    Lead up to the trip
Booked a flight out of Edmonton for 5:20 pm. Was meeting a buddy the next day in Las Vegas for some golfing during the week and he wanted to hit up the PBR final that weekend. I was planning on starting the road to degeneracy by playing some poker tourneys and maybe some vp. Week before the trip and I was contemplating moving up my flight as it looked like I wouldn't have much time to do things I wanted. Common sense won the bet and I left on my original flight time.

Quick flight! Was in the Vegas airport by 7:15. Must have had some awesome tail wind. No line up for cabs and was on the way to PH. Check in was slow. 2 people in front of line with 3 agents working. One person at the desk is asking every question possible. What is the room rate, what is a resort fee, is there a bed in the room, what temperature is the shower water....etc. The guy behind me in line was losing it...why the !?*% does this guy need to know everything? I found it very amusing. Finally made it to an agent after 15 mins. Got a nice 2 bedroom HH room on the 10th floor. A lot more space than the king room I had in March. Got supplies at Walgreens and headed out to start some gaming. Walked down the strip as I hadn't walked the strip in years. Made it to the Quad and hit a poker tourney at 11:30pm. Came in 8th out of 32 entries. Haven't played hold em in about 3 years so I'm a little rusty. Was done about 2 am. Worked my way down the strip again drinking and getting hit on by ladies of the night. Wow...they were out in full force this trip. Saw more than my last 8 trips combined!!

Please excuse the grammar mistakes. I typed that out on an iPad and was having a hell of a time trying to fix everything. Typing out everything all over again on my computer. Should be better...lol

    Day 2
Forgot to mention that I made it to bed around 5am. Up at 10:30am. Body is not liking the abuse on the first night in Vegas. Buddy is showing up at 8:15pm so I need to get some errands and gambling done before he arrives. Cab it to the North outlets to get some goodies for the kids. I'm back to the PH within 1 hour. Have a look at the time and looks like I can make the 2pm poker tourney at Monte Carlo. I decide against the free tram from Bellagio as the moving walkways were shutdown for the week at the Bellagio. I walk over cutting through Crystals. DEAD. Nobody shopping anywhere. I have no idea how this place stays running. Buy in to the tourney and it is a rebuy and top up tournament. (not sure on the top up terminolgy. Basically double your starting stack for 20$ more before a certain time). Bunch of locals playing and they are all re-buying when they get knocked out and topping up when they have the chance. I decided against topping up. I made it to 5th place this go around. Considerng I put in $40 to play and the one guy put in at least $80, I was feeling good. Drink service was terrible though. Took at least an hour before somebody actually came for orders. They came around quite regularly afterwards but the locals were giving the girl a hard time. I'm thinking Flamingo for the 6pm poker tourney. I start hoofing it. Well I make excellent time. I'm at the Flamingo by 5:15pm. Might as well go to the Quad for the 5:30pm tourney. I make it just in time. I make it to 6th this go around. I got knocked out after the guy sucks out a flush on the river card beating my A/K 2 pair. :grrr: Oh well...thats poker I guess. It's about 7:30pm so I make my way back to PH to wait on my buddy. His flight gets delayed so by the time he makes it to PH its almost 10PM and I'm all primed up with liquor again. He mentions there's a live band at Mandalay Bay and wants to walk over. I oblige. Had an awesome time. Cab it back to PH at 3ishAM. Need some sleep for the golfing tomorrow.

    Day 3
Up at 8:15AM. I hate being a morning person...especially in Vegas. Pick up a rental car at the PH desk. I read on the forums about where the parking garage was and the long trek to get there. She informs me of the "shortcut". It actually saves a lot of time IMO. I didn't try walking through the mall to get to the garage but I have been there before and the shortcut is definitely faster. We make our way way to the Paiute Golf Resort. We're almost 2 hours early for our 12:40 tee time. Was expecting a lot longer drive with worse traffic. Good learning experience for next time. They pair us up with 2 locals who helped us out with course management. It is HOT!!!!:faint: I was smart enough to bring 2 litres of water to the course but stupid enough to leave 1 of them in the car. Luckily there was water coolers placed on some of the holes so I made it out alive. We played the Sun mountain course. Excellent course. The other 2 were still undergoing repairs after flood damage. On the way back, buddy mention he wants to hit up South Point to buy some liquor. I oblige so we head south. First time at the South Point. Looks nice. Not sure how Lee's Liquor compares with South Point but $23 for a 60 oz of Spiced Rum is awesome. Same bottle at home is just over $60. We head back to PH and eventually we make it to MGM Grand. I am really starting to power out. Golfing in the hot Nevada sun really wore me out. I called it quits about 1AM and hit the sack.

