I am very troubled with this new "Vegas Remodeling"

The Mirage started the the Mega Resorts.

Then the .. Lets get Family Friendly decade..

Then the .. Transistion faze to .. TODFAY..

    -------------------------------------------------------

    1) Most of the Strip is owned by two companies, MFLIFE, and CET.

    2) From what I read.. $1 Slots that where 98% are now 91%
25c Slots are now under 88%

    Best VP is under 97%

    And BJ is 6:5...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to thrive on the idea of going to Vegas.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it is Clubs, Eating, and Shops..

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Vegas is re-inventing itself again.

And what once was the DRAW on gambling, is no more..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SO I HAVE TO ASK...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why should we shell out BIG BUCKS on BIG BUCK Airfare to go to Vegas?

Biloxi has horrible VP tables, just like the Vegas Strip!

And from Florida, it is cheap..

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wait, I am sorry, this is a Vegas Post.. OK I reset..

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So if Vegas keeps on its current corse,,,

Why would I want to spend the Big Buck Airfare prices to go to Vegas anymore

What is the "DRAW" to get me to Vegas any more?

To me it's just the adventure for a week with endless possibilities. I'm from a small town born and raised in Iowa. Small town like 1200 people small town. The city I live in now about 30k people. To me going to Vegas or any major city is a blast. The food is always a huge go and the shopping is crazy there. The nearest casino to me is about an hour and a half drive. So all of that together just makes Vegas to me a great place to visit.

    One word: Downtown

After the death of the North Strip, and the onslaught of 6:5 by CET, my friends & I started staying downtown.
    We love it!
'Old-school' Vegas vibe, multiple casinos within a very short stroll, decent food options, 3:2 on most blackjack tables, easier comps, friendlier pits (to lower-limit players), inexpensive rooms (on those few occasions when the stay is not 100% comped), no slappers or time-share hustlers & a significant reduction in LA frat-boy doosh-baggery (with apologies to any LA frat boys who post here).

fixed that for you, but I agree wholeheartedly.

Fremont street is where its at if you like to gamble. I can get better blackjack rules at my home casino in Maryland than I can on the strip in Vegas.

I agree 200%!! I first started doing Vegas in 84 I think. The Sands, Desert Inn, Frontier, Dunes, Showboat etc... 3:2 BJ, 99% slots, 2.99 prime rib dinners, 1.99 T-bones, 15.00 rooms, The Slots-A-Fun was awesome with the big hot dogs, free heinekens, 1.00 spagetti dinner. Nickle poker machines and machines where u hear coins dropping into the metal trays, people actually dressed up to "go downstairs". The only "shopping" I did was the Bonanza store and a few lil shops. We only ate in authentic "coffee shops" and a few cheaper buffets. Now, yes, it sux really. Vegas is really only for folks who have at least 5000 grand just to "blow" on over priced buffets, way over priced shopping malls etc.. I can remember a "20" would last all morning in a gambling session. Shit, you're lucky if it lasts 3 minutes. Am I "old school"?? Hell yes and proud of it. When I do go, I don't shop, don't go to 100.00 shows, don't do 50.00 buffets, don't stay in hotels that are 200.00 a night--just to sleep and shower? Are people nuts? As long as it's clean, safe, has a place to lay my head for a few hours, I'm good. As long as people keep flocking to these places and spending $$$$$, they won't change, it will get worse. Because of MyVegas, I'll do it cause it's free. But, if I want a good "gamble", eat cheaper but good food, want a decent room that is cheaper but safe and clean--I'm doing Reno.

The weather is better in Vegas than at home.

There is desert scenery that I don't get at home.

There's several generic American destination advantages (cheap shopping, gasoline, meals etc.) and Vegas is much more solo-friendly than other US destinations I could just as easily get to (Florida, New York, LA).

We all have our favorites of course and I know many prefer downtown to the strip but IMHO downtown isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Plaza when Jackie ran it was much better. LVC is a shell of it's former self under Exber. Binions of course started sinking as soon as Benny died. Pioneer Club now sells tshirts. Freemont, GN and 4 Queens, pretty much the same. IMHO the D is no improvement over Fitz. Downtown Grand so far is a dud. Neonopolis a dud. The lightshow on the canopy was cool 15 years ago. The only thing that's got better downtown over the years is closing Freemont St to traffic.

Sorry for the "rant". Yes you can gamble cheaper downtown and eat cheaper (although one can say you get what you pay for in that regard). Downtown has it's share of fans to be sure and that's great. I went through a downtown "phase" a few years ago and I still stop down there once on each trip. If we all liked the same thing Vegas would be boring as hell.

