beer tub girl just outside the door. The other locations I've been to they always have Coors for $2 but of course they won't do that on the Vegas Strip. Six of us ate and had a couple beers and appetizers and the bill was $246 before tip (the menu says they add gratuity for parties of six or more but they didn't for us for some reason- fyi to keep an eye on that).

Their 'gimmick' (aside from the girls I guess) is to serve the beer at sub freezing temps and serve it in an ice cold mug. It will actually freeze a little (or a lot). That's fine for a Coors Light but if you are a beer guy like me and order something a little better (I think I had Sierra Nevada) it's too cold to enjoy it properly. Ask for a non freezing mug. The beer will still be plenty cold but won't ice up.

Thanks for the tip, I drink beer along the same lines as you do. I always try to make a dent in the Sierra Nevadas!

I found eight bucks for a ten ounce a bit much, considering they were selling pounders for two bucks across the hallway. If you have the money to burn then it's a great place to catch the game and other things...LOL

I hear you - but I'm thinking for those "other things", and the fact it keeps me out of a casino for a while - $8 is very cheap...

+1 on the Twin Peaks. Had a great time watching football there in September. My friend couldn't stop raving about how our waitress was the hottest girl he's ever seen. Two "house brews" the Dirty Blonde and the Knotty Brunette. I for one loved getting the frosty ice cold knotty brunette slightly frozen on top... It was great In the 90+ temps

I feel the same way about those characters on the strip. The problem is they have no talent. I see street performers in other cities and they are usually good to great - but all the ones I've seen in Vegas have zero talent and to top it off they bother you for money. The ones in other cities who have talent almost never do that.

Vegas police doesn't do anything about them either. They don't need permits and as long as they don't harass anyone they leave them alone.

If you ever watch that Vegas Strip police show you see scenes of the Vegas police telling street performers they have to play if they want to hang out on the bridges. So the guy will just pick up his guitar and start strumming some garbage and they leave him alone.

The street performers in Vegas are just bums and lowlifes masquerading as performers.

Love your comment about the time share folks. I would've loved to see their faces! Twin Peaks sounds interesting. Will have to check out their site. Still have not decided on a place to watch the game or even if we will stay still for that long. Thanks for an amusing report.

I've walked in that door at MSS probably 3 hundred times if not more and have never had or seen a problem of any kind. That said, just up the street at the plaza a few hundred feet away or across the street at the Vegas club I've seen some people I don't really feel like messing with. It's not that I'm physically scared of them, it's just I've got nothing to gain and everything to lose by getting into it with them and THEYVE got nothing to lose and something to gain by getting into it with me or other visitors, if you know what I mean......

I've walked through those doors a bunch of time myself, and all over Fremont street for that matter, and never had a problem either. It only takes one time. Some low life could be lurking anywhere.

"The music wasn't nearly as loud as has been reported here."

Maybe they listened to complaints and turned it DOWN! LOL

    Nice report!
