Just want to give a heads up to any of you out there that may have a TR credit card. I went xmas shopping this morning and had my credit card declined.
I called the company and they said 15,000 of their customers info was accessed thru the Target stores breach. They automatically cancelled all the affected cards, and are issuing new numbers and cards.
That was good that they were proactive, however they could of notified the customers of that. It would of saved some embarrassment at the checkout. Thankfully I have other credit card options.
So, everyone remember to carefully check all your statements for potential fraud now and for the foreseeable future.

I work in the financial industry. Some banks are going ahead and reissuing all of their potential breached cards. Some are taking a wait and see approach (all fraudulent charges will ultimately be paid for by Target, not the bank, so they are not in a hurry to reissue cards).

Some banks, when reissuing cards, are "hot carding" the old card, meaning you can't use them at all. Some are keeping the cards active but lowering their limits. Some put them in a "compromised" status, they can still be used but there is additional fraud alerts on those cards.

To add to what Frank said, I wouldn't wait until you get your statements. Go online now and check your transactions frequently. If you aren't set up to check online, try to get that set up. If your bank doesn't offer this then call them and have them check recent activity for you. Often the criminals will first charge a small amount to see if the card still works. If that transaction goes through they will go for the larger amounts. Many banks let you set up alerts so you'll get a text or call on any transaction that is over a certain limit.

And remember, credit cards have more fraud protection, your liability is limited to $50. Debit cards have no such protection and your losses are limited by your banks policy. And if you do have fraudulent charges on a credit card, you can disput them and not pay a penny for them until they are investigated. You can dispute debit card transactions too but meanwhile your bank account may be drained until the investigation is over and there is resolution.

Best Buy.com was also compromised on Nov 27 - Dec 15th. My SW Visa had over $5,000 charged to it in separate transactions. Thankfully, SW Chase denied them all but another family member took at hit for a $750 computer she'd bought from them online. TG that I contacted her and she was able to call her CC company to cancel the card and BestBuy.com to cancel the order before it was shipped.

Any idea how big the Best Buy thing was? I looked online and couldn't find much. Was it only the .com site, or did it also occur with the brick and mortar stores? Thx.......:peace::beer:

my card was compromised (not a TR card); "test" transaction was performed on 12/18 and then 7 fraudulent transactions were rejected on 12/20

I was lucky, no harm done to me other than a short wait for a new card to be issued

I got the same response as the OP. My new card is supposed to arrive Monday. Kina stinks since I am doing some last minute holiday shopping tonight. Would have been nice to add a few extra reward credits. Oh well ....
