For me, I work at a job that is dictated by the clock (Engineer for a radio station). Everything is in literal minutes, 10 minute segment, 90 second break, 3 minute commercial.

Everything is so ridged that I need to be in a place where time doesn't matter. As weird as it may sound, Vegas is kind of the most natural place you can be. Anything you want to do, you can do at virtually any time of day. I feel so free.

My GF live in the Monterey Bay Area, about an hour south of SF, so while it is an easy flight, we really enjoy the drive. We usually pick up a friend or two in LA then head up. The anticipation of seeing the Strip as you come up I15 is second to nothing!

I know what you mean – my first job was as an engineer at a TV station. As for Vegas, it's great being in a place where you can pretty much do what you want when you want to do it. Of course, that's true at most gambling destinations, but it's still a good one!

I feed off the energy that envelopes the town... I live in Nevada and it's not the same up north. Most of my trips to LV are for work, but the flight in (even from Reno) is still exciting. The way people seem to be so "up" for their visit always makes me smile. Since I mostly travel solo, I'm often asked to take a picture of groups of people and they're ALWAYS so fired-up for all that they've got planned. Happy people make me happy!

My first trip to Vegas was on our honeymoon in 1980, and wait.....he's the scary part.....stayed at Circus Circus in a room with a round bed, tiger striped bedspread, and mirrored ceilings.

As soon as I took in the strip sights, I was transported to another life, a reincarnation of sorts. I felt like I belonged there and had come home. Really strange.

I love this adult playground for it's therapeutic effect. You unwind, de-stress, and do spur of the moment fun things. Nothing by the clock like Mattwall describes, just do as you please. You get to see entertainment that otherwise you may never have access to. My first show was Johnny Carson at the Sahara. Oh the memories you make and keep!

Well, I guess the purpose of a vacation is to get a break from the mundane daily routine.
I was also a first ticket at radio station back when directional stations had to have a first class licensee on duty. I am still a radiohaulic in recovery. I left in 1973 and was radion free til about 1992 when I did a shift for a year and a half. I am back in recovery (off the air, that is).

For Lv is a break in the long NH winter. I usually go the last week of February when the temps are like 65-70 and everyon in LV is frozen while I ride the bus in my short sleeve shirt! It's spring to me. I go to bed when I get tired, sleep til I wake, eat when I'm hungry! That leaves the rest of the time to do whatever it is that I feel like doing, if I feel like doing anything. It's fun for a week at least.

Nice to know there are some old broadcasterd around. Sure I a different business today.

    1. The clubs

    2. The gambling

    3. I can walk around with my drink.

    4. The sights and sounds

    5. The proximity of different casinos to each other (why I like center strip (Bellagio, PH, Citycenter, Cosmo) the best)

    6. The shows

Compare this to AC which is actually closer and the above reasons all together is why I'd rather be in Vegas.

In the DC area there will be one casino opening near my house but that's just....one casino. Another will be in Baltimore next year.

    Not the same.

It is our escape from reality. Where else can you do anything & everything 24 hours a day? The beach is nice but ends up getting boring after a couple of days since there are no slot machines in the sand....lol

    Welcome to the board!
Too many reasons on why I love Vegas but the lack of schedule is definitely one of them.

As a teacher I can have some time without a whole bunch of kids. Drink, gamble, smoke cigars come in anytime I want in a 24hr town. Most important it a cheap place to take vacation!

I believe one reason I still love Las Vegas after so many years is the great memories. Never a trip where we didn't thoroughly enjoy ourselves... whether we spent all our BR...or sent money orders home... our 25th anniversary playing in a blackjack tournament at Desert Inn... the fun shows, great dinners and wonderful times in our room!
    ---
It was the first place we ever got to have a real vacation...4 whole days... without our children. My mother-in-law came to our home and kept the children in school while we partied! The last place my husband wanted to go before he died! I've since been here with sister, children and even grown grandchildren. From the early 60's until today, it's still Viva Las Vegas for me!!!

I like it because I have no need to stick to a schedule. I can stay up as late as I want, I can drink a lot or a little, I can gamble a lot or a little, etc. I can do anything or nothing, and it really doesn't matter. The flexibility, to me, is awesome.

After 12 years you would figure I would be burnt out on Las Vegas. In some ways I am. But there is something about this town that I enjoy. I guess I enjoy it because it is SO different from florida.

Because I love to play games for real money, see a show or two and observe all of the varieties of people that humanity has to offer.

Sit at a bar, have a nice drink and contemplate that THIS is how Evolution turned out.

    Why I love Vegas.

In Vegas you can walk around with two beers in your hand at 7:30 AM. Instead of asking what's wrong with that guy? People wonder why I don't have three beers in my hand.
