    Hello all,

I've booked a surprise birthday trip for my wife for 4 nights/5 days in December to go see Andrea Bocelli. Using my TR card, and the rate calendar, all rights were Comp'd at the Flamingo for a Go Lux with Strip View.

I've been logging into my TR account to see if any offers come up for that time and what do you know, an offer for $150 FB and free 5 nights rolls in.

So, I call and ask if the can apply the offer code to my existing reservation. No luck, apparently I have to cancel my existing reservation, and create a new one. Here comes the tricky part. this offer is not good with my room category only for rooms category below (FAB Deluxe etc). I'm not a huge fan of these rooms and always book a Go Lux with view at the Flamingo, hence my dilemma, if me, would you:

    a) Keep the reservation the same and forget about the F& B credit
    b) cancel existing reservation, book using the offer code and try the $20 trick at check in

    TIA!

    b. odds are you will get the upgrade...and if not, will the upgrade cost more than $150?

If I were you, I would forget about the F&B. Because GO deluxe is an upgrade and then strip view is an additional upgrade. It could end up costing you.

But I am a worry wart. I like the comfort of knowing I have the room I want booked. Or at least, that I would be happy even if I did not receive the upgrade.

You have already used a "comp" by using the rate calendar and booking those rooms. Cancelling a comped reservation can have long term negative effects on future comps.

So forget the $150 FB and enjoy what you already have reserved for sure.

I've never heard of this before. I, and I'm sure many people, am constantly booking and cancelling offers - never heard it would have long-term negative effects before. Personally, I guess I haven't seen any indication of that.

OP - I would cancel and book the FAB room. If you could live without the view, they will mostly likely send you an e-mail upgrade offer about a week before to a GO room for $20 a night - which still means you are money ahead.

Or depending on the nights of the week you could probably upgrade at check-in.

Not sure about CET since I rarely need to cancel, but in Atlantic city at the borgata, I've booked 5 or 6 comped rooms over the last year and canceled all of them. The free room / promos keep rolling in even though my last trip was 1.5 years ago

Same here. In fact I cancelled a CET room a couple of years ago a week before scheduled stay for a better offer at another property. Two weeks later I get an email from CET thanking me for my stay. I don't think they check much.

Vegas in December is extremely slow. Chances of an upgrade are pretty high.

    Risk vs Reward...

Risk...you DONT get an upgrade and you are stuck in a room you dont like with no view

    Reward...$150 FB

is $30 a day worth a shitty room and no view?? not to me...especially if it is for your wifes Bday

Never heard of this, and have done it before. Not buying it.

Booking and not showing... that is another thing.