    Day 4
Up at 8:30AM. I feel alive and refreshed. We had decided to wing it for a golf course today. Now my buddy is a little tight with his wallet. I tell him lets hit up Bears Best or something similar. Hell I'm up for Shadow Creek! I'm by no means a excellent golfer but I don't mind paying $$$ to golf on a once in a lifetime course. $120 max he say's :rolleyes2: So we get a tee time at Stallion Mountain. I wouldn't recommend it. If you spray the golf ball there is houses everywhere. Scenery wasn't that great. Wouldn't play on it again. Chalk that one up to not pre planning. The course is right beside Sam's Town and I really want to stop by to have a look and throw some money around. The round takes longer than expected and we want to beat the rush hour traffic as it was Friday night. Absolute gridlock on Koval and on Harmon. Takes me about 45 minutes from Flamingo and Koval to the PH parking lot. Wash up then head out for the night. We make it out to Mandalay Bay again and proceed to have a good time. Buddy taps out around 1AM. :drunk: I'm raring to go now. I hang out at PH and head over to Cosmo for a bit. I finally tap out at 4am.

Reminds me...on night 4 at the Mandalay Bay as we're making our way to the taxi stand. I meet this gorgeous girl. Absolute stunner. Perfect 10.

    "What you doing tonight?"

    Me..."Not sure. No plans yet."

10..."Want me to give you some ideas?"

    Me..."Maybe later"

I laugh and walk away. On the cab ride back to PH I'm thinking about how gorgeous this girl was. She had model looks and a even better body. She can have any guy she wanted but she chose to live the life she lives. Made me feel really bad for her. Anywho...hands down the hottest lady of the night (and one of the hottest women ever) I have ever seen. You should've seen some of the ones walking the strip on night 1. YIKES

OK...now I know why you are supposed to make notes so you remember before you post on the forums.

Also went to the Tim and Faith concert at the Venetian on Friday night. Cougar:peace: seated beside me starts chatting me up. I notice she has a rock on her finger the size of a pencil eraser. The thing is HUGE!! Lucky girl I suppose. I look away to talk to my buddy. I look back and start talking with the lady again. WTF?? Her ring has "accidently" slipped onto her other hand. :poke: LOL. Vegas... Concert was excellent if you're a country fan.

    Day 5
You guessed it...8:30 AM. I force myself to lay in bed until 9:30 AM. I need to hit up the It's Sugar shop in the Venetian for the daughter so we walk up the strip. I hate how the pornslappers are out in the daytime also. If I remember correctly on my first trip they didn't come out until night. Pick up the goodies at the shop and I convince my buddy to go to the Wynn. I learned about their awesome restrooms on my last trip and I read about them on somebody's trip report. I believe it was BeeJay. Awesome TP. The kind that doesn't fall apart in your hand :yuck: LOL

I give Steve some of my money. Nothing hitting so we make our way over to TI. I hit up video roulette for $20 and proceed to hit 17 3 times and some other hits. I cash out at $140. Catch the tram over to the Mirage. Hit up a dollar slot for $20. Hit for $150 and cash out. $290 with $40...I'm happy

Buddy got us tickets to the PBR performance tonight so we cab it to the Hard Rock. Showed him around the place, had a few beers then walked over to the T&M Center. PBR was ok if you're into that sort of thing. Ticket was free so I went. Walked back to the Hard Rock. Cab Line was CRAZY!!!! "Follow Me" I tell buddy. Walk to the HRH side. Nobody. Jump in a cab to the PH. (Lesson learned when a cab dropped me off on the HRH side on one of my previous trips). Used that one also in March when I was there for one of the Def Leppard shows. I think buddy was impressed. I'm a Vegas veteran I tell him...LOL.

