I've never been, but I believe there's a high-end used bookstore in Palazzo where you can buy signed Hemingways for $20,000, that kind of thing. Might be fun to look at, anyway. Otherwise, probably not.

Glad to see that the OP still has a sense of humor about Las Vegas.

Many of the casino gift shops have books such as "how to win at craps", or "slots for beginners".

If you are looking for real books in Vegas, then you shouldn't be in Vegas.

Either way its a vacation so do as you please. Not sure about the strip but check The Boulevard Mall, which would need a short 5-10min taxi ride.

I'm racking my brain trying to remember if the nicer hotel gift shops (Bellagio, etc.) have at least a selection of current best sellers. People might want to read by the pool, or chill out on their Cosmo terrace with a book for a little while.

As a person who loves books and teaches literature, the utter lack of bookstores in LV is one reason why, for me, it's a wonderful place to visit but...

Of course there's book stores on the strip and the best seller is "Hookers, Blow, and Quads" by beeejay.

Bauman Rare Books in Palazzo is a great place to just browse or purchase. Went there in July as I am a book/history geek plus my cousin works for them in Philadelphia. Tons of 1st editions and incredibly old pieces dating back as far as mid 1700's.

    Here's the link:

Assouline is a fashion, travel, art bookstore. Never been there but it is on the south end of the strip last I heard.

    Hope this helps

I remember one in Crystals but it was mostly high end coffe table books about fashion/design, best place for regular books is probably the airport

Some stuff you just cant find on the strip last year i was looking for a cd that was released while i was in town and i couldnt find a single place selling them

Unfortunately brick and mortar book and music stores are going the way of the Dodo bird, Lounge Act and the Las Vegas Showgirl. There is nothing on the actual Strip itself, not even in Town Square (I checked to see if there was anything and nothing came up).

I prefer the feel of an actual book in my hands, but in a pinch you could always download the free Kindle app to your smartphone, ipad or laptop and get whatever book you are interested in reading instantly.

The one in Crystals was Assouline, and it was fantastic, but I'm reasonably sure it's since closed (or at least, I thought I read that not too long ago). I remember the one in Mandalay Bay, too... can't think of any normal bookstores that still exist on the Strip, to be honest.

    Bookstores on the Strip

Baumann's is great...wonderful books to see (some aren't that expensive!), the staff is friendly -- and WILL let you handle even the high-end books! They probably are desperate to have people come in who aren't addicted to the shoeshoejewelryshoeclothingjewelry shopping experience.

Bookstores are a dying breed in Las Vegas (probably everywhere)...I used to be able to spend several days going to all the non-Borders/non-B&N places, alon with all the music/videostores. There are some cool bookstores throughout town if you have a vehicle (driving, unfortunately, is pretty much a given: http://lasvegasantiquarianbooks.com/

Fashion Show Mall used to have a book store. I know because I used to stop by there to get Vegas-related books most trips but sadly they closed it a couple of years ago. Mandalay Bay had a small one but that too closed a while back. You want books I guess you go off strip.
