Have a week trip coming up, splitting time between Venetian and MGM. Is it possible to play movies from my iPad to the Hotel TV? What is required?

Apple TV is your best option. You will have to pay for wifi though. Or there's a cable you can buy to plug into the tv, not sure what it's called but it costs about $50.

You need a HDMI cable for the iPad.

just need an HDMI cable to 30 pin adapter for older iPads or lightening for the latest ones.

Apple TV complicates things a little as you'd need to use the wifi connection.

A lot of hotels block off all the input ports on the TVs so people can't plug their own stuff in.

Doubtful this will be a good solution. You'll need to hook up both your devices to the wifi (and pay a fee) and there is a good chance the performance of the wifi sucks and you won't be able to stream cleanly or it's setup in a way you won't be able to see the other wifi devices.

Also like others noted, the hdmi port may be blocked

It's been just the opposite in my experience.

From the Marriots to Aria, there are many times an input box away from the TV set aside just for plugging into inputs and an option on the TV to select it.

I either have HDMIed my laptop straight to the input or mini-HDMIed my tablet.

Have you considered burning some films onto DVD? Might be a more robust solution, presuming your room has a DVD player.

As said, some hotels may block the changing of the INPUT source. Sure, you can plug in the HDMI cable, but trying to the TV to access it is another story. Some hotels - or should I say - some rooms in some hotels do allow it, and even have a special patch panel for exactly that.

Chromcast is very limited. It is slick, but does less than you expect.

Apple TV would work, but you still need access to the HDMI port/source.

If you burn/copy the movies direct to your IPAD, you can watch the ipad if the cable option does not work.

Keep in mind, if you are looking at streaming, the speed in hotels varies widely.

I have never had that problem with changing the input source. Often times, if there's no input button or on-screen menu option, it's a channel change (like below 2 and above 99).

Even the Riviera allows it in their basic rooms.

You can't go wrong packing a $5 HDMI cord (with whatever Apple adapters necessary). In most cases, you'll be in the clear.

    If it's Android....Slimport, HDMI, or mini-HDMI connectors.
