    Hey everyone.

It has been a few years since I've done a Summer trip. My buddies and I are thinking of going in late July or early August. We're planning four nights Thursday - Monday and are going to let the flight costs dictate the dates that we go.

I thought I would ask if anyone is aware of any events happening during those weeks that might compel us to pick a certain date.

Why do you like or dislike going during this time of year?

    Thank you for your input.

Yea it'll be 110 degrees haha. That's a major downside. But then I just don't go outside, and I'm not into the pool scene so I'm good with that.

On the weekends almost every big regular show should be on.

Are you trying to avoid big events/concerts, or do you want to attend one? It's a little early to know what's going on. None of the summer concerts have been announced yet.

Also before you buy airfare, I'd take a glance at room rates on something like SmarterVegas.com make sure it's not outrageous or something. You are going weekend nights, expect $150+ a night for a 4 star hotel (Mirage, Mandalay, MGM level).

obviously as others said it is extremely hot during that time. Try to pick a hotel that has a nice pool scene or that you are gonna have plenty of stuff to do. You really aren't gonna walk any further than 1 adjacent hotel and you definitely aren't gonna wanna go walk the length of the strip during the day. The last time we went in July or August we spent most of the time at our home base... we only walked the strip once and that was at night (and it was still hot as hell).

Along with flight costs determining dates, I would review the monthly rate calendars for a few hotels. That might swing things even more than flights.

I would consider picking a hotel that will minimize outside time, due to heat. For example, if you plan to gamble and play at Mirage, I would not stay at NYNY.

(okay, stupid example, but you get the point)

Personally, I enjoy going to Vegas in June or July. Is it a little hot? Sure, but not enough to deter me from walking around. I'll say this much, being there in June sure beats being there in December. I was there this past December and it was around 40-50 degrees during the day. Not exactly comfortable weather to walk around in. I much prefer being able to walk around in shorts and flip flops in June.

If you're not a big club person, I'd suggest going during the week. Check in on Monday, check out on Friday. You'll miss the big weekend crowds, have cheaper rates, and still be able to do everything you want to do. Plus, you'll have the rest of the weekend back at home to recover. Just me two cents.

April/May or October are my favorite months but I agree, I'd rather be there in the hottest months than in winter when it's 40-50.

LOVE - LOVE - LOVE our August trips! I'm a hot weather person and enjoy my morning pool time with a great foo-foo drink. Is it hot? You betcha but you always have a cold casino to pop into to cool down. Enjoy!!

Stayed at the Mirage last summer and it was definitely hot, but did not find it at all bothersome. Get in the pool or go inside if it's too hot. Drinks are expensive at the pool so you may consider doing your drinking in a cheaper venue. Also, drinks get hot quickly in the Vegas heat if you're at the pool.

Drinks are reasonably priced at the Flamingo - bucket of 5 beers for $25, and they always get more ice for your bucket if you ask!

Count me as another who likes July and August trips. If the heat doesn't bother you, you will have a great time. The strip is hoppin, the ladies are wearing practically nothing, I just love the summer time vibe.

Annual Vegas Star Trek convention at the Rio, July 31 - Aug 3rd. Must do at least once for any Trekkie/Trekker. One day passes are available if you just want a taste of a convention. I recommend either Sat or Sun if you do that as there's more scheduled guests and just a better atmosphere since its the weekend.
