    My Trip Report

Let me start out by saying this was possibly my worst gambling trip in decades and I have had some bad ones, especially lately.

Not only did I extend my Royal-less streak, I hit no decent 4oak on DDB either. It is now 3 years and 9 months since the last Royal. That’s 19 trips. One more chance in 2013, next month.

Now for the good, non-gaming news. Two brothers and one SIL all flew in on the same Friday night flight with us. MSS arranged the limo for the 5 of us, but he had to take me, brother & SIL to Four Queens first, so I could check in for them on a double booking, then take us and other brother to MSS to check in there. I couldn’t get him a comp, but did book the Emerald discounted rate at MSS. We all went our own ways on Friday.

During the day on Saturday, we wandered down to 4Q to check with our bartender friend to make sure we’d be able to see & hear the Packer game on Sunday. It was not on local TV and MSS only has basic cable. She is a HUGE Bears fan and since they were the 10 AM game-no problem, as soon as the Bears are over, the Pack will be on with audio.

We played some and my wife hit a progressive suited Royal, for $1,253! Yea! :banana:She held 4 and actually caught the 5th one. That just seems to happen so rarely.

Saturday night we all had dinner at Redwood. My wife and I have Gold Cards and the servers there always manage to massage the bill for maximum value when we are treating. So, a bill a little north of $400, cost me ~$100, plus tip. We are fans of this place.

Sunday was my birthday and my wife said whatever I wanted to do. I choose 4Q for pizza and Packers. Who could predict a 2+ hour delay in the Bears game. We never got to hear the Packer game, just see it. The pizza was excellent!

My host is off on Mondays and we did an audible and decided the four of us would go to Second Street Grill for dinner. I went to see Gloria, the host on duty and asked her to make reservations for us. About 2 hours later she calls my cell and asked if I wanted a $100 comp for my guests? Well SURE! My host will make reservations but never volunteers an additional comp. I’m puzzled because this is the second time this has happened and it was also different host the first time.

Since I made a sizeable donation to the Boyd group this trip, we went a little wild on food. Apps for everyone, one filet and two ribeyes and king crab legs. Oh yea, two bottles of wine & deserts all the way around. We rank Redwood and Second Street as equals, but it slipped for my wife. She was looking forward to the whole snapper and it was gone from the menu. It was an entire fish, head to tail. Board member Hoyaheel got my wife hooked on that.

    Now just some miscellaneous notes:
Part of my double booking at 4Q included a slot tourney on Saturday and then an auction on Sunday using the points you earned on Saturday. Registration was from 8-9:30 AM on Saturday and included a continental breakfast. I got there at 8 AM and the only way to get to registration was a single car elevator. For those of you familiar with 4Q, the line stretched for the elevators in the middle of the casino, almost out to Fremont St. A very big turnoff for me and I was ready to bail out and who shows up but VMB member Outsider.

Our last trip to Seattle he was kind enough to spend an entire day chauffeuring us around the city showing us sights we would never have seen on our own. So I decide to stay and go through the process. Finally get registered at 8:45 and am told my time is 10:15. I had a donut and coffee with Outsider, but in the end, I left with my registration prize of a one size fits all polyester robe. Another gift for Jose the bartender. I’m waiting to hear back from Outsider to see how he did.

Speaking of board members…I met Mike from Pensacola, Buddha & JDS979. For the couple that looked for me on Monday, sorry I missed you, we were at the Cal but the bartender mentioned someone was looking for us. Always great to meet board members in person!

I know there are Slotzilla haters on the board, but I thought they really decorated the launch tower nicely. I was surprised to see there are two levels and 8 lines total. The lower goes two blocks and ends up between 4Q and The Fremont. The higher one goes 4 blocks, down to LVC. No prices posted.

The Bier Garden they are building at the Plaza does not look any different than it did last month. I saw no progress in construction.

We visited the Grand and as reported the bar paytables are terrible on quarters.
    DDB 7/5
    Bonus 6/5
    DB 9/6
    TDB 9/5
We each signed up for their player’s card and each got $3 in free play. Top prize is $1,000 in theory.
Beautiful place but it is not going to be regular downtown visitors who end up there. We were there at 10 AM and it was deserted.

Unlike our trip in Oct, my wife could not get the free LV wifi anywhere on the MSS property. Last trip she got it on the 3rd floor outdoor balcony and even at the front door by the valet. She got it OK up and down Fremont St, but not at MSS.

A nice trip family-wise, but I'm feeling like such a loser.

Holy shit...Any chance her Royal on Saturday at 4Q was at Chicago brewing bartops early afternoon with maybe the auburn/georgia game on the tv over the bar??

Yes, 3rd machine upstairs at CBC and they printed the W2G at 1:39 PM. Too bad we didn't know you were there.

Sunday it was easy to pick us out, we had matching Aaron Rodgers jerseys on.:poke:

EDIT, I mentioned your post to my wife and she mentioned there was a younger couple sitting behind us at a hightop. That you?

-This is unbeliavable. I was actually on her right and my friend was the next seat over. We had been there for over an hour drinking, playing vp and eating pizza(I think at this time we still had our pie between us and our plates on the bar). I remember that seat on my left been beening open for about 20 mins. Then a women sat down and literally hit the Royal in what seemed to me her first spin. We where a few beers in and I hope I did not saw anything bad. I do remember pointing out her win to my friend then saying a few times that I was going to hit the Royal that was over 2k. Where you with her at that time??

    What a small world.

WOW I actually got to play with Joe and his lovely wife on this trip!! Maybe I was her lucky charm as her only royal occurred playing with me. HA.

Not sure if you are reading mine and BJ combined trip report but I had to skip over sat due to a lack of time. I will have to go back and update this key missing win by a VMB member.

Next time I will have to formally introduce myself.

Damn Joe. You have not had any (gambling) luck this year. :grrr: Sorry man, that does suck. Sounds like you had a good trip with the family, though.

And at least your wife still knows how to win! :poke:

Thanks for the report and pics of DG (or is it DTG?). Good stuff.

Congrats to your wife! Sorry you've been in a royal drought -- hope that ends for you next trip.

    Belated Happy Birthday to you!

Sorry to hear no Royals for this trip. Things are bound to swing around. Maybe next trip?

Thanks for the trip report and pictures of the DTG. Seems like the DTG is targeting a different crowd than the ones that used to pack the Lady Luck. I was hoping otherwise...

I guess that ginger infused whole snapper from 2nd St. Grille is history. Had it once and couldn't eat it all. I tried, lol! I still plan to visit 2nd St Grille. I liked it there the first time. Redwood is my favorite place for casual fine dining.

Congrats to your wife on her win. I'm sure next time it will be you.

Happy Belated Birthday! Birthdays in Vegas are the best!:drunk::thumbsup:

Funny how often how VMB regs gamble closeby on trips. It likely happened between sco and I in May at Monte Carlo. But we made the effort to meet up on my next trip since we were still both there. :)

Sorry you got shutout again for the royal Joe. :( Move your wife up to dollars? :evillaugh

Thanks for another fine report and sorry about the continued VP losses.

Nice pic of the progressive Royal hit. It's pay tables like those that make me think I should be playing more downtown or off-strip.

    Joe,
Sorry you had such lousy luck. As far as not being able to hear the Packer game, as you now know, for the third consecutive week, you didn't miss anything.

    Good luck next month.

That's so funny how bighead & Joe were right next to each other and didn't know it! Maybe whenever a board member is in Vegas, they should randomly shout out "VMB!" every half-hour or so, just to see if anyone happens to be in the vicinity!
