Does anyone have their own poker table for monthly games etc.

I was going to attempt to build my own poker table but ended up getting a really good deal on this one so I bought it. It's an 8 player with slide out cup holders and a solid base with storage. It's made by Howard Miller who make high end grandfather clocks etc. I had it delivered and set up and when the guys left I tipped it to set the levelers and there was a box hanging from the underneath. I cut the straps holding it and it was a nice poker chip set. The place I bought this from had no idea it was there so that was an additional bonus.

I would like to see your table or set up for some ideas as well as tips for running a home game.

Very nice tables BTSyndrome. No wonder your buddies want to buy them.
That is what I was hoping to build but for a $1,000 I couldn't turn down the one I bought.

No rake Hillwood24. Just a group who will get together monthly for a friendly game. I was thinking of making it a monthly tournament but those who get knocked out are sitting on the side so I think we will go with 1-2 with a $100 buy in. Any tips on running this?

Beautiful tables. As for the ppl getting knocked out early, they should start a small cash game.

For a 1-2 cash game, you should do 200 min buy in. What happens if you start with 5-6 ppl at 100 and 1-2 get knocked out early and they do not want to re-buy? No one wants to play with only with only 4-5 players.

Nice table, I resort to my 8 ft pool table, I take the balls out of the pockets and they serve as drink holders  and the felt on the table works great for poker games

Yea. That can be a problem but I guess $200 should keep them around longer. I have 8 committed and 3 on standby for Saturday night so we should be ok The standbys can play darts or pool or watch tv.

LOL. Its a long stretch to deal the cards. Poker pool is a good alternative though.

Those tables look excellent BTSyndrome, how long do they take you to make each one?

Having all the materials on hand....to build, it can be done over a weekend.
But the three or more coats of strain and dry time it's more like a week start to finish.
The more I make the faster it goes. Now if I sell one I just build two. Helps save on shipping costs for the material too.

    Thanks.

If the majority of people in your regular group are not re-buying when they bust and the games are getting short handed, you can fix this by lowering the stakes.

As far as buy-ins go , some people like to buy-in short while others prefer a deep stack. Therefore, a range of buy-ins are typically allowed for cash games. The limits are usually 50 to 150 big blinds. For a 1-2 game that is $100 to $300.

If you do no-limit only, your game will dry up unless you have a deeper player pool, as a good number of your core will be consistent losers. If your core group is 8 players, I would start introducing more games into the cash game portion...maybe limit versions of Omaha H/L, Stud, Stud H/L, and Razz, to give everyone a chance to learn.

I built a table a year or so ago. I sent out some flyer emails and got a Las Vegas casino to send me brand new felt the same as their poker room. As a result he asked me not to post pictures but I am pleased with the results. Getting the rail to look smooth was the hardest part for me
