What once-beloved restaurants or buffets have changed for you in quality? Why did you used to like it and why don't you like it anymore?

Border Grill at Mandalay Bay. They got rid of my Negro Modelo short ribs with polenta. Those were amazing.

America at NYNY - I used to love going here but not anymore. They changed the menu by getting rid of a lot of specialty items and now it's just a run of the mill 24hr cafe. I'm kind of iffy on the Paris Buffet - it's OK but for some reason I remember a better variety of foods.

Ellis Island. We enjoyed that dinky little casino and loved the steak special. We received horrible service and poor steaks the last 2 times we went there so we have really marked it off our list....

Margaritaville. We used to really enjoy having a margarita on the balcony and eating some nachos. They have raised drink prices to the point where it is ridiculous and upstairs seating is a major pain.

I'm pissed that Craftsteak has taken the warm frisée salad off the menu. That was one of my favorite dishes in Vegas. I actually looked forward to that salad as much as I did the cow.

The steak is still great, though.

Sugar Factory.. I used to always go for breakfast if I was staying near there, but they took off all the interesting sweet breakfasts, now the menu is boring. I'll still eat there, but they had a better selection before.

Every buffet. Most recently, Stack and Stripburger were highly disappointing.

For us it really is more a function of places we loved closing, be it Medici or Rosemary's or the original Andre's, etc.

Mirage Cravings Buffet - I went there every trip I made to Vegas and would rant and rave ho went great it was. Of course like everything else it has cut back and its just not there anymore. Hardly any bread, stale mini cupcakes and appears they switched the Prime Rib to Steamship round of beef.

I am thankful I have food and money to purchase it with but Mirage you have really went downhill. I never recommend it anymore.

Raffles Cafe in Mandalay Bay. We would always visit a few times when we needed a quick bite. Good food and portions.

They recently dramatically cut down their hours AND their menu. I think they closed in the afternoon and had a very limited menu.

We were pointed to the Red, White and Blue Cafe (or whatever it's called now), which I really didn't like. Food was nothing special and the atmosphere wasn't for me.

Why the heck would they end their 24 hour cafe, which always had people in it?

Replacing the Bay City Diner with Dupar's and closing their deli has basically turned me off staying at the Golden Gate. Now with their ridiculous resort fee added into the equation, I will definitely not be staying there.

I turned a lot of my friends onto The Flame. It became an every trip place for them, but many won't go back now that they removed the ribeye from their menu. Personally I'm good with Mr. Porterhouse, but my friends really like their ribeyes.

The same thing happened at the Luxor. Their Pyramid Cafe was 24 hour and always had people -- sometimes a long line, even late at night/middle of the night. It was a long tradition for us to fly into Vegas late on a Friday night after work and go straight to the Pyramid Cafe. It was so sad when we were there last year and there was literally hardly ANY place open to eat in December. It was depressing. It was our last day/night in Vegas, too, which made it worse. In the past, we could always count on the Pyramid Cafe and now it is apparently only open for breakfast and lunch. Bah.

I used to really enjoy the Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Paradise. Sadly it closed a couple years ago. I see that the owner, Marcel Taylor died this week... he was a neat guy and ran a GREAT restaurant.

Years ago Paris Buffet was a top choice for me, now, mehh....

Funny, since so much changes so fast in Vegas, and I see several places I have enjoyed in the past are now listed by some as disappointments, it encourages me to continue the trend of trying new places as often as possible. Guess Vegas just isn't the place to be a restaurant regular....

Pyramid Cafe - we used to make sure to eat there each trip but a few years back they went downhill fast and we haven't eaten there since.

Sadly, most of the places we used to eat have closed for one reason or another.

Upper Deck at the LVC was a late night fav for steak and eggs.
Benny's Bullpen at Binion's was also another favorite.
    Stage Deli at Caesar's Palace
There was a steakhouse at the Monte Carlo that the wife & I had a great steaks and a great experience. It has changed names a few times, not sure if it's even there anymore.

And my personal favorite, the coffee shop at The Frontier. Best $2.99 steak and egg special in town. :) God I miss that place.

As far as places that are currently open, The coffee shop at the Golden Nugget has been hit or miss. The buffet at Main Street Station is terrible compared to a few years ago, but the Triple 7 Brew Pub is still great. Tried the Orleans lunch buffet last trip and thought it was good for the price. Stopped going to the Bellagio buffet when the new Caesar's Buffet opened. Really enjoyed the Rio Seafood Buffet, will try that one again.

But the one place we go to on the first night in Vegas? The Peppermill. OMG. The omelettes are huge and amazing. :nworthy:
