Every year we get this great offer from Boyd for four nights free, and free tickets to the Sat & Sun Nascar races, plus the Friday qualifying, March 7-9.

It also includes transportation to and from the track.

But, we just have no interest. When we lived there we got them for two years and I gave them to my cousin who flies in every year for the race. He said the seats are excellent.

Have you ever been to a live race? With free, great seats I would try it once.

I was gonna say, kinda hard to know if you don't know, but you've obviously watched cars go around and around and around and around and around and ...

Live races ultimately are about the experience surrounding the event, not really the event. I've been to scads of road tracks because it is a type of racing I enjoy, but when you think about it you actually see far less of the racing that way. But ovals just bore me. Hell, the formulaic approach of racing -- and most notably NASCAR -- that thinks the NFL model of parity is a good thing just makes it even worse. Now the freakshow quality SURROUNDING some of these events, well, there is that.

Then again, I love golf, so wtf do I know?

At least it's not the NBA!!!

I am with you, Joe. I used to work 4:30 am -12:30 pm on sundays and would go home and turn on the NASCAR race and be asleep in 2 minutes.

I enjoy NASCAR, but the past few seasons have found myself watching the first 20 laps or so and the last 30-50 (depending on track size)... I just can't do the full 4 hour "bonanza" anymore. Hockey and Auto Racing are two-(2) sports that are just waaaaay better live than on TV, IMHO. But if you've been to Indy races, auto racing may just not be for you.... you have lots of company that's for sure.

I like the local short tracks, if you're close enough and most seats are, ya look down and ya got little chunks of rubber in your beer!!! Ahhhhhh.... life is good!

Either you ARE a NASCAR, auto racing or you are not. If you are not, don't even bother going to the races. I you don't understand the sport and the strategy, you will not enjoy it.

I have been a NASCAR fan all my life. I have been to a few races. But, to be honest, it is best watched on TV at home. The actual experience can be a hassle.

Give someone who is a fan the chance to see the races in person. Be a pal.

I am not a NASCAR guy at all. Years back my cousin went to school with a pit crew guy. My cousin had an extra ticket so invited me. We stayed at his buddy Johnnys condo just outside of Charlotte. At the time Johnny was a tuner for Joe Nemechek, not sure if hes still even racing, but he wasnt one of the big timers. Anyhow, we did the whole weekend thing and I actually enjoyed the experience around the event more that the race itself. They really took care of us, tours of the test tracks and garages where they built the cars, we even went to dinner the night before at some steakhouse where all the pit crew guys got together.

My point is even though I wasnt and I still am not a NASCAR guy, I enjoyed myself and it was a new experience. I would take them up on the offer Joe, give it a try!

    NASCAR strategy?

    Oh, I know:

Short-track strategy: Don't get wrecked. Win
    1.5ers strategy: Be Jimmy. Win.
Restrictor-plate strategy: Don't get wrecked. Win.

If you don't understand that there is strategy involved in NASCAR racing, you truly do not understand the sport.

    Rubbin' is racin'.
Everyone's gotta love one of the worst drivers.
Everyone's gotta hate one the nicest guy's in the sport.

We have a local dirt track that I pretty much grew up at. Grandpa, dad, uncle, and brother all raced there. It's pretty fun and you also get dirt in your beard, and eyes, and hair, and pretty much everywhere.

Obviously, I wouldn't recommend going to a race to anyone who has zero interest in it. But if you're curious about seeing a NASCAR race, you could do a lot worse than LVMS. It's a great place to watch a race and an absolute must-see for any diehard fan.

Plus, after the race is over, heading back to my free room at Encore beats the heck out of going back to the Motel 6 that cost me $299/night in Bristol!

Can't you just take the free rooms and give away or sell the race seats?

One big plus for not partaking of Nascar at Vegas is that getting in and out of there is a traffic nightmare.

If I didn't already have a Feb & April trip booked, that is exactly what I would have done.

I absolutely hate NASCAR. I pretty much dislike any sport that can't be watched on TV straight away and NASCAR fits that to a tee.

It's too long. If the race was 5 laps, every overtake would a mean a ton but I can't get up for a sport that's like 200-500 laps. I could only watch in bite-size increments.

I have this same problem with golf and even baseball. They are more "chill" sports to watch....kind of a casual affair.

Football and especially basketball and hockey make you pay attention all the time. Always eventful.

With all that being said, I'd go to a NASCAR race in a heartbeat. I like doing different stuff. Even tho' it would be impossible to pay attention to a whole race, that's not the type of affair it is....same as golf. Baseball is a tad different because it's just slow and can be uneventful until about the 7th.

If I ever got NASCAR tiks, I'm there. Ya gotta experience everything life has to offer (within reason). You might enjoy it.

In your case....it's a free offer!! Go for it!! Many times likes and dislike just come down to understanding intricacies of the sport.
I'd really like to go to an F1 race over a NASCAR.

Here's a view from a non Nascar fan. My wife and I attended about 7 years ago via a CET offer.
We received tickets, bus transportation, and invite to meet and greet with drivers. Having never attended I was amazed at the fan base and all the pre race events from partying outside track entrances, display cars, and merchandising.

The bus ride was long, but very comfortable with air conditioned motor coach, snack & drinks, and bathrooms. The tour buses were allowed to cross over a portion of Nellis AFB to the track to shorten trip. Seeing the traffic nightmare I would never want to have to drive on my own. I met other cet players on the bus ride and had some friendly conversations which made the trip pass quickly. We arrived on track about an hour before race time, plenty of time for pictures, browsing merchandise, and people watching. I was pretty intrigued by all the people who had headsets and scanners so they could listen to drivers and pit crews. About 20 minutes before race we made it to our seats which were midway up grandstand and to right of terrace. The view was fantastic, full visability of the track and pit row. One thing we did not realise was hot hot it gets up there, even for month of march. Light clothes, plenty of water, and sunscreen are a must!

Being at the race is a completely different experience. You feel the energy of the crowd, you hear the thunder of the vehicles go by, and you feel the vibration of the engines thru the stands as the cars zip past. I found watching the pit crews zoom thru their steps when a car pulled in amazing to watch. You see the intensity as they move to get a car back on the track. There were some minor accidents on track that raised the energy level as you realise how dangerous the sport is. One thing I found confusing sometimes was keeping track of leader. There were some moments of monotony when you had 20 laps of the same, which I just used for restroom breaks, food, or to get out of the sun. The level of excitement really rose when the checkered flag came out for last lap and drivers raced toward finish line. Especially since I held a few race wagers from the sportsbook.

Probally the only negative I found in the experience was fighting the throngs back to the motorcoach after the race. All and all my wife and I found it a fun experience and one I was glad to do
I would encourage you to try it once if you are offered tickets to the main race. You won't regret it.
