Will asking for an upgraded room affect comps at the end of my trip?

Usually e-mail the host and ask him to set up room and limo from the airport.
We tend to get the same Vista room at PH each time.
During the trip we charge as much as possible to the room.
At the end of the trip we contact our host and most if not all charges are removed.

    Change the scenario....

1 - Ask the host for an upgrade from Vista to Panoramic room. How much does this affect our comps?
When we check out at the end of the trip would we still get most of our charges comped or would that upgrade
    cut into our comps?

2 - Do the $20 trick and get upgraded to Panoramic room. When doing the $20 trick does that have any bearing on the comps given during a trip or is it based on the original room?

I would like to get the upgraded room but my wife would rather get the extra comps via the removal of charges at the end of the trip. Just not sure how much (if any) an upgrade would actually affect it.

If they host does it, it'll effect your level of available comps, as the room cost is factored.
If you score on the $20 trick, then that was a discretionary comp at the desk. There was no promise or guarantee, therefore it should not effect your comp level.

Ask/request/demand it, you're "charged" for it (it goes into the computer on your account)
Get it on the fly, by luck or discretionary, it is not on your account because the house did it, not the casino.

Remember, the hotel and the casino are really operated as two separate things...your comp room is charged to the casino/players club. If the casino upgrades you (host), it's charged to the host (your account)
If the house (hotel) upgrades you, that was their sole decision apart from the casino and therefore not charged to the casino (your account)

    Thanks.

Been busy, and finally have another trip scheduled. I usually return when I have a trip planned because I get in the mood and the LV thinking (OCD) starts.

I started a thread a while back about what may be exactly the same question, just worded differently. I was (am?) also confused about how, say, a $20 tip upgrade would impact comps on the back end, if at all. Although the response in this thread above makes intuitive sense to me, the consensus I received was that you would have to play off the value of the upgrade before receiving additional comps on the back end.

I'm not sure how to link to the thread I started. The URL is here: https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97591&referrerid=7871

or you could search on threads that I've started. I think it's the most recent one.

    Your link worked just fine.

A pretty way to do is, while in EDIT MODE is to click on the little icon that looks like a GLOBE and CHAIN LINK. (actually the World Wide Web and Link). You then PASTE the link into that pop up. Does the same thing as you did, only prettier.

Not going to back and pull back an old thread to argue, but if you are not a players club member, and you get an upgrade on the $20 trick, how is it charged to your account?
What if it's your honeymoon and you're a LV newbie? How do they charge your comps? You have none and are using none? What if you got your room on Expedia and got an upgrade, who's paying for that, the hotel or the casino?

If you get the upgrade based on your status or because you or your host requested it, it will be applied to your available comps.
If the desk gives it to you because of availability, $20 trick, honeymoon or "just because," it's not going to go onto your account.

Hotel and casino, as well as F&B are all three different businesses andeach charges the other for the perks and benefits shared between.

Like for example, do you think when you order that free drink while playing, it's not put into the computer? Of course it is, not under anyone's name, but just as "casino" and that is how F&B tracks their floor beverage service and then they charge those costs to the casino. So the "casino" pays "F&B" for the free drinks you get on the casino floor.

This is how you keep all the bookkeeping straight, by having one division charge another. It's same as if you're staying at Paris and charge a buffet at Rio....Rio F&B charges Paris F&B who charges Paris House (hotel) who then charges your room which is then taken off and paid for by Paris "casino" TR/Host

All of this is correct as you state it. No players club points/rewards credits/express comps/bankable comps of any kind are taken for room upgrades by the hotel front desk.

The OP is asking if the room type he is in will impact whether or not food and beverage will be picked up by a host on a discretionary basis at the end of his current trip.

In my experience, the answer to this is YES, the host will look at the room type you are actually in. You have to play off/play up to that level before discretionary comps will be applied to any food and beverage above and beyond what was promised on the way in. (This is why if you are RFB the front desk has to call the host about an upgrade, and the answer is usually no since the host has already booked you into the best room justified by your play.)

If you are not looking for discretionary comps at the end of the trip, none of this matters and you may feel free to push for whatever upgrade you can get by whatever means and it will not impact your comps in any way.

Here's a monkey wrench to the question...

If you're a CET Seven Stars or a Diamond III, you're supposed to get an "upgrade to best available room at check in"

ASPIRATION Level 3: 80,000 Tier Credits
Unlock an Annual Retreat to any Total Rewards destination with a $750 airfare credit, invitation to a NYE party, VIP round-trip airport transportation within 50 miles, Companion Card to share your priority service benefits with a friend, early check-in/late check-out, upgrade to best available room at check-in, as well as waived fees on check cashing and credit card advances.

Does that affect your level of discretionary since it is a perk of your status?

That certainly is a monkey wrench, I do not know the answer but as someone who just reached this Diamond level 3 I sure would like to. Unfortunately I do not expect much from the Diamond level 3 upgrade--maybe to the best room category but not to suites unless already booked into one. Will the check in clerk even be able to see that you are "diamond level 3?"

I do know that at CP the different towers have different "comp values" and again it matters at the end of the trip which one you actually stayed in, not which one you were booked into.

I would think so if you're using Diamond check in

But at the same time, it could be a load of crap and every time you check in, they'll tell you no upgrades are available and/or you're already in the highest room available

But I have no idea of your ADT and how many days/trips it took you to make Tier III, but if you are working with a host (and you should be), you should be getting some decent rooms and smaller suites.

Good question, I don't believe it does. Keep in mind your discretionary comp fund at CZR properties is only accessible (by a host) if you deplete your RC's. So if you are booked into a standard room, get upgraded at the desk, and cover all your meals and expenses with RC's...you'll never even get to the point where that question is factored in. If you are a player who needs to get a host to take off a little extra after RC's are factored in...there may be a little less left in there.

However, all of this is relatively moot because getting this auto-upgrade in Vegas is almost impossible. I'm Seven Stars and stay at CZR properties about 20 times a year, I'm always upgraded to suites at check-in...except in Vegas. At most I get put on a high floor in Vegas...but never into a Senators Suite...or the Rainman Suite.

I do use a national casino marketing host for CET stays, I am always in Augustus or Octavius at CP and usually a suite at other CET props outside of LV. This suits me just fine because at Caesars Palace it is possible to rack up a huge bill for food and beverage but at dumpy casinos in the hinterlands they don't have much in the way of food to comp anyway so I may as well take the best room they will give me.

Got a smallish suite at Paris and PH on my first (and last) stays at those props, would rather just stay in Augustus than in one of those. I have found at CP they are willing to put me in whatever tower I ask for, but never a suite. I don't expect anything different with the level III "upgrade".

Correct--I generally keep RCs at zero deliberately so that discretionary comps can be accessed. Good to have that data from a seven stars member, I will not expect anything in the way of suite upgrades at CP.

I have fallen in love with the NOBU Tower at Caesars

Stayed their few months back, and going to again at NYE

I think I posted video of the room in my last trip report

I did stay @ Nobu once, thought it was nice but the rooms are so much smaller I prefer Augustus/Octavius. Beds are better @ Nobu.

I like NOBU for the service, not the size.
I have had my share of suites where half the place goes untouched.

I like the 5-star service, the special room service menu that's not crazy priced, the special turn down service and more
