I decided I needed to get my VP strategy tuned up for the next trip (on Sat Dec 28!) and got a copy of Linda Boyd's book, the Video Poker Edge.

First and foremost, if you are a VP beginner, or have just dabbled without learning any real strategy, this book is an excellent starting place.

You could start with no knowledge of VP at all and this book will tell you pretty much everything you need to know to get an excellent return on your play, certainly much better than slots.

For a more knowledgeable player, it has tips and info you can use and most importantly, it comes with some strategy cards that you can stitch out and take with you to the casino. They are some of the best ones I've used. They are simplified and put things in English instead of using all kinds of whacked symbols.

I really liked this book and have been using the strategies during practice for my trip. The real litmus test will be a) how do they work in the casino and b) will I be able to read them when I have had too many Lucky Heinekens.

    Royal,
I've read with interest you VP reviews, suggestions and tips.
Also am ordering the book you recommend.
I'll admit I'm a slot player but after reading all your info will try VP on
    my next trip.
Are the a lot of 9/6 VP machines downtown, since that's where I hang out.
I checked the list on the Plaza web site but didn't find any. Maybe the hide or put these in out of the way places.
I'm going to start staying at the Freemont because of it's central location and I love the Sigma Derby at the D, to me it's relaxing and enjoyable.
Thanks for your info and will welcome any help you can offer.
    Robert
ps: I will not be doing the zip line, too old and two hip replacements.

If you want 9/6 JoB downtown, go to Main Street Station or Four Queens.

If he likes to drink a lot, I'd suggest mss since the game exists at the bar. And with the scratch off for any quad, the game is near 100%. Just coming back from Tunica now, and Sams town has it at the bar there. No quads in about 500 hands, but still was up $40 due to tons of full houses/flushes. The game definitely lets you play a lot longer than most.
