Here is my situation. I am going to Vegas with my wife for a friend of hers wedding in Nov. I have another friend who is turning 30 and going in April and wants me to go. My wife has made a deal with me that if I come back up money or even that I can go in April.

I have been throwing all kind of ideas around. I have not been able to figure out a plan.

    HELP ME!!!!!!

    Please!!!!

    • Gamble & win
    • Gamble & lose- tell wife you won
    • Don't gamble 1st trip- go wild on April trip
    • New wife :wink2:

I wouldn't have accepted that "deal." You should have told her that if you're going to her friends wedding that you will then be taking a trip with your friend.

Obviously relationships are about give and take, but both of these occasions are important so you should just say that you have to go on both (presuming money isn't the problem). It's a bit unfair to make you go to her friends wedding at the expense of your friend's 30th birthday.

I don't see the panic. You've got until April. Change the terms of your agreement to "if you can come up with $X without depriving the household."

Look at your personal spending and see where you can make adjustments. Just giving up coffee and/or lunch out during the workday (packing a thermos and bringing a lunch) would add up to some money. Maybe there's stuff hanging around you meant to sell or give away?

I'm not even in charge of our monthly bills and I can still skim the hell out of the grocery and misc. budget to come up with cash for Vegas. Open your mind Grasshopper.

I'm in the same situation (sorta)
Wife said I cannot gamble AT ALL between now (this contract was made mid September) and 12/26...if I want to have a $1000 bankroll boost for our December Vegas trip (and to make it worse, we have to go to Reno every two weeks to pickup $400 in bounceback!)
I would just play suuuuper tight on the wedding trip.
Perhaps low-roll, and go visit properties you've never been to? (off-strip, RedRock, M, etc)

While you're there on the wedding trip, play at low-limit games - those with a low HA, such as craps or blackjack.
Plenty of $5 blackjack out there with decent rules. Build slowly, but if you're doing ok, then up your bets as you gain wins. If you lose, it will be very slowly (most likely), so long as you stick with basic strategy.

In the meantime, start setting aside a certain amount from every paycheck for your April 'gambling fund'.
When you get back from the wedding trip, add any cash you have left to that fund.

The April Trip - Ways-to-sell-this-to-the wife:
    1. Stay in comped/free-offer rooms for the April trip.
    2. Use Frequent-flier miles for the April airfare.
    3. Promise you will limit your gambling to the funds you have available, whatever they happen to be.
    4. Tell her she gets half of your April trip's winnings to do with what she pleases, and that the other half will go back into the gambling fund for the next trip.

Well, this sort of thing works with my wife, anyway!
    Good luck!

    I see only two options.

    1) Don't gamble, come out even.
    2) Lie.

Any woman who gives a man an ultimatum like that, most likely knows the entire bankroll, so telling her you won when you actually lost is most likely not an option...

I'm a huge fan of the new wife idea, or perhaps if you are on that tight of a budget, you probably shouldn't be going twice anyway???

Tell her what most gamblers tell anyone who asks how they did on their trip to Vegas..................."Oh,.....I'm about even"

Frankly she should appreciate you wanting to be there for your friends birthday and not have any conditions.
    Just my opinion.

Change the deal to 'whatever we bring back with us from our first trip will be what I use in the second trip'. Then convince her she's going to have a fantastic trip, over budget, then play as tight/low roll as you can when you're there.

IMHO, I would gamble very little, if at all, on your November trip. Enjoy the sights and scout out what you want to do on your second trip. Good luck, hope you make the second trip.:peace::beer:

I laughed so much at the responses of both win4me and dfalk.

I just reached Medicare age and was single for many more years than I have been married. I can't conceive of my husband telling me I couldn't do something. Not only would he not think he had the authority to do so, but he knows better -- he always falls asleep before me.

So if your finances are in order (bills paid, 401K financed, etc.), make your reservation.

    This.

If both of us are working, have steady incomes and our finances are in order, we do what I want. Neither of us needs permission from each other.
