Staying at the Plaza early in Dec. Any info on the place would be helpful. Good, bad or anything.

Their new Bier Garten might be open by then.

If you like to watch sports, the Plaza sports book has the best TVs. Plus beers are only $2/bottle at the nearby bar.

PopUp Pizza serves a tasty slice.

Other than betting on sports, I don't gamble at Plaza as I am not fond of their VP pay tables or their BlackJack rules.

Hash House a Go Go is a popular restaurant at the Plaza. I went there for dinner once and I did not care for my meal. I have heard better reviews of their breakfast. Expect insanely large portions that will largely go to waste.

I haven't stayed there, so I can't comment on the rooms. They do have a resort fee of $10/day.

One of the greatest things about the Plaza is that it's downtown. So if you don't like the Plaza, it's a short walk to many great casinos. :drunk:

Tina...I stayed there a couple of trips ago (March 2013). Room was very nice, bed was quite comfortable, the resort fee was waived with the comped room & the staff was friendly.
As for the blackjack rules Jim mentioned? Perhaps he didn't play it, but Plaza has one of only three low-limit 2-deck blackjack games in downtown that are 3:2 and allow DAS. For downtown, those are great rules.
I can't speak to their VP, but the other tables seemed about standard for downtown. In any event, MSS, Cal & Golden Gate (as well as Nugget, 4-Queens & Fremont) are each 3 minutes or less from Plaza's front door.

topcard: what is the limit on that game ? seems very interesting for my June trip (staying at plaza during EDC weekend to avoid the absurd strip rates)

We stayed there in July. It was wonderful. Our players card level from another casino was matched by there players club so if you do have a players card from another casino that's mid or high level go to the players club first and get their upgraded card before you check in, then show your upgraded card and you get free suite upgrade. We were on the 17th floor main tower overlooking Fremont. It was new and clean and comfortable.

The casino is quiet and the minimums are low. Drink service at the tables were better than at the machines.

Couldn't tell you about other services as we really didn't stay much in the hotel, with FSE right there, but I can tell you the Valet was terrible.

During the day, it was a $10 min...it went up to $25 at about 8PM.

If you count at all, this is a great game, for like the el cortez, it's a 2-deck shoe game, allowing you to see all other player cards as they come out.
For me, this makes it much easier to keep a good count, and if you're on 3rd base, it can also impact certain double-down and split situations.

LVC (right across the street) has the same game, only it stays at $10 min all of the time that it's open (which is spotty!).

When making a casino run downtown, I always walk through LVC to see if that table is open, and I always play it when it is...and keep on walking when it's closed!

We stayed there in August. The location is great. Rooms are a good size but toilet/tub area is tiny. The pool was not crowded (not that you'll be using it in December). Pop Up Pizza is good. We asked for the South Tower to avoid any noise issues. The bingo hall was packed when we walked by it.

I haven't stayed at the Plaza, but have played slots in there a lot.
Last week I waited 25 minutes for my drink to come, even though I was the only one playing in that area. This has happened a few times now.
The music played in the casino is pretty good (rock soundtrack).
I do like the selection of food places in there, and have heard the rooms are quite nice.

    Thanks to all

Hubby & I stayed at the Plaza the first time we went to Vegas about 15 years ago but gravitated to the strip after that. He passed away three years ago and daughter and I are going back mostly so she can experience Fremont street. Just wondered how things have changed at the Plaza. Sounds like there have been changes and thanks again for the info.

Wife and I were there two weeks ago. Rooms are adequate we prefer the South tower as it is nearer the valet. Bathrooms have a seperate room? for toilet and tub/shower which is the smallest I have ever seen.
Oscars is a great place for a good meal. Casino is one of the few places where you can still go up to the players club and ask for a comp and get one. We were given $100 for Oscars, adequate for dinner for two.
They give you a coupon book at check in with 4 matchplays, and a few other coups.
Earn 100 pts and you get a free entry into their slot tournament, up to four entries per day. Top ten finishers are into money in the form of freeplay. I finished third two days in a row, good for $100 each day, my wife finished 5 one day which was good for$50 I think. We did fairly well playing their machines, seemed a bit looser than in previous years.
As stated Pop Up Pizza serves a very good slice of pie, and the coffee stand near the front desk serves a good cup of joe with comfortable chairs and couches to relax in while enjoying the coffeee and the people watching.

    Enjoy your trip!
