I bought my Honda Accord new back in 1998 and tomorrow I'm picking up my new 2014 Subaru Forester. I must say I'm excited. For the first time in 30+ years, no more manual transmission. I'm tired of shifting. I would have looked at Honda again, because I was very happy after 240,000+ miles, but no dealers near me. My wife has a 97 Outback and that has held up well, so I went with Sub. I looked at Chevy & Ford, but they were either too expensive, or just didn't float my boat. One sad note...I'm 61 now and we keep our cars a long time. This could be the last car I ever own.
As long as you haven't hit your last royal you have something to live for. :evillaugh I'm driving a 2002 Hyundai Sante Fe, and based on how fast my wife & kids spend money, and how little I drive, that could be the last car I ever own! Oh and congrats on the new vehicle!
Good luck with your new wheels 61 is the new 51 , I'm 68 and the furthest thing on my mind is dying. If life was perfect and everything was just wonderfull I'd be looking over my shoulder all the time thinking I'm gonna die.
I envy you Joe! In june of 2012 we rented one (a 2013 Forrester) and took it on a road trip from CA -> SD...we really enjoyed having it and have been wanting to buy one ever since! It got 27mpg on the freeway (with a 70mph cruise!) For it's size, it's ROOMY! (We are 4 fat people and we were comfortable the WHOLE WAY) The only SUV that I've driven that trumped it was the new Jeep Grand Cherokee...but alas, it only got 21mpg. On a funny note...on the absolutely STOCK tires, I took it off the highway when we were in Salt Lake City (outskirts) and I got STUCK in the salt...however, I just mashed the throttle and wiggled it back and forth and voila, out she went!
glad you are getting a new car !! we just got a new 2013 Camaro ... yeah yeah midlife criris , I am 50 but we love it !! first new chevy I have ever owned ....
I'll be getting a new car when my current one finally bites the dust.. however as its a Volvo, only has 140K on it and my round trip commute is 16 miles I suspect that it'll be a fair few years yet....
Congrats. Enjoy that new car. I got rid of the boring sedan and SUV last year and got a Honda Accord Coupe. I love this car, the only thing I wish is that the car had the technology package that the 2013 and higher have. Subaru's are great too! Drove a little orange coupe hatchback in my twenties that was a manual and had no air conditioning. I don't see my self owning anything but Hondas in the future.
I bought a 2013 Forester last December and I love it. Very maneuverable, comfortable, handles great in the snow, and I love the huge sunroof. Still haven't figured out all the buttons, at some point I'll have to RTFM. Good choice, I think you enjoy it.
Joe, at 61 you're still a "kid". I just turned 68 a few weeks back and the end of the road is something that I know will happen sometime in the future. I hardly ever think about it and shoot I'm still working. Although I think I might give that up later this year. Enjoy your new car!
Congratulations!!! And wow you've had your old car for 30 Years and it has less than 250K Miles on it? That's pretty darn good! I say that because my SUV is only 8 years old and has over 154K City Miles on it! And I pretty much just drive locally everyday. And the body and paint looked almost new until I almost took off the side mirror in a Gas Station Car Wash a few months ago! I guess it's time for someone to take away my keys like we had to do with our Grandfather after one of his "Joy Rides"! haha!
Six months shy of 16 years on the Honda. The previous Saab also lasted 16 years before the cat converter burst into flames. I meant I've had manual transmissions for the last 30+ years. The new one is auto. Just got home with the new Forester and it was probably weird following me. I kept tapping the brake with my left (clutch foot) and reaching down to shift.
