I'm leaving Saturday for a quick 24 hours in Vegas on my way to LA. I've been close to 20 times (over about 6 years), but will have another person with me that has never been and I'm serving as a tour guide of sorts. I'll admit, since I've been so many times I kind of get into a 'rut' - I know what I like to do and haven't branched out much the last few trips and maybe I've become a little disconnected from what the 'essential' Vegas stops are.

My question is, for someone who has never been to Vegas and only has 24 hours there, what would you show them? (I'm talking more hotel/attraction wise, not so much the shows/restaurants) Obviously there's the Bellagio fountains and Mirage volcano and I figure we'll do a stop at the Vegas sign (we're renting a car, so we'll be driving right past it on our way to the strip). But there's a number of other things (Bellagio lobby/conservatory, Eiffel Tower, Venetian canal, Wynn lobby, I'd throw in the lion habitat if it still existed, etc...) so which things would you throw in the must see list?

Their first trip with only 24 hours... I would probably just toss out a few ideas and ask them what they wanted to do.

The problem is that you don't have a lot of time and you got so much stuff on your list already that even with a car you will be constantly on the move and running around to see all this stuff that they likely won't have time to just sit back, relax, enjoy Vegas for what it is and take in what you are showing them.

With that much time I'd probably concentrate on where you are staying and then take them to see Bellagio (the fountains and the conservatory, probably somewhere to eat in there too) and then relax and do some drinking and gambling for the rest of the night and then if they are up for it go out on The Strip later to walk around and check out one or two places nearby.

I wouldn't try to overload him too much. Better to take some time to really enjoy whatever you choose to do than to rush through things just to check them off a list. The fountains are cool of course, as is that whole area of the strip. Are you getting a room and if so where? If you have a car just driving up and down the strip a couple of times would be cool for a newbie.

Freemont Street Experience is unique to Vegas.

The roller coaster at NYNY is good for youngins. If youre thinking strictly the Vegas icons, I'd say the fountains, the Venetian canal, Freemont Street and the sign. id say the sirens, but theyre gone now :(

I would take them to Bellagio and watch the fountains.
Then to MGM just to see the size of the casino and tell them to watch Vegas Vacation.
Then to PH as that has been in a few movies.

That should be enough to get a taste of vegas. Once that is done it would be one to drinking and gambling. Play some 21, definitely some Craps as well as some of the newer slot machines as they are pretty creative.

For a first timer, I would probably throw in the Stratosphere Tower

100% Cosmopolitan, I like showing them the Chandelier, pretty much everything in CityCenter is impressive to look at it because it's shiny and new!

I like to do "views" so maybe mIX or Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay. I didn't care for the Eiffel Tower, waited so long inline and then you shove your camera through a tiny hole in a cage. It wasn't that exciting to me. But, the restaurant is an outstanding experience, just not the tower ride.

All the things on your list sound good.

All great ideas...thanks for the input.

I hadn't even thought of just driving the strip. Sometimes it's the simplest things...

I'll be staying at the Cosmo, so the Chandelier is an easy stop. I'm thinking pass on the Eiffel Tower - I've never done it but it won't be much different than the view from the hotel room.

    This one is suuuuper easy.....

    Walk the strip:

Go from Cosmo to Fashion Show Mall, cross to the Wynn, down to Tropicana, cross to Excalibur, tram it to Mandalay Bay and take that in, and walk back to Cosmo.

Best to do this past dusk. Stop into any casino that holds interest.

The best thing I did on my first trip was walk the strip. I pretty much got to take in everything.

If you have time, hit downtown.

    Wear ultra comfortable shoes!
