List the things you have changed your mind about over time with regard to Vegas.

-I used to eat exclusively at buffets and now I rarely do. But I still enjoy them! Now I focus on a particular thing I want to eat.

-I visited the Venetian after a couple years of ignoring them due to the comp fiasco and I was happy I did!

-I always say I won't stay downtown but then (almost) each trip I stay downtown. :evillaugh

-I used to stay exclusively off-strip for the weekend to save money but now I must be in the center of it all on the strip for weekends. I consider myself spoiled now.

-I used to say no hotel changes until I started taking longer trips and then they only seemed natural.

I am sure my list could be much longer...

When I read your posts, I find much in common with my own experiences.

Probably the biggest one for me is that I've become spoiled. I want to stay in nicer hotels than I used to, so of course my costs have gone up. But I'm like you - I plan diligently to get the best prices I can, and I do change rooms every two or three days.

Staying off strip, I posted a kind of bitchy little thing about the RIO but after a few weeks home and some thought I really did like the place.

The only other thing is shows. We have never ever done a show comped or paid. The real issue for us is that thing where you have to be at some place at a certain time. I suppose if we could just go and buy a good ticket last minute it would be different, we just want to do what we want when we want while in Vegas.

Just one very important thing for me.

The slow but steady decline of the gambler's importance in the hotel/casinos eyes.

Everything else I expect, but doesn't mean I have to like it. Price increases of all forms of dining. Same with shows. Lack of headliners verses all of the Cirque shows. etc etc.

Never thought I'd see the day that the gambler would become the red headed step child in Vegas.

Buffets - I used to eat at almost exclusively when I first starting going to Vegas...now I won't eat at a buffet, I will only eat at restaurants that take reservations.

Venetian - Boycotted them because of the comps issue a few years back...changed my mind 2 years ago and tried them again....changed my mind again and now I have boycotted them once again...can't stand this place.

Total Rewards - 3 years ago used to be a TR exclusive customer...changed my mind 3 years ago when staying at the Flamingo and dropped over $15K and a host wouldn't even come out and talk to me....screw TR...I'm an Mlife player now and couldn't be happier.

Taxis - Used to take a taxi from the airport, after being long hauled, now I take a limo, which is "free" as my hotel now picks me up.

Beggars - I used to walk by and ignore them, now I take rolls of quarters with me and when I'm out and about I drop a quarter or two to them when I walk by..I know it is a small gesture but makes me feel good.

Casino Visits - I used to try and hit every casino on my trips just to see what has changed since my last visit...I find myself now going to only those casinos that I like.

Downtown - Never liked downtown that much...but now it has grown on me so I visit every time I'm in Vegas.

Vegas - I used to think that one visit a year was enough...now I'm up to 5 visits a year.

I changed my mind about weekends in Vegas. My first trip (Dec. 09) was over a weekend. Thought it was a little too busy for me. Trips two through six were always during the week. Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Friday. My birthday trip in June changed my mind about the weekends. Friday & Saturday were a lot different for me in June vs 2009. My trip in six weeks is over a weekend. I get to Vegas on a Friday & leave on a Tuesday.

I like vegas on the weekends but I like to stay strip one trip and downtown the next.

on the fremont street visits I prefer to do weekdays as the weekends there are just a cluster***k with the mobs of people.

plenty busy enough on weeknights for me!

Used to feel very uncomfortable visiting Vegas alone. Now I think I like being alone better than with friends - all the usual reasons like having no schedule and doing what I want whenever I want.

Used to think that I needed to wander to a bunch of different resorts to get the most out of my visit. But now I am perfectly happy to stay on property if I don't feel like exploring.

Used to believe that I was right on the edge of getting that next big comp. Now I realize that the players clubs are designed to always need a little more and a little more, no matter how much you play.

Used to think I wanted to live or retire in Vegas. But I can honestly say I've never met anyone who lives there say they love it and would never leave. Seems like everyone working there would leave if they could.

What's the venetian comp fiasco? I've heard a few people refer to that.

Having a rental car. I used to hate them because to me they were a symbol of adult responsibilities and day to day life. I wanted total freedom. But, each of my past trips included a rental car. I've made peace with them now.

I used to think it was OK to drink till 3 a.m. and "carouse"... and still go to an 8 a.m. meeting. I've changed my mind and now know it is pure torture... going to the meeting that is. Actually, I think age changed my mind... I used have a remarkable "bounce-back" time, now I try to bounce and it's more of a thud!

LOL!! I laughed hard at this cause this describes me 100%!!:thumbsup:

One of the things I've changed my mind about was thinking going to Vegas once a year is enough.

    Not enough...:evillaugh:drunk:

Staying up so late I can't see straight. I have learned to go bed at a reasonable hour, I feel better.. and don't blow all my money playing on machines I don't really want to play on, because the ones I want to play on are busy. Instead when I wake up - I work out and have coffee and have my pick of any machine I want. It doesn't take me so long when I get home to recuperate. It could be my age (49), it could be we go more often.. so I don't try and cram all my vegas into 3 days.. Not sure.

"Spoiled" sums up a lot of it. We used to be satisfied with just having a bed for free. We'd hit the buffets, cash in all of the coupons CET would give out on registration for t-shirts, match play, free drinks and all that stuff. Now, anything less than V/P or Wynncore feels like slumming. Breakfast is at Morel's or room service instead of Hash House A Go Go. The case of beer carried to the room has been replaced by a bottle of Patron from the gift shop charged to the room. The only buffet we've eaten at in years has been Studio B, which is still one of the best values around.

Ditto the "once a year is plenty" booshwa. Now it's every 90 days or I get the bends!

I don't try to get by on 4 hours of sleep. One trip I was for basically 23 hours between travel and wanting to do everything the first day. I think I permanently screwed up my bio clock with that one.

I don't even bother with buffets most trips. We used to do one almost every day of a trip.

I've learned to spend more on food. I've learned that I can't eat crappy food or service and not have it spoil my vacation.

I thought downtown was fabulous but over time, I've realized it's really not for me. I will drop in for a few hours but I don't ever see myself spending a whole vacation there. Most of the hotels don't fit me and I just have little luck gambling down there.

I used to live off coupons but I don't really use them anymore. I still love a deal but coupons don't really provide good ones for me.

I never saw the point of a luxury room until I had one. I don't have to stay in one but the experience makes the real low end places seem even more inadequate.

I am no longer fascinated with Ellis Island. I will still go there but the mystique is gone.

I don't think that the strip is perfect. Even though the rooms are cheap, they get you everywhere else and don't even have the courtesy to do it politely and with a smile. I am just waiting for my perfect offstrip match.

First of all, a low level gambler cannot afford to lock into one hotel or chain because comp requirements and other things change constantly in Las Vegas. We're on our fourth casino "home" at the moment.

Also, games change, usually for the worse. I gave up playing Hold'em because the rake increased, more local rocks started to show up, and I no longer enjoyed sitting at a table long enough to learn the opponents. Player acceptance of 6:5 natural payouts lessened the availability of decent BJ games, although one can still find them. And VP pay tables have eroded to the point that entire casino corporations offer nothing playable for a dollar or less.

So I haven't changed my mind exactly, but I occasionally change what I do to try to get the best value.

    Pretty much just this:
Pressing or parlaying my blackjack bet on a "feeling".
In my youth, I used to do this quite frequently...even on neutral or poor counts.
Not anymore. Plenty of other 'independent-event' games for me to do that with. Never again with blackjack.

Prime at Bellagio used to be the mecca for me. I had the 40-oz. Porterhouse at SW this week and that put it over the top. The atmosphere at Prime is still the best, but as far as a meal, SW is the winner.

That room didn't matter, and it was just a place to sleep and shower. Anymore, the hotel and the room are very important.

That you had to eat at the buffet. Now, a trip to Vegas without a trip to a buffet is a good trip. My husband still loves a good buffet, usually for breakfast, but it has become the exception and not the norm. I don't go to Vegas to sleep at the Motel 6, so why would I go to eat the Golden Corral?

That Vegas was the Strip. We always venture off-strip now, and not to other casinos. Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, the museums, Mt. Charleston. There is so much more to the Valley than just gambling.

That only families went to the pool to keep the kids entertained. Granted, there are still always children at the pool, and we stay away from the day clubs, which honestly are usually filled with grown-up sized children, but I love a good pool. We now factor the pool into our decision process when we go during warm/hot months.
