I have a birthday celebration coming up in June and was thinking of staying at the Flamingo and coming with about 12 other people.

However, I've been looking at homes close to the strip running about 2K for 5 days, would house all of us, have card and pool tables, amazing pools and hot tubs (they all call them spas), and many are within walking distance of the strip.

    Has anyone done this?

Almost all the folks I'm going with have never been to Vegas and it seems staying in a home isn't a good start to the Vegas experience of coming out of your room and being in the thick of it.

The Flamingo isn't too high and sits right next to the Linq which should completely open by June. The Flamingo is my first choice but everyone's money isn't as loose as mine.

edit: I meant to say ISN'T a good start...

    Here are a few comments.

If it is a person's first trip to Vegas I think staying on the strip is a great experience.

Thinking back to my first trip there is no way in hell I would be sitting in a house playing pool. If a hot tub is that important some rooms do have hot tubs.

Define walking distance. Each day we make at least 3-4 trips to the room. Having to walk off strip to a house would be a HUGE inconvenience. Sure a cab can be used but that can get expensive.

Usually at night I stay at my home casino. This way it is a very short walk to my room (except when at MGM ) especially when the drinking starts. I wouldn't recommend walking off strip at night especially if in an inebriated state.

Depending on the dates you may actually be able to stay on the strip for the same or less. Also, depending upon how much gambling you do you could get your room and some food paid for well.

If it's their first time in Vegas then I recommend staying on the Strip as well. Check the Elara and see what their rates are for their 3 bedroom suite.

I checked and that's over $800 per night.

Ouch! Well if you split it between 12 people it's not that bad of a deal considering you're probably not going to be inside the room much? Have you taken a look at what they're charging for the 4BR suite? I recommend contacting the Sales Mgr and see what kind of deal they can get you. I'm not sure how well they sell those suites, but if they're usually empty then I can see them cutting you a decent discount.

I'd still stick with being on the Strip than getting a house, even if it's a few blocks away. The cost of getting a taxi and the fact that you're a few blocks away can get annoying after awhile.

Yeah I'd rather be on the strip. The Flamingo is right next to the Linq and is better than the Quad. Oddly enough the Quad costs about the same on more.

I like getting downstairs and BAM, casino then BAM the strip.

My opinon - no way in hell would I want to be off strip in a house, no matter how nice. This is Vegas. I want to get off the elevator and be in VEGAS. If I am going to walk anywhere, it is to the next casino or two. Not down some side street leaving the strip behind.

As to getting some big suite, I think you will find that will get expensive. Pick a hotel or two, and let folks book their rooms. Some will be happy jamming 4 to a room. Some will want their own room. Let THEM decide.

Flamingo would normally be towards the lower end of cost. Loose money would lean more towards Caesars, Bellagio, etc. First time visitors would normally be happy with Harrahs, Flamingo, Ballys, Paris, P-Ho. All depends on current rates, which move around DAILY.

Yeah I've stayed at Vdara, Aria, MGM Grand, Riviera and hitched a night in Cosmo. I'm picking Flamingo because I want everyone in the same hotel, it's cheap, not too bad, and is in the thick of it.

I normally wouldn't stay there. My choice would be Cosmo if everyone was cool.

Paris and PH are not cheap.

I love renting an apartment when I travel. I love to shop at local markets and stay in residential neighborhoods when we travel overseas, and for big family trips, something like a house on the beach is one of the best things in the world for comfort, ease, and cost savings.

That said - for newbies in Vegas? No way:peace:

An exception might be for a bachelor party where golfing and other non-casino activities might be a focus.....

Also when you score a hooker it is better to say "Walk with me to my room upstairs." as opposed to "Walk with me back to my house." :wink2:

IMHO I think you would be doing the newbies a dis-service by renting a house. I would want them to have the "Vegas" experience within their means on the strip. We usually have 2 or 3 newbies on our trips that will have 10-16 people going annually.

I agree with a previous poster re getting 2 hotels prices and letting them decide. Personally I would show Aria, Monte Carlo and Flamingo. All 3 have great pools, you will be there in June, and it educates them on the price variance that personally would be within a good budgeted trip.

Have you tried the Employee rates link to all of the CET properties? You may be able to get a lower overall cost and can get up to 4 rooms.
