Your good friend Gaggles is on a self imposed Vegas time out. I had three trips to Vegas/Laughlin from October 4-November 4 (hence the reason there was no Gaggles in Beejay's last adventure) and the bankroll from three royals I hit this year on $1 and .50 (in addition to the 2 $1000 Royals I hit in Laughlin in October) came very close to drying up. Yes...I hear many of you saying "What kind of a degenerate gambler can hit that many royals and lose it all in a month? While I might suggest that would be me. In fairness.....Beejay could lose that in a weekend!!

For the first time in over 5 years I have no trips booked anywhere. I usually have 1-2 on deck to Vegas at any given time. But those three trips really hammered me.

I am skipping my annual NFR trip which I love. Gambling with all those cowboys is an absolute hoot and they are generally loose as a goose when playing poker so the games are fun. They also know how to liven up a craps table. I have also passed on a Vegas NY. At this point it appears mid Feb is my return.

Now 3-3.5 months may not seem like a long time to many of you. And maybe I'm being a little whiny, but that is a long time for me and my associates to go without a trip when flights are always around $200 return.

So I am soliciting stories of tragedy and time outs from Vegas that you are willing to share.

My losses were all about drunken greed and the inevitable house edge. I seldom tilted on $5 machines like Beejay. Now I did play some $5 in there a few times but unlike that donkey Beejay.....I have no quads to show you. And only one 10-42 form from the Golden Gate to show for those many days in Vegas.

    Stories anyone......????

Gaggles I am with you, but for some other reasons. This year will represent the least amount of Vegas trips EVER for me since I started going. The reasons are varied but mainly fall in this order.

    1) Other financial priorities as dictated by my spouse. (White stain furniture)
    2) Diminishing Comps in light of other non vegas properties.

Oh yeah and the ass kicking I took Dec of 2012 at PHo in one night, essentially dropping over 2K did not help either. Had I walked over to the Sea Horse lounge that rainy night for a drink with Macker, I might have had a different tale to tell. That one shot gave me a punch to the head to brood about for a couple of months.

Somehow this year I have managed to be cash flow positive gambling outside of Vegas. It could be luck of the draw, or just more astute gaming. But having success in other markets has reduced my desire for Vegas. Especially when the comps and rooms have been much better elsewhere.

Either way I can say with certainty that this will be the last year I bother with CET diamond status and will most certainly further my exploration of other locations that offer gaming. I could survive with a once a year trip. Of course I am not living the party lifestyle and standard you Canadians aspire to.

i resemble that remark, I dropped $2,000 in under 30 minutes play 8 times in the past week and if not for chaser luck I could easily be down 5-figures on those losses.

After todays ridiculous shenanignas which saw me go from a trip to Target, to a detour to River with a bankroll of $1,000:

Lost down to $50 right off the bat,
Hit a straight flush and quads on dollars, then some roulette wins, then chased a quad on $5 to $3,075....then lost on roulette and $5 and $2 triple bonus to $1,000

then back up via roulette and VP to $3,000 THEN back down from that to $100

and then finally a $2 quad to $900 and I could feel the heart palpatations by that point I got the hell outta there.

At 1:00pm I had $3,000, by 1:20 I had $100. Betting $350/spin roulette and missing by one slot 5-6 times in a row can give anyone a heart attach. I mean it would bounce out of my number, or land short and stick. It was just brutal.

So anyway, I think after last week and then this, a self imposed hiatus is probably in order before I become any twitchier of a tweeker. :evillaugh:beer:

Difference is you had twice the bankroll. I don't think you could revert back to quarter play after a non comeback.

    My latest tragedy..

Walked in the door with $200. Increased to $250 via 50c JoB. Reduced to $75 via blackjack.... Increased to $875 via penny slot jackpot (Bier Haus anyone?), increased to $1025 via more blackjack, then reduced to a big fat zero in under 30 minutes at the craps table. :vomit:

It doesn't help that the local casino's cheapest BJ and Craps is $25 minimum. The chasers haven't been going well for me, therefore I'm trying to pull a self-imposed time-out on the local casinos.

Its already been a couple years for Vegas, though considering a return for a short weekend in early spring.

I don't think i actually played more than an hour under dollars in 16 nights in Vegas and another 10 trips to the local casino this year. Probably average $2, with some $1 play and some $5.

Our current self-imposed hiatus involves a dog we don't want to board longer than overnight. Gambling losses affect my wife more than they do me, even though she gambles at a lower level. So if things are going badly, I'll reload and go back out while she stops and shops.

We love NFR week. PBR week is okay but not nearly as intense. NFR is the only time these days that I'll sit at the poker tables. Money is loose and tables are friendly- what could be better?

