I have come to the conclusion the Come Line bets are a waste of money. My new favorite way (using an iPhone app) is Pass Line minimum with full odds, Place bet inside numbers, unless one of them is the Point and, just for fun if ahead, the hardway of the point. Also, press the Place bet one unit every two times it hits.

What do you think of this strategy?

The value in the come bet lies in the fact that you still win something if that dreaded 7 rolls. That's why I still play it whenever I bet the pass.

And you can place odds on the come bet...sooooo more chances to get paid true odds...

Not sure why you [the OP] think its a waste of money...its a better bet than hardways

Your strategy is fine, as good as most others. But if you're willing to bet the pass line with full odds, why would you be unhappy about making a come bet? They are IDENTICAL. They just get paid off at different times and on different numbers.

The dice do not know if the puck is ON or OFF.

Breeze...I pretty much play exactly like that... I don't always take the 5 and/or 9, but I'm usually out there with 3 place bets during every pass. (5,6,8) (6,8,9) (5,6,9) or (5,8,9). If it lasts long enough, I'll get out there on the 4 & 10.

This is exactly how I play except for the hardway bet. I used to be a come better and I know it's technically a better way to bet but I don't like it.

It's hard to bet the come...because the HUGE advantage is winning on a "7"...but if a "7" rolls, then your passline bet LOSES...so it's kinda a moot point.
For me, what works best, is:
    Minimum Pass + 3/4/5
    Place 6/8
Buy 4/10 for $25 (if they charge $1 vig on the win)

This action keeps the HE down below 1.5%

if your place bet would have been a come bet and it hit you would have won more if you had odds.

so if you plan on pressing and adding money every couple times it hits it seems to make sense to choose the better payout. just a thought.

While this is true, you can choose your place bet, but you can't choose your come bet point. If he wants to place the 6 and 8, under your system, he could get screwed into a 4 & 10 with 2 come bets. While this would pay much more (with a higher risk) than the 6 & 8, it hit much less often, meaning fewer presses anyways.

Good arguments all around. Which is what make Craps the most fascinating game in the casino. So many ways to play.

Note that I only mess with hard ways if I am well ahead.

I would suggest and it is probably is flawed, but when you "place" the 6 for example; and compare to a come bet where a 6 becomes your number---1) you have placed more money in jeopardy (as you are usually placing more than one number which is more total $'s than the come bet) for the dreaded "7 out!". But, 2) you collect when the first 6 is rolled from the place bet and if fortunate enough to have the come bet win (a second 6 is rolled) you collect again on the place bet (7:6 two times and 6:5 one time).

So (whether right or wrong) I feel better about collecting twice on the place bet rather than once on the come bet even though individually the come bet is going to pay me more.

Also it bothers me to lose my initial bet when a seven comes out and my odds are returned to me....

I used to bet pass line and place the 6 and 8, but too many sessions over a few years worth of trips getting schmeissed forced me to consider using two come bets instead and I've been much happier since.

It's good insurance against the quick seven, and it forces me to sometimes have a bet on the 5 and 9 which I used to hate, because when I'd roll I'd always be on the 6 and 8 and always roll a gazillion 5s and 9s.

After come-out number is established I place the 6 and 8. Then do 2 come bets after that. If a 6 or 8 is rolled I use the winnings of the place bet for odds on the come bet that replaced it.

Works for me. Sometimes... lol!

The come bet is a bit of a hedge bet. It also helps to identify and cash in on trends. Remember, you can't force the dice to show the numbers you place bet. If a long hand shows, convert your come bets to place bets instead of coming down off the number. Better yet, ask the pit if they will allow the Put bet. Above all, let the shooter qualify before you make any bets. 5 count or Hot Roll Finder methods work. The longer your bankroll lasts, the better chance you have of being there when the long hand shows. I'm convinced there is no other way to win in the long run. Even if the crazy crappers are cleaning up on prop bets, it won't last long and if you make those kinds of bets a habit, you will be panhandling before you know it. Learn how much and when to press bets. It's a great game that can be beat if your strategy is for a lifetime and not just for a particular session.

I disagree. Within the confines of bankroll limit and max bet the game cannot be beat (assuming no shooters with legit dice control). You can do things to take advantage of a good roll and guarantee that you have a winning session with a stop loss (when you were already up) but the more time you're at the table, the closer your realized loss percentage will get to the actual house advantage.

I get what you're saying, and if the only factor was mathematics, then it would be inarguable.

But math is not the only factor.
Lifespan is an important factor. So is the size of your bets when you win and when you lose.

The HA is math, based on a very-large number of events, with a very-large number of players, wagering various amounts over a given period of time.

For a single player, gambling at multiple sessions, at multiple tables and multiple casinos, wagering differing amounts, it is possible that he can be at a winning session more often than not...until he dies or quits gambling.
The HA will not be adversely impacted by this, as this player's wins are off-set by higher-than-HA losses by other players.

Overall, the house will make it's 1% (or more, depending on the game).
For an individual player, they may win, they may lose the HA percentage, they may lose more (or less) than the HA, or they may break-even.
This concept is exactly why casinos still offer blackjack, even knowing that there are advantage players out there who have a mathematical edge over the casino. The basic, average house advantage for blackjack is 0.50%, give or take (assuming DD, 3:2, H17, DAS).
Most players - (and I mean the vast majority) - lose far more than 0.50%.
But a single basic strategy blackjack player (not a counter) might end his gambling career up on the casinos for blackjack.
Conversely, even an effective card-counter may end his gambling career down to the casinos for blackjack. How the cards fall when you have more or less wagered will impact that status more than the general HA.

    Thoughts anyone?

Any game can be beat if you consider beating it to be playing it one time, winning, and never playing again. Technically you "beat" the game but in terms of house advantage over the long term one session doesn't really mean much. Now, if you can consistently win every session with a proven method then I'd say you found a way to beat the game. The problem is the house has an advantage on every bet in craps (besides odds), and the longer you play the more likely you are going to lose money. There are going to be people out there who ended their first 20 sessions winners but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a result of their strategy as variance goes both ways.

All I'm saying is if it is a game that can be beat if your strategy is for a lifetime then let me know how because I'd love to quit my job and get paid to play craps all day drinking on the casino's dime :drunk:

Actually, the longer you are at the table (with your original session buy in only of course) the closer you are to experiencing the next long hand that occurs. If your strategy includes a sensible bet pressing method, you can certainly enjoy a big win. The problem most players have is they will not color up and exit the session until they have given their winnings back and more. That session win may be only a few hundred dollars or maybe a few thousand. My trips to Las Vegas have usually been for 5-6 days at a time and I have rarely come back a loser playing craps and blackjack. I don't claim to be getting rich, but I play to win and have no problem walking away from the table when I should. Your problem is that you have predetermined that you are going to lose and therefore you will see it through to that outcome. I love the excitement and atmosphere just like everyone, but I refuse to be just another loser bellying up to the table.

Sorry, playing craps all day drinking on the casino's dime is not a winning strategy.
