Okay, I haven't been to Vegas in two years but I have always had comped rooms at Harrah's and still do, but called to find out that I will have to pay the resort fees (for things I don't use). I also get comped rooms downtown so I guess I will be staying there instead. Too bad for Harrah's as I'm sure a lot of people will easily do the same.

It depends on where you want to stay Downtown. Some of the hotels there charge a resort fee as well.

Yup! Resort fees SUCK big time. You can ask to get them comped off at the end of your stay. I was Platinum this year (won't make it for 2014 tho) and had no fees at RIO in August.

Resort fees are a necessary evil but just about every Hotel in Vegas has been and will be charging the fees......Strip, Off Strip, and Downtown.
That's why i always book online, in my case CET, and look at the calender for up to a year and see what's free. I have at least 4 or 5 hotels that are comped Sun-Fri and with the resort fee i know what the charge is per day.
If you look at Sonya's resort fee thread you will notice that most hotels Downtown also charge for resort fees.........some more than Harrah's.
I never use whatever is included in the resort fee, but i can live with $20 per day in fees simply because my rooms are free.
I stayed at Caesars Palace in August for 5 nights comped, my resort fee was $28 per day...........i have a list stating Caesars Palace was $33 per night...........in 1975!!

I'm actually surprised so many folks stand for resort fees tbh.

If enough people voted with their wallets, resort fees would have been nixed.

Unfortunately resort fees like baggage fees with airlines, with exception to SWA and 1st bag on Jet Blue, are here to stay.

I've never had to pay resort fees for comped rooms at PH.

Irm - I'm assuming you are Platinum or higher? Because only gold cards pay resort fees

Not sure if they are still doing this promo but getting a Total Rewards Visa will get you platinum status for at least a year and therefore eliminate your resort fees. Just a thought.

I doubt is, most places charge the resort fee now. If they got rid of it they'd just build the price into their daily rate anyways. Just look at it as though you are getting a room in Vegas for $28/night or less depending on where you're staying. Not many other places in the world where you'll get that kind of deal.

Actually my rooms at Harrah's were always totally free. I called the D (downtown) and asked about resort fees on comped rooms and they will not charge the resort fee if your room is comped. She said my total will be zero. I realize most of the casinos are charging now. and it still makes for a cheap room but I'll stay where it's free.

The resort fee at CET is relatively new, idk, last six months or so. So yes, if you haven't been there in two years, your comped rooms would not have had a resort fee.

Alas, it is what it is...

It's a simple cost/benefit analysis. Is Harrah's for $28 a night better than the D for free? If so, then stay at Harrah's. Who gives a shit about the fee. You are only penalizing yourself if you choose to spend your precious vacation days at a hotel that you don't want to stay at, simply because you are upset about a minor fee.

I don't understand why people won't stay at the place they want to just because of $20 per day. Do I like resort fees? Hell no. But I'm not going to modify my plans and stay elsewhere because of them.

We pay $40 for a bucket of beers at a pool, $20 for a mixed drink in a bar/club, $100+ pp at a restaurant, while continuously feeding $20s or $100s into machines...and the $20 resort fee is what people complain about?!

I equate that same mentality to airfare. My bf and I laugh about it all the time. We are crazy when it comes to flying to Vegas, and will only go if the price is reasonable. YET, once we are there that mentality goes right out the window, and we don't think twice about pumping hundreds into a machine, or spending a ridiculous amount of money on a drink or food. Priorities I guess, lol

There you go, making some rational sense out of the whole thing. LOL!

I think it sucks, etc.... but it is what it is.

I'm not giving up the hotel that I really wanted because I don't want to pay a resort fee. It's more like, should I stay on the strip or downtown? This just helped me make up my mind. I like to be frugal about airfare and hotel so that I can spend the money on the rest of the Vegas experience.
