I can't help but wondering what some casino marketing departments must be thinking when they send out room and/or tournament offers. While many arrive three or four months ahead of time (thank you Boyd/Coast), others show up with much less lead time.

Over the past few years we've received many offers with less than a month's notice, sometimes only a week or less! Our GA mailing address clearly indicates we're not locals. Do they really think we're going to plan a trip and buy airline tickets that quickly just so we can get a free room? From reading other posts, I can tell that most folks plan trips far earlier than we do. (We typically plan 2-4 weeks in advance.)

As examples: the last room offer I received from the Orleans is good for four months. That's a good thing. Then yesterday I received a snail mail offer from Rampart for a tournament entry and three free nights at the JW Marriott from Dec. 13-15. That's not so good. We just booked rooms (comped) and bought air a couple days ago for Dec.13-21. And while I can probably play "musical hotels" and add a few extra nights onto the eight already reserved, it would be far too costly to change air – at least on Delta. Not only do they charge ridiculous change fees, but the companion ticket we're using this time is a one-shot deal, so we'd essentially have to buy two new tickets outright and lose $200 on the one already purchased. Of course, that's out of the question.

I just hate when these offers arrive with less than a month's notice, especially when it's obvious that we live on the other side of the country. It's irritating. Thank you for allowing me to vent – I feel much better now. :D

I know what you mean. On September 10th, Hooters emailed an offer for 2 free room nights for September 10th-12th!

I feel the same way. I actually don't like the wait at all and wish comps were on a rolling basis (eg., within a couple weeks after play, you have new offers OR comps available for a year which constantly gets updated based on play). The comps 4 months out may be helpful if your dates fall within that range but if you are 2 days just outside of that range, waiting for the next comp can be quite the inconvenience. For some many reasons, I have stopped focusing my trips around comps and this happens to be one of the reasons. If a comp is available when I am ready to book, great! If not, I pay where the price is right.

I received an offer yesterday in the mail for a slot tournament at 4Q. 3 nights, but it is for Jan 17-19.

Hell, I already have Feb booked and I'm looking at April. That is just too short of a notice.

I never noticed or was impacted prior to SWA changing their award flights from 19,200 points is good for one flight anywhere we fly R/T but with some black-out dates. Now with you having to purchase on the current pricing with points per $, I have to agree. I only get offers from Boyd so cannot comment on other offers from other properties, but I agree with you, they give you enough lead time (in most cases) to make plans when your calendar is pretty open and the dates are distant enough to still remain reasonable.

I just had a bunch of play at MGM last week. Any idea as to when I will see MLife offers?

M's offers often arrive after they are over. We just call if we're thinking of staying there. None of them

Other casinos' mail is slow to Canada too.

    TG for online offers.

Maybe February. No, I'm not kidding. If the play was substantial, just call up a host and they will book you back in tomorrow at the level your play warranted.