I start to playing the Mega Millions machines at the PH, Paris, and Ballys. I noticed them on the walk back in other casinos this afternoon. Alas, I am not a new millionaire otherwise I would still be there. I take it easy tonight as I fly out in the morning and I hate doing the hungover thing in airplane washrooms. This tall man is not built for airplane restrooms. I believe it's 3 AM when I get to bed.

8:10 AM this time. Pack up and head out for Terminal 3 at 9:30 AM. Flight leaves on time at 11:30 AM. Land in blowing snow and - 3 Celcius. Man...can't wait to go back to the place I love!!!! Trip 10 planning begins!!!

    Notes:

    - I usually don't walk this much. I haven't walked the strip in awhile and I obliged my buddy who was too cheap to spend money on cabs. He wouldn't take them even after I offered to pay. He finally started to take me up on the cabs towards the end of the week after he started to tire out.

    - I didn't include meals in my report. I didn't hit up anything special this time around. All chain restaurants and 24 hour places in the hotels was where we ate.

    - I'm not a big gambler as you can tell by the amounts I spent. I have never spent more than $40 gambling in Vegas. I made it my mission to actually gamble this go round and start the road to degeneracy. It worked. I regret not playing in more poker tourneys and hitting up some roulette tables. I plan on doing a lot more gambling on my next trips. I could have gambled at night I suppose but my buddy hasn't been to Vegas in 2 years and wanted to hit up some PBR after events. Besides...more reason to go back again :wink2:

    - 1st time golfing in Vegas and loved it. It does eat up a lot of time so that is why I didn't gamble as much as I wanted to. I also don't like being hungover on the golf course so I dialed it back on the drinks at night.

    - I plan on arriving to Vegas sooner and leaving Vegas later in the day next trip. Especially if I will be golfing that trip. This was my longest trip so far (5 nights and 4 full days)and I felt like I didn't do all that I wanted to do.

    - I obviously left out some details to protect the innocent and the not so innocent. :ssst:

Ha! The Club Cal-Neva in Reno advertises that it has beds in the room... perhaps he's a Reno regular and wanted to see if that same thing happened in Vegas, too.

Thanks for the report and congratulations on deciding to slide down into the path of degenerate gambler.... it's a fun ride!

Thanks for your report. You got a 2 bed or 2 bedroom Hollywood Hip room? We love PH and stay there every trip.

I thought it was a 2 queen Hollywood hip room. Reading the descriptions on the website makes me think twice now. It seemed a lot bigger than the rooms I have stayed in before at the PH. It did have the his and hers sinks in the bathroom but no carpeted floor in there. Almost seems like a hybrid of a HH room and a Resort room. It was on the 10th floor looking out towards Paris. Slight view of the fountains at Bellagio.

Thinking about the room has jogged my memory. Can't believe I forgot about this one.

So on night 3...the one where I called it quits about 1 am after the first day of golfing. I'm sleeping in my room when all of a sudden this siren goes off. In my sleepy drunken stupor I'm thinking "why in the fook did I set my alarm?" :confused2: I look at the alarm clock 2:30 am and its not the alarm clock. The evacuation alarm is going off. I lay there for a few seconds thinking false alarm. Then I remember the MGM Grand and Monte Carlo fires. Now I'm really worried. I get up, throw on some clothes and grab my passport out of the safe. I think might as well gamble while I'm waiting in the casino so I grab all my cash.

I make my way into the hallway and there is nobody out there. I start making my way to the elevators thinking, "I'm not supposed to use these in an emergency". I meet a PH employee in the hallway. False alarm, there is some flooding on this floor which set off the alarm.

Back to my room I meet a family and I tell them what is going on. They make their way back to their room. I hit the sack again.

Lesson for all of us...I did not see many people coming out of their rooms. Hopefully it was because they were still pumping money into the Vegas economy. If not, please don't assume every alarm is a false alarm. Many people have lost their lives for that very reason. I'm done preaching now.

The only alarm I have heard go off in Vegas was at Bally's. That was before I knew about the MGM Grand fire as well. Was one of the few to react to it as well. But it was 6pm, so I assume few rooms were currently occupied.

I try to get a low floor for this very reason. In case I have to do the stairs it won't be so many. I also take all fire alarms seriously.
