I'm heading out next weekend and was wondering what to expect in the sports books. I've been at least a dozen times during the regular season for NFL, but never a championship weekend.

Seems to me there would either be less people (since there are only two games vs 16) or there will be just as many people.

Has anyone been for the Championship weekend, and if so, where did you go and what did you experience? Would like to find a seat in a sports book somewhere (preferably Aria where I'm staying).

UPDATE: I posted an update in post 13 of this thread (just in case you're searching for the same information). I should have posted here instead.

I've been a bunch of times on AFC/NFC Sunday and it is crowded but managable. The books themselves are pretty full but people come and go. You would need to show up kind of early (maybe an hour pre-kick) to get a seat I think.

There's also a point late first game and between games where people who only care about the early game get up and leave. It's a long time to sit and watch all of both games.

I've enjoyed watching at casino bars, including outside the Aria book. It's not as lively as the book but pretty much everyone is into the game. I've also had fun at bars like Todd English, Holstein's (Cosmo) and Blondies (PH).

Thanks for reply. I was figuring it would crowded but didn't know how early I should arrive for a seat. Perhaps I'll just sit in a bar instead of the book.

I guess the only other choice is to hit up the LVH.

Heading out there myself next weekend with some buddies - it's become our annual trip the last 5 years or so. I'm not sure if it's because it's before the Super Bowl or just after CES, but that weekend always seems to be super cheap if you book a few months in advance. I agree with Rockinghorse - you won't find it too crowded, but if you want a seat you'll need to get there a bit early. In the past we've actually headed out to Sams Town because they have a cheap $23 Hold'em tournament every morning to kill time before the game. This year we're going to hit the Mirage - they just redid their book with this gorgeous 81-foot wide screen - if there's one thing I've noticed in recent years it's that casinos have been slow to replace their old projectors for some reason.

Yeah... I was at the Mirage in September for football Sunday. I had to get down there about 2 hours early to grab a seat. They turned on the air con halfway through the first games and it get so cold in the sports book that we had to leave during the second games. Bad drink service.

I've done Aria a few times, Lagasse's many times, Mirage many times, Caesars a few times, Sporting House (ESPN Zone then) once, and Wynn once... and I think that's about the extent of my football watching in Vegas.

I am staying downtown (Downtown Grand) the same weekend... Any suggestions on where to watch the games and drink/eat?

Unless they've redone things in the last year, I did not like Caesars at all. 2 of the projectors were washed out and had a weird vibe.

Note to every casino in Vegas: Get rid of the antiquated projectors and get video walls.

The sports book scene downtown is pretty bad - I'd suggest getting to one of the strip properties or someplace else. The sports book in The Plaza is actually newly renovated (3 years ago) and comfortable from what I remember, but not sure I'd recommend it.

The "sports book" at the The D (and I put it in quotes, because it's a joke) consists of about 4 50" TVs and a small desk to place bets and 5 or 6 uncomfortable chairs. Fine place to actually place a bet if you're staying there, though.

Yeah... I like their chairs and tables. I brought a small cooler with a case of bud light in it and sat there happily watching a full day of NFL football. The cooler is flexible and fit nicely in my carry-on. The ice I got at the hotel. Bud light was easy to obtain... we always take a limo from the airport and have the driver make a pit stop on the way to the hotel.

The AFC game will be at noon, NFC at 3:30 pm Vegas time. That means books will probably be most crowded early with Pats and Broncos fans. Things should clear up a lot for the NFC game

I have been going to las vegas for the last 15 years super bowl.. Stay the whole week. Last two years at the ventiton , they have a conferrence room party but the comp guys give out the tickets. Nice food spread and liquor and beer. Bet stations outside party room. A little boring but , something too do. I cant see spending 3 or 4 hundred for a so called party. i thought people make their own when I was going strong......

    Denver -5.0 over NE, o/u 55.0
    Seattle -3.5 over SF, o/u 39.5

    Broncos line opened at 6.5

My first thought is Denver & SF

Yeah, if the SF money line stays at +160, I'm all over it when I'm there. SF has been beaten so badly in Seattle the last 2 times, that the tide should turn. probably take the over on the Pats/Broncos game.

Just an update for anyone searching this thread in the coming years.

I got to the Aria sports book at 830AM for the 1230 game (NE at DEN) and it was already pretty packed. People were watching soccer. I'm not sure if they cleared out or not before the beginning of the football games, but I already had several seats reserved for me and my friends. There were definitely several Broncos and Pats fans already lining the seats trying to reserve them.

I actually thought the game was supposed to start at 1030AM, so it was a goof on my behalf, but a pretty fortunate goof. Not sure I would have gotten seats had I shown up only two hours early. I definitely wouldn't have scored 5 together.

Vegas was actually quite packed during the weekend with AVN and football fans.
