    A Head's Up --:nworthy:
    Get your DVR's set !

NBC bought the exclusive rights to this movie
a few years ago.......so, it will been shown
    only tonight and Christmas Eve.
    *
    I'm a junkie for this movie !
    For years, I've entertained co-workers w/
mimicing the voices of these movie characters -
and doing the complete dialogue to different scenes.
    *
I do an absolute "spot on" Jimmy Stewart.
There is a nice woman, I work with, named Mary -
So, I ALWAYS do Jimmy's voice where he calls out to
Donna Reed - "Mary ! Mary !...don't you know me ?
    I'm George ! George Bailey ! "
    ....hey....it's gets laughs every December.:evillaugh
( Kinda reminds me of the ad with the camel asking "Hey, what day is it ?")
    *
    My other favorite scene :
    I do a perfect Sheldon Leonard....with the accent "poy-fect" .
Clarence ( the angel ) asks for Mull wine at the Nick's Bar -
I do the entire dialogue that follows and ends with
Sheldon Leonard ( Nick )....laughing + ringing out the cash register.
"Hey...look !....I'm handin' out wings !":evillaugh
    *
    BTW
I've noticed TCM has started making "Christmas In Connecticut"
their traditional Christmas movie ( Barbara Stanwich version )
Good movie that was usually overlooked, until recently.
    *
And then there is THE BOMB !...I had to buy the CD years ago.
    "BAD SANTA":nworthy
I think John Ritter does such a GREAT job in this movie.
He plays his character so "squirmy + uncomfortable".... it's funny.
    R.I.P.

No - I'm sorry - I think that movie is depressing.

My "must see" holiday movie is Christmas Vacation. I also loved Bad Santa, and I see that they are re-releasing it at the theaters.

No Christmas is Christmas without the animated ones, Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch, etc.

    Josie,
It's funny you say it's depressing.
This year I'm reading more reviews calling
    it "dark".
I never saw it as "dark" ?
I think younger aged reviewers call it this -
because it's in black + white print ? :evillaugh
The black + white must give it this quality.
    *
Is "A Christmas Carol" a "dark" movie ?
Certainly, there are parallels in both movies.
Lessons learned + redemption are two that come to mind.
    *
    I'm curious -
    not disagreeing.:peace:
    *
    Wow....Bad Santa in rerelease !
I always like the Rudolph animated....w/ Berl Ives voice.

Yes, and I admit that when watching Rudolph, I always seem to get something in my eye when Santa comes and rescues the misfit toys - no matter how many times I watch it.

My wife loves this movie. I try not to tell her when it is on.

I completely lost interest in re-reading books, and watching movies again about 25 years ago.

Too many new ones to waste time trying to pick up the fine points of the ones I have already enjoyed.

SNL did a funny spoof on the movie about 20 years ago. It is basically the whole town beating the crap out of Mr. Potter. I think about that skit every time the movie is mentioned.

You could come to Cleveland and see Ralphie's actual house. Also, the actual Higbee's, although it looks a little different with all the slot machines.

See, Sonya, I'm keeping the thread gambling related.

We've had this out before on another board. I maintain that "It's a Wonderful Life" is not strictly a Christmas movie, but rather a mostly serious drama which contains a heavy dose of Fantasy. It develops a somewhat similar theme to "A Christmas Carol" and contains one sequence that parallels the Dickens work. Yet while "A Christmas Carol" needs to be set at Christmas, "It's a Wonderful Life" does not, and in fact missed the Christmas season in its general release.

The film may be seen as having a theme of redemption, yet unlike Scrooge, George Bailey is a good guy who does not really need to be redeemed. I'd call it more a renewal of faith theme.

The film's history is interesting. It lost money in theaters, partly because it is so dark, and gained popularity only after it became available to television stations looking for a cheap time filler.

My wife dislikes the film, so we never watch it. I always watch Ralphie and the Karloff grinch.

"And what happened next? Why, in Whoville they say
That the grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day."

    Now, there's redemption for ya.

I've already recorded White Christmas with Bing Crosby. Its my favorite. Love the ending where they all come back for the General.

My favorite line in the entire movie, part of Joe's scene above:

Sheldon Leonard: "Hey, look, mister. We serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast, and we don't need any characters around to give the joint atmosphere, is that clear?"