I'm not all that fond of the recent strip changes either. And I hate that two companies dominate.

Don't want to go to Vegas any more?

So don't. I doubt very much they'll miss you.

In "Old Vegas," the $2.99 prime rib was over-priced, the buffets and restaurants sucked, the rooms were motel-quality at best and coins are dirty. Everything looks golden through memory. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. The town runs in cycles, and if you don't like what it is now, wait a few years and it will change. Or not. The rest of us will still enjoy the place. And the idea that you have to have a huge budget to enjoy Vegas is just ludicrous. Proper attention to play and Player's Clubs make all sorts of goodies available to low rollers. Not as much as the greed-heads would like, of course. But they'd bitch if you hung them with a new rope. :D

Ditto...and those in control of Vegas will continue to reinvent it...if they did not then they would be out of business.

If you want Old School Vegas...go to Reno.

I guess it all depends on where you live cause I have never once paid more than $200 for a RT flight to Vegas. I can't go anywhere else in the whole country for that kinda price.

The gambling may suck but it's a hell of a lot better than what I have at home.

I guess if you don't enjoy it anymore don't go.

Gotta chime in here. There seems to be some serious confusion here on the difference between LA college-aged people and people in actual fraternities. Let me break it down for you here:

    LA Socialite:
Wears: Graphic t-shirt (mostly affliction or Ed Hardy), tennis shoes, cargo pants, over-gelled hair and baggy shorts/pants, possibly a Lakers jersey
Drinks: Jaegermeister shots, cheap whiskey or some form of energy drink-mixed shooter. Also, rum and coke.
Favorite Vegas activities: working on tan, shopping for graphic t-shirts, getting bottle service, screaming, saying the word "bro" way too often and attempting Pickup Artist techniques at overcrowded bars. Also yelling "Vegas Baby" at random times."
Music of choice: Some kind of techno house music without any lyrics and a sweet fist-pumping beat

    Fraternity guy:
Wears: Conservative shirt (most likely something from polo, Vineyard vines, Brooks Brothers etc,), dock shoes without socks, shorts without cargo pockets, jeans or slacks. Maybe -- and only maybe -- a backwards adjustable hat with leather strap. Does not use hair gel. Basically dresses like a normal adult.
Drinks: Bourbon, a mixed cocktail or some kind of beer
Favorite Vegas activities gambling, drinking (usually at a non-club), betting on sports, talking (politely) to strangers and having conversations with people like an actual human being
Music of choice: Mix of hip-hop and classic rock

I hate to see these two groups confused. Think of me as the board spokesman for the anti fraternity defamation council or something of the sort. Hope I was of help.

As stated earlier, go downtown if you want the old feel.

Vegas is one of the cheapest destinations for flight and hotel. You can find deals, but everything on the strip is generally overpriced, but it's Vegas. NYC or SF have similar prices as LV. Anywhere nice that brings in tourist will be overpriced since business is business.

If you want to have a good time (young or old since there is plenty for both ages), Vegas is a great place. If you are a gambler, there is no place like Vegas (maybe Macau, but I have never been there). Local casinos, etc. cannot compare to the gaming in Vegas. Some may argue it is the same elsewhere, but the vibe, atmosphere and game selection is like no where else, IMHO.

The draw for me is that all the endless possibilities are together in one spot. Here at home, I can go to a fairly nice casino, we have plenty of nice restaurants, there are clubs here and in the summer I can find a pool somewhere. However, Vegas offers me to do all of these things in one spot with numerous options. I also feel I will let my guard down a little more and have fun, because it's an "event" for me.

Another thing I love about Vegas is that people go there (generally) to have the times of their lives. That attitude to me is contagious.

I think it's important to remember that "Old Vegas" didn't appeal to everyone, and judging by some comments on message boards "new Vegas" doesn't appeal to everyone. It's all personal preference.

For me, the Gambling is the DRAW for me as to why I visit Vegas. Simply because here in Hawaii where I live there is no gambling.

Vegas seems to be veering away from gambling and opting to cater to the ******-bag crowd that prefers clubs and bottle service perhaps so they can tweet each other and say "Look at me...." :rolleyes2: Daytime pool parties are popular too.

I'll just evolve as Vegas evolves. Seems like most of these changes are on the Strip and recently there are attempts to make Downtown somewhat similar. So I'll just evolve off-strip to the locals casino where there is less of that bullshit going on.:thumbsup:
