Has anyone tried betting on 2/3 column bets or dozen bets? These bets pay 2:1.

For example, you bet $100 on 1-12 and 13-24, risking $200. If you hit 1-24, you win $100.

The problem with the bet is that you are risking twice the amount. You have 24/38 covered on a 00 board.

Any way you slice it ... you are still "approx." a 5.26% underdog.

The 0 and 00 are roulette's house edge, if we briefly ignore that to keep the math simple: other then the "basket bet" all other wagers in roulette add up to the same return, with the magic number being 36.

So if you put a chip on a single number the number of spots covered is 1 and the return is 36. 1*36=36

If you put a chip on two numbers the number of spots covered is 2 and the return is 18. 2*18=36. A chip bet on 6 numbers returns 6. 6*6=36. And so on...

The same applies to the outside wagers: a chip bet on BLACK covers 18 numbers and returns twice your bet as winnings so that is 18*2=36. Note that when I am saying "RETURN" that is your wager back plus any winnings, not saying betting black pays double PLUS your bet back.

So if you bet on two columns, each of which is 12 numbers, you are covering 24 numbers, which is two thirds of the numbers on the wheel. The payback is 3/2 (you get 3 units back for each 2 units bet) so its: (3/2)*24=36

So every wager, other than that "basket bet" (which is betting on the first three numbers plus the 0 and 00) will return the same, its all about your risk/reward, aka volatility: the more numbers you cover the more likely you are to win but the lesser the reward... the fewer numbers you cover the less likely you are to win, but the greater the reward when you do.

I see a lot of people bet that way. I usually place a large bet on the 0/00 when they do. Seems like the greens hit a lot when no one wants them to.

Yeah, this bet doesn't change the HA at all. But when betting roulette, its a bet I like. I usually throw this bet out there a couple times when I am playing at the roulette table

I used to do this all the time, meaning the little bit of roulette I played would be equal bets on the first 2 columns. So I'd be risking 2 to win 1, only losing on 0 or any number divisible by 3. As others said the HA is the same, the probability of winning is just different. I would only play with other winnings and just for a few spins at a decent size. Hoping to win a few units quick. For the most part it sucked though and I would lose.

This is a descent roulette strategy, but like the other posters have already said, they all carry pretty much the same advantage for the house.

Another that I like to use is the double street, double corner, straight up strategy when playing inside.

What you need to do for this strategy is place 5 equal bets inside:

Two double street bets (edge of the board, covering 6 numbers each)

Two corner bets in the middle of four numbers

One bet straight up on any number not covered by your other bets. For this one, I either pick my lucky number or the last number rolled.

You are covering 21/38 possible outcomes like this. Make sure that you are not double covering any numbers. It should reduce much of the variance of the game, and if you happen to hit two straight up numbers fairly closely together, you make a nice little profit while exposing very little money.

    Good Luck!

Yes, most of them do... however, you will usually need to go to the high limit room to find it

MGM has it for $25 on the main floor. It's $50 at Aria.

My favorite old crap hole (that is no longer standing...) The Nevada Palace had single zero for $3 a spin!

    I LOVED that game.

On the 00 wheel all bets and combinations pay the same. 1/19 = 5.26 except the 0-00-1-2-3 which only pays 6-1 or 7.89.
Pick whatever number, color or combo fits your fancy, same odds regardless.
Also note the single 0 wheels have totally different layouts if one is superstitious.

I love to play like this until I get to The Paris... One day after watching the 3rd 12 come in about 5 times I thought it was time to jump on the 1st and 2nd 12. I think it went 35,32,00,28,00,0.........That cost me about 500.00 pretty quick!!!! Paris always kicks my butt...

I sometimes use this to hedge straight up bets...

Example: I will bet 17 and 20 and then the 13-24 column, so if I hit 17 or 20 I get a nice win...and if I hit anything in that column I break even. Makes the money last alittle longer

I will sometimes do a variation of this. I'll bet say $5 on one of the vertical columns, then another $5 on a horizontal column. So I'll have $5 on the 1-12, then another five on the column that starts at 3, and goes to 36. So there will be 16 numbers that can hit and I'll win $10 (for a net of $5), and 4 numbers that I would win $20. But there are 16 numbers where I'd lose both bets.

As mentioned earlier, the house has the 5.6%-ish advantage, no matter what you do. It's just another way to play. I once made about $150 doing this on a cruise once; I definitely got lucky in picking my thirds that day.

So everyone has told you the odds are the same all the way around the table - and they are right.

The key question you need to ask yourself once you understand that, is what type of gambler are you?

Some people like to try and accumulate by playing bets that pay out more often with small margins (red/black or odds/even at the bottom end) - they just like staying in the game longer and getting regular wins.

Others believe that roulette is one of the few casino games where a 35/1 payout on a number inside can generate a big collect on one spin which will beat the insidious effect of the 5.26% HA on a 0/00 wheel.

For me the inside numbers are the way to go - suits my personality as I'm not there to make or lose $50 after 8 hours at the table (although I have had that result and staggered happily away but I would have been up and down big $ at different times during those 8 hours).

Horses for courses though so do your own thing. Best game in the casino for me given the right crowd. Good luck

No. You're wagering $200 with the two bets. If one of the wagered regions wins then you win $200, but you also get to keep the $100 wager on the winning bet, so you walk away with $300 for that spin. That's $100 more than you wagered.

Yeah, I like to play the numbers straight up also. Same HA, but if I get a couple of quick hits I'll make a decent profit and walk. One way I like to do this is bet $5 straight up on five numbers that are adjacent to each other on the wheel.

Another fun thing to do is take a middle number, except 2 or 35, and place nine $5 bets on it: one straight up, four splits and four four number bets. I'll do this about twice a day, and if any part of it hits I'll at least break even, i.e. the corner bets, and if it hits straight up I'll have one helluva win. Sadly I've only hit it straight up twice..... :peace:

I play the thirds only when i play roulette. Most of the time I'll start with 100 and just play 10 dollar bets. If I win I'll press my winnings. If I hit it again ill press it again or cut it in half and take some of the winnings. Once I win 3 in a row I always cut the bet in half of what I have out there and my winnings. I've done pretty decent playing this way. I've came out ahead probably 4/5's of the time or only lost a 100. Most I've won in a night doing that was about 1500. Lost two 500 dollar hands in a row and was smart enough to get out of there.