I guess I'm a different animal than the rest of you high rollers. I put 5 dollars in the sigma derby machine recently and hit a 200 dollar quinella. I was paid 500 quarters and the rest via hand pay. I took my 200 dollar win and put it away. Tipped the change lady a couple of dollars and took the remaining few dollars and put it back into the machine for a chance to win something else but I was determined to walk out of there with that money. I actually still have 1 of the 100 dollar bills and that win was about 2 weeks ago.

I hardly ever have "planned" trips. I just decide to pick up and go. Not having to worry about airfare is one of the biggest reliefs you could ever imagine. If there is room on the plane for me...I go....if there isn't. Then I don't go. Since I decide to go often it's sometimes a matter of having enough $$ to have fun with. So sometimes I don't gamble at all.

I am finally making a decent living pulling in about 60K this year. I took I don't know how many number of trips to LV and have won $$$ but thankfully do not have ANY W2Gs in my name to the IRS.

Once you start hitting those $2 Boner Deluxe Quads, the 250 coin quarter four of a kinds look paltry. Fucks with your whole gambling high.

I started carrying a list in my pocket with me to the casino of all the shit I want to buy. It helps me keep from falling over the wall of degeneracy. Not to mention after a month of spending money the mortgage, wifes school loan, car payments, etc it helps me reset the barometer of what I consider a good win. What kinda sucks is if you hit that big win early in the trip. If I hit big on the first day, I am basically f@cked! That money is doomed.

I am much less likely to play thru winnings if I am halfway thru a trip. Now a days I think if I hit a win equal to one months paycheck would definitely be enough to keep me away from Vegas for 6 months.

I guess it is self imposed, but it occured because of stupidity anyway. I have a yearly bankroll and I lost all I had left on my trip in September. I usually take a trip sometime between then and my March madness trip, but I won't this year. The closest I'll get is a stop in at Shreveport around Christmas on a drive to family. I can't count that as I won't be taking more than $200 to gamble.

This will be the first year in 6? that I don't go to Vegas 3+ times.

I'm going again in March and I'll see how that goes. I don't need to tone down my bankroll, but I want to. I just haven't received a whole lot of value on my last few trips. I still enjoyed them, but if I can enjoy them cheaper I get to buy myself more totally unneeded toys. :)

Well as previously mentioned I had no trips booked. That is no longer the case. It appears as if the hiatus will be just short of 3.5 months as we are good to go Feb 20-23. I haven't booked a hotel yet as I haven't decided where to stay but the flight is locked in.

In other dangerous news....it looks like it is a guys trip. No good can come from this.......

Vegas bank roll about a third of where it needs to be but Uncle Sam owes me about $3000 from last years tax withholdings.

Now if we can just get that Canadian Dollar to stop sitting around .95 cents....

I was already planning a quick getaway for the same weekend. I sense a vegas explosion since you will be coming off hiatus!

I am currently on my longest self imposed Vegas break in last 5 or 6 years. It will have been over 6 months since my last trip when I hit Fremont in Feb.

I still love Vegas more than ever, but as I get older I am finding it harder to get there, I have more responsibilities and more things stand in my way. I am considering this next trip as a sort of Vegas Swan song. We are going to have a kid, and its going to be awhile before I get back.

Fuck, I am depressed. I am trying to reassure myself with all sorts of old sayings
    - Good things come to those who wait
    - something something distance makes the heart grow fonder

I'm sure there are many more, but I'm too busy being depressed to think of any.

Not Vegas related but I took a year hiatus from Bay101 after dropping a few grand at the 20/40 table over a weekend. To this day I haven't caught as many coolers as I did that weekend.

My 3rd kid turned 5 years old about 2 months ago. My wife and I agreed to have 2 kids and I negotiated unlimited Vegas trips if I agreed to that 3rd kid. This November trip was my 39th since "conception" and the signing of that post-it note agreement.

    So there is hope!

5 months this year. May-Oct, but after the Dec trip, that will still be 6 total for 2013 including my only, ever solo trip back in March.

It's been a wonderful travel year for us this year with my wife's companion status on SWA.
    Tampa in Jan
    Phoenix in Feb
    Seattle in July
    Maine in Sept

Reality hits Dec 31st when we have to go back to paying for flights for both of us:cry:

Starting in June, 1985, I averaged between one and two Vegas trips a year. But after a less than fun solo trip over Thanksgiving '93 (exactly 20 years ago tomorrow), I stayed away for the next 5 ½ years. However, three dozen trips to Atlantic City and a dozen to Mississippi helped fill the gap! I returned to Vegas in May, '99 and now go at least every other month.

I'm boring. Never had a gambling meltdown of sufficient magnitude to alter our plans down the line. Sure, I've had a few coulda-bought-that moments but we've never been close to putting even remotely significant money at risk.

Burnout, other travels, evolving work interests and then moving past our EZ three-hour drive distance have conspired, however. I've now had a bit more than year lapse since my last visit, and for folks who once hit town 12, 15, 18 times a year ...

Looking forward to getting the jones again.
