Planet Hollywood: Stolen Items & Negative Experience

This is more of an FYI than anything.

I hosted a conference at Planet Hollywood back in September. All and all our group had a good time. However, we had issues w/ theft during the event. Here are the occurrences:

1) Stolen Prescription Sunglasses - Taken from a Guestroom

2) Stolen Laptop - Taken from a Guestroom

3) Stolen Conference Room Projector - Taken from a Conference Room

Each of these individual issues happened to 3 different individuals (one of them me) that work for my company, who spent $50K+ on guest rooms, catering, dining, etc., at the Planet Hollywood. Given that I'm already been solicited for my business again next year for this annual conference, I expected at least one positive outcome to the 3 claims above. However, to my surprise, the Hotel claimed no fault on any of the claims, and they were all rejected.

For 1 & 2, they put the responsibility of the theft on the individual offering any reasoning to why they made the decision. For 3, the only people who could have actually taken it were hotel employees or their contracted company responsible for A/V. However, they also denied the claim. Also, it took a minimum of 1 month for them to even reply back to my claims.

My advice to anyone staying at the PH : Make sure, you properly secure your items in your room and make sure your room door fully locks each time you leave the room.

I have held this conference 6 consecutive years in Las Vegas (Paris, Mirage, TI, PH, NYNY), and I have never had anything stolen from our group before. I go out to bid for my 2014 Conference in early December, and I WON'T be requesting a RFP from any Caesars property.

 

That really stinks. And your advice about securing your belongings is sage no matter where you are staying. But if this happened two months ago, why mention it now?

 

I feel your pain. Similar thing happened to my family last February. We didn't book anywhere near the rooms as you and the stuff stolen from my room was nowhere near the dollar value as yours but it did happen to us as well.

We had booked 5 different rooms. My room was the only room ready since it was set up through my host and we checked in around 9am. We had the bell man bring up everyone's luggage to my room, tipped him and discussed where to eat lunch until the phone call came that everyone else's rooms were ready. I was the last one out of the room and as I always do, I checked the door to make sure it was securely locked. Then all of us went down to eat at Earl of Sandwich and gambled for a bit (maybe an hour and a half) until the call came that rooms were ready.

When we got to my room it was obvious that the bags had been ransacked. I didn't even unzip my suitcase before leaving but my suitcase was opened and on the bed and a few items had been thrown on the floor. My nephew's bag was completely taken, one sister's jacket and another sister's wireless router for her internet. Not high dollar, nonetheless, but still stolen property. Security came up and made a report. I had to ask to change rooms as I no longer felt safe in the one that was robbed.

Fast forward to at least a month later, their report stated that my door had been left open for over an hour so we were at fault. I tried telling them that their report was completely untrue as I personally made sure the door was locked behind me. Unfortunately this was all to no avail.

I was always a big fan of Planet Hollywood up until this happened. Very sad to no longer call PH my home away from home.

 

He mentioned that it took at least one month for them to reply. Better for the poster to let things play out instead of coming on here the day after and laying blame.

 

This so clearly doesn't pass the BS test. So for this to happen, a hotel room thief would just randomly have to know or check that you left your door slightly open within this 1 1/2 hour window. I'm sure it was just luck of the draw!

 

I figured this was how they cover their butts on liability.

 

I don't really understand this story. There's a zillion cameras in casinos.
Couldn't security simply looked at the footage to see who went into the room?

I once had a laptop stolen off a luggage cart in a casino in New Orleans and they were able to find the point on the tape where it happened and watch the thief as he moved through the casino.

 

casinos yes but the hallways do not have cameras in most hotels.

 

We were told there were no cameras that can show who enters and exits the rooms.

 

Hmm, I didn't realize that.

Maybe I should invest in one of those $20 keychain hidden cameras and leave it in the room....

I have never had much faith in those in room safes. You figure if an employee is going to be brazen enough to rob a room, they are certainly going to find out the secret unlock code for the safes.

 

Probably BS since the poster knew he had closed his room, but this does happen with regularity. There are groups of thieves out there who simply walk up and down vegas hotel hallways, checking to see if doors are completely shut. if they are not, the thieves walk right in and take whatever they can find of value. I think that even happened at PHo to one of the stars of Peepshow a few years back.

 

Hmmm....no cameras in hallways? That's news to me. And not very good news.

That sucks about all this trouble. That's awful. However, I am not sure if this is an exclusively CET thing or PH. They have no respect for your business though and that is just lame.

 

Probably BS? I always make sure the door is locked behind me. In my situation I had other people's luggage in my room as well. Why would you say it is probably BS?

You can walk down the hallways and see the cameras.

Here's a perfect example, they had video of OJ Simpson entering that hotel room at Palace Station when he robbed that guy of the stuff he considered "his" and subsequently went to jail

I know for a fact, because I have a tendency to look for them, that MGM, Paris, Bally's and Caesars all have cameras in the hallways

I don't know where this comes from. MSS has cameras everywhere on each floor. At the central elevators, also looking down both directions at the hallways. If a downtown casino has them, I'm sure the Strip places do also. They don't look like cameras, they are the glass globes you see mounted on the ceilings.

 

That's kinda what I had thought.

I will say that with my situation in New Orleans I had to make a TON of phone calls to get their security to look at the tape. It seemed to be a big effort for them and they would only be proving their own liability by doing so, so they aren't very motivated.

 

Relax. You're misunderstanding me. I'm agreeing that the hotel's response is probably BS since the poster says the door was closed.

 

I will admit that I don't look for them in the hallways. But there was an article posted here a couple months ago that said only a small percentage of vegas hotels place working security cameras in the hotel hallways.

Just curious, where are they at MGM? Those hallways are crazy long and I haven't seen the little darkened "bubbles" that usually house cameras in the casino. Where are the cameras in hotel hallways contained? I'm going to start looking for them in the future. Thanks

 

Two

One at beginning and one about half way down the hall.
They're not globe cameras and they appear to be non-moving static cameras. They're housed in a slit in a small looking ramp-like fixture that's easy to not notice.

Paris is similar, one at beginning of hallways, in circular area, then another about halfway down.

I doubt they're monitored, likely just taped and stored for reference for so many days, in the event someone dies or something. All things considered and the security of hotels with all the money walking the halls, it would be irresponsible to not have some kind of internal hotel video monitoring, otherwise the hallways could easily become easy targets for robberies
