I want to be smack dab in the middle of the Fremont Experience. I want to come out and be right there.

    I'm looking at

    Golden Nugget
    Four Queens
    Fremont Casino

    Any recommendations?

You want the Nugget--if you don't care about the cost, take the Rush Tower; if you want your room to be directly on Fremont Street, take the Gold (north) Tower; if you want the least expensive room, or the one farthest from the noise of Fremont, take the Carson (south) Tower.

IMO, the best FSE is had by staying at the D. If feels like it has the most party, FSE vibe to me.

I forgot about the D. That's really in the middle with no thru traffic.

I had my son with me this trip (he hasn't been to Las Vegas since he's turned 21 a few years ago) and wanted to show him around a bit. I decided to take him downtown the first night. It was raining and I mistakenly thought the canopy would afford us some rain protection... nope. We valeted at the Golden Nugget Rush Tower side. The Nugget was lively. It was Thursday about 5 p.m... lots of gamblers, lots of people at the bars. The place looked and felt great! We played for a bit and walked across the street to Binion's... half of the entrance was roped-off and the machines were gone from that area... looked like their replacing the carpet or had a bad leak?

Anyways we went looking for the "million dollar money table" I wanted to show him. Didn't see it... didn't ask... didn't like the vibe... it had an "old man" vibe to it... we left. I've had a lot of fun there year's ago, but hard to envision that with what's going on there now. Next up was The Fremont and it was about 6:30 p.m. or so and we played for about 45 minutes there.

I always give the Boyd "lovers" a hard time here, but the fact is Boyd runs a good ship! The payables were good, the drinks were strong and the service attentive. We left happy and walked over to the D. As a fan of the Hard Rock, I instantly had an affinity for this place upon entrance. I liked the music and I like the volume level!!! We quickly found 2 seats together at the Long Bar and watched some sports on the row of crystal clear flat-screens and played a bit. After about an hour, we went upstairs to check it out... not my thing at all... the Sigma Derby I hear so much about was in several pieces and "out of order" and the "retro thing" just felt like a bunch of old, broken down stuff. We sat at the Vue bar for a couple drinks and were entertained by a bartender with flair skills and a great personality, who was very proud of the changes ownership has made their. He was a good ambassador for the property.

I agree with staying at the Nugget Rush Tower... before I became enamored with the Hard Rock, that was my place. First in the Gold Rooms at the North Tower, then over to the Jr. Suites in the Rush Tower when they opened. I like the easy entrance and check-in and the elevators are right there too. I like the Nugget's "upscale" strip-like environment, but I love to property hop. I'd for sure visit the GG, Fremont, Four Queens, The D and what the heck make your way back and check out the Downtown Grand. I wanted to go back there, but it was raining too hard by the time our evening was winding down.

Beware of D elevators. I think Golden Nugget is the best centrally located casino in the FSE even if its only a block away.

First time at the GN. Enjoyed it stayed in the Carson Tower, quiet, clean and comfortable. No troubles at all. Center of FMS, close to the ABC Store or a five minute walk to Walgreens.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I just spent a week at the GN and the above post is spot on. The only thing I would add is that Fremont Street is very concentrated. All the casinos are close together. It is roughly a three minute walk from the Golden Gate, at one end of Fremont Street, to The D, at the opposite end.

    Have fun and good luck.:peace::beer:

How does the El Cortez rate guys? Going to stay downtown a few nights mid Dec...Looking at Cabana Junior Suite is $64 tax and all (evidently no resort fee?)
Other openings are GGate at 112 with tax/fees for the suite, and GNugget at too much!
Where do you go if you want a NICE room/suite well positioned for casino hops?

Never stayed at ELCo but its about 3-3.5 blocks from the middle of FSE. Honestly you can stay at any casino downtown and hop around without an issue.

Depends on your definition of best? Golden Nugget is the "nicest" all around, it's a solid "Four Star" hotel. The 4 Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, and The D are all pretty solid "Three Star" hotels IMO. Any of the above are good choices for staying directly on Fremont Street and within the "Fremont Street Experience". It really all depends on what you are looking for and what you would define as "best".

Three minute walk? It's usually a 5 hour stumble for me... so many tables... so many bars... so many V/P machines? Like... what if you have to stop and dance with Lady DJ Go-Go for a few songs?

Seriously... three minutes? I know a couple of 20-something hipsters that can do that.... but serious degenerate/drunken/gamblers like myself will take the time to "drink" in the ambiance that is down-town! :woot:
