A friend of mine has one. I think it's overpriced. However, it's great being able to set temp from away.

That's not exclusive to Nest tho'.

I looked into it and decided to wait a while. Go to Amazon and read the reviews, there are apparently some issues with the second version. Lots of people complaining it turns on the heat and the ac at the same time. It's been a couple of months since I saw that, perhaps that issue has been resolved by now.

    Works great

Overpriced but works great. BTW, they were bought by Google today for ~$2.5 Billion.

Cant wait to see what they do with it.

Have one and love it. But like anything you buy, the value you get back will be proportional to what you put into it. Install it and set the temp and forget it, you won't think it was worth it. Read the manual, configure it, use the features and I think you'll be happy.

Nest are by far the sexiest of the home automation companies but they are never going to be cheap. The guy that started the company designed the iPod and has that premium quality mentality. The biggest surprise about Nest being bought by Google is that it wasn't Apple that purchased them.

    Don't do it!

My husband is a moderator of a DIY forum and he is CONSTANTLY seeing questions about problems with the Nest. Sure, get a programmable thermostat- they're great! But just get a normal one:peace: (If you want more info, PM me and I'll send you links to those questions - I don't have the site bookmarked so I'd have to ask my husband)

It was $3.2 billion, all cash and presumably an earn-out.

True but Google Ventures was one of its earliest and biggest backers.

Since Google just bought them, perhaps wait for the 3rd gen Nest?

I have one and it is great. No problems. I especially like the "Auto Learn" feature.

Is it overpriced? Probably. Does it save you money. Yes.

Do take the time to read the manual and go online for extra help and configure it the way you want it to work.

Its especially nice to be able to manually adjust the temperature or other settings from the comfort of the old Barco Lounger when I'm too lazy to get up and do it. :haha:
