Will be playing craps at MSS with their 20X odds. Has anyone had the good fortune to take advantage of their 20X odds? A rare HOT table with such good odds would be a great experience.

I've played there quite a bit...
I've watched people take 20x odds...but never saw a hot table WHILE someone was taking 20x...myself, I usually take 5x odds...enough variance for me..

Seems like every time I was there I was in the same boat as TIMSPEED. If I did get up to 10x odds choppy table ensued.

I made good money on a 10x odds table one time. virgin roller = good times! I put down $100 pass and she rolls a 4. I say to the stick man, 3x odds? and he says no, this is a 10x odds table. I think to myself, oh shit, what did I get myself into. i'm not a big dice player, i don't like to risk more than a couple thousand a trip on it. but I couldn't chicken out now, so I put down $1k odds. luckily she was hitting points left and right. I pressed up to $200 pass with $2k odds later. she kept hitting points and made me good money in short order.

LOL. You know this, of course, but the odds multiple on the table is the MAXIMUM you can place, not the minimum. :wink2::poke:

I see people touting places that have large odds multiples, but probably 1% of the players actually play those maximum odds. After about 5x, there is definitely diminishing returns in regards to reducing the house edge. pass line 5X=0.23%, 10X=0.12%

    Advertisinggimmick...

20x odds is mainly an advertising gimmick...
Most of the players are comfortable at the 1x, 2x, 5x or even 10x levels. Darn few are going to go to 20x and even fewer are going to stay there for long.

As someone who is used to playing on the strip, at casinos where $15 minimums are the norm, I love the $5 minimums with 20X odds MSS offers. It’s those 20X odds (plus their beers) that bring me downtown.

On a $15 table with 3X4X5X, you’re betting $60-90 anyway…so the extra $15-45 is worth it to me considering there is zero house advantage on the extra wager. Plus, I usually reduce the amount I place on the 6 and 8 (probably the “worst” bets I consistently make) to fund the extra odds...Win-win!

The carve makes a good point. ESP escaping the high strip minimums.

I do not always play max odds, but when I went to MSS almost all of the other players mainly Hawaiians were taking max odds. I do not think taking 20x odds is an uncommon occurrence:wave:

I’ll agree with this. Compared to most places, the MSS players I’ve played with do seem to take more odds than the “average” craps player.

I don’t think I’ll ever cease to be amazed at how many people bet more (sometimes, much more) than the table minimum on the pass line, yet don’t take full odds (or at least use that extra money they’re betting on the pass for their odds). I think the worst I’ve seen was this dude at Horseshoe (née Caesars) Southern Indiana: it was a $10 minimum table with 100X (!) odds and he was betting $75 on the pass and backing it up with $25 in odds each roll. :confused2:

He can tell you that he'd rather win $75 on the come-out 7/11, not just $10. Overall, $10+$100 odds is better, but this is the added feature of betting his way. It's not like there's NO upside.

I didn't think that 6 and 8 were bad bets. I always bet on 6 and on 8 and have them always working. We're talking $6 on each number.

They really aren't bad - I didn't mean to make it sound that way. Compared with most bets in the casino they’re actually very good.

But they do carry a higher house advantage (roughly 1.5% if memory serves) than the other bets I typically make: “good” blackjack and video poker and the combined pass/odds bet in craps.

Then there are the odds taken on come bets. Taking full odds on come bets seem to be a problematic strategy.

Back when Benny was in charge didn't Binions offer $1 min with 100 X odds? Those were the most incredible dice tables and dealers I have ever witnessed.

i read Riviera has 1000x times odds on craps. that is high for me but 10x times is ok. craps all depends on the shooter. if there is a good shooter the higher the odds you can take the better. if the shooter sucks the higher odds are for the casino.

Whoever devised the 3X4X5X odds system came up with the biggest scam against the players in the history of craps. Never vary yours odds bet from one number to another (unless the put bet is allowed and you're pressing odds according to the outcomes on a long hand). The casinos have devised a system that encourages the player to overplay his bankroll on the one hand, and at the same time be under rewarded when the outside numbers are rolled. If you play a table offering 3X4X5X odds, simply decide your total buy in and decide your flat bet amount with 3X odds. You need 20 units to give it a fair chance. So a $10 minimum with $30 odds makes a $40 unit with $800 buy in. Bet the line with odds (after shooter is qualified) and let the bones be your guide through the come until you win 2 or 3 bets. Then start converting the come bets to place bets as the hand progresses. That's enough for now. The rest is proprietary information. School's out.

Can you explain why this is problematic?
